Félix Matos Rodríguez QCRAnews Flash: named Queens College President Queens College Retirees Association

Annual Meeting The QCRA Annual Meeting was held in the Agora, Student Union on Friday, May 16, 2014. Queens College Interim President (and QCRA Member) Evangelos Gizis brought greetings. The speaker was Gisele Warshawsky (see page 2). The event was attended by over forty members and guests. Lunch was a Brazilian theme to match with the Year of Brazil at Queens College with lots of roasted vegetables, grilled chicken, and brownies and blondies for dessert. Four of the student scholarship winners (Nowbahar, Yu, Finer, and Weiser) were able to join us for lunch and spoke about their backgrounds and future plans. President Speidel reported that the Internal Revenue Service had reinstated our 501(c)(3) status as a charitable organization. The IRS Reviewer requested, and the QCRA Executive Committee endorsed, that the Constitution be amended to add the following as Section Xaa. “This organization is organized exclusively for charitable purpose within the meaning of section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code” The motion passed without dissent. It was also approved by 47 Proxy Votes. continued on page 2

Fall Meeting The Fall Meeting is scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2014.

The speaker will be Kevin Birth, Professor of Anthropology, who will speak on aspects of time.

All of us, at one point or another, have commented that time seems to go faster once we retired; that we never seem to have enough time to do all the things we’re involved with. Maybe there is a physical reality.
