AFFORDABLE CARE ACT ADVISOR EZEKIEL EMANUEL TO DISCUSS HEALTH CARE REFORM AT THE NATIONAL CONSTITUTION CENTER

Philadelphia, PA (February 6, 2014) – Ezekiel J. Emanuel, one of the principal architects of President Obama’s health care reform act and a leading bioethicist, visits the National Constitution Center to discuss his new book Reinventing American Health Care on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. Joined by National Constitution Center President and CEO Jeffrey Rosen, Dr. Emanuel will draw from his unique insider’s perspective of the complex American health care system to discuss why reform has troubled U.S. presidents like FDR, JFK, and Nixon for more than 100 years. He also will offer his predictions on how the Affordable Care Act will affect health care in the future and the likely areas where further reform will be necessary.

Ezekiel J. Emanuel is Vice Provost for Global Initiatives and Chair of the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Emanuel was the founding chair of the Department of at the National Institutes of Health. Until January 2011, Dr. Emanuel served as a Special Advisor on Health Policy to the Director of the Office of Management and Budget and National Economic Council. He is the author and editor of nine books on medical ethics and healthcare and frequently contributes to the op-ed page of . After completing , he received his M.Sc. from Oxford University in Biochemistry. He received his M.D. from and his Ph.D. in political philosophy from .
