New headmaster Nick Seward was welcomed in September 2008, introducing a revised vision for the school whilst staying true to its roots as an all-ability, co-educational independent secondary school. Saturday school has been abolished, weekend activities for boarders have been seriously upgraded, two day houses have been opened, an academic society launched, a director of development appointed to enable ambitious refurbishment and new building projects, and school transport is being offered to day pupils.

Nick is delighted with progress - “The past twelve months has been a busy time, involving some significant readjustment. I applaud every member of the school community for their willingness to embrace change and for their contribution and New Reception support. I am doubly encouraged - not only has the school roll We are delighted to welcome our new 15 reception increased, we are also celebrating record GCSE results.” pupils this term. They are gently settling in to new routines and will be attending full time from November. Highlights this term will be a walk to Temple Guiting post office to learn about addresses and ‘where we live’. Another day we will look for Goldilocks and the three bears in the countryside surrounding our school and coming back to warm porridge!

Off to a Flying Start Our 2009-2010 school year is off to a flying start, with all the children settling into their new classes and our Reception children making new friends and getting accustomed to school routines. We’ve held our second series of class information meetings where parents come into the classroom and their child’s new teacher explains some of the class routines for homework, reading and other information relevant to their child’s school day. These have proved to be immensely popular with parents and we will continue to do them regularly throughout the year.

Clubs Our after-school clubs are now in full swing as well, many thanks to the staff and parents who take time out of their week to run these each week. Our current clubs include Multi- skills, Tag Rugby, Writing, Cross Country, Netball, and Football.

The responsibility for parking switched from the Police to local councils when it was decriminalised in November 2007. GCC is responsible for deciding where on-street parking is allowed and how it is controlled, district councils are responsible for enforcing these restrictions and managing off- street car parks. The introduction of Civil Parking Enforcement in Gloucestershire has allowed GCC to ensure the parking restrictions they have introduced, in consultation with local communities, are effective and fit for purpose, says the council's report. "By and large, motorists, residents and visitors have been positive about the improvements in traffic flow and accessibility", said Cllr Stan Waddington, Cabinet Member for Environment at GCC. "We have worked closely with local residents to tackle congestion and anti social parking. Some of the measures we have introduced have been successful and well received others less so, but we are determined to get it right. With requests for additional parking controls in residential areas and are looking at residents parking schemes". View the full report at www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/parking

22 Events in Blockley Village Hall October/November

Blockley Amateur Dramatic Company are holding an Open Evening on Monday 5 October, at 7:30pm in Little Village Hall. Drop in for some wine & nibbles - hear about all the many past productions and plans for the future. If you can (or aspire to) direct, act, sing, dance, play an instrument, create costumes or scenery, help with lighting or sound or other backstage stuff, do go along to find out more. Or just have a drink and chat with Company members.

On Monday 2 November, we again welcome the Loft Theatre Company from Leamington, with another Bill Wilkinson production. This time, it will be "The Weir" by Conor McPherson.

On a windy night in early spring, in a small pub on Ireland’s west coast, a pair of regulars take their evening pint and start swapping spooky stories to impress an attractive young woman, Valerie, recently arrived from Dublin. The simple visit to the local pub turns out to be an evening of funny and spell-binding stories, until the final tale, told by Valerie herself, takes a strange and unexpected twist....

The action for this production will take place in the body of the hall - so audience capacity will be notably reduced. If you want to be sure of your seat, book early! Tickets will be on sale early in October - or call 01386 700647 or 593386. Moreton Rangers, our local football Club needs your help. Since its formation with a few boys in 1997 it has grown to five junior teams and two adult teams in twelve years, and being awarded the FA Charter Mark as a Development Club , the only one in the North Cotswolds. The Changing Room facilities it took over were decrepit in 1997 and are out of date and past maintaining. We must build new ones now.

Because all the labour for the project, skilled and unskilled, is being given by club members and supporters, the cost has come down from £140,000 to £55,000. We are asking for everyone in Moreton to help us raise this money this year, so we can provide these new First Team lead the way facilities for the 80 Children and 45 Young men (increasing every Moreton Rangers first team have started their season in the year).
