International A non-U. S. Citizen/Permanent Resident, regardless of Race/Ethnicity

Hispanic / Latino/a A Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U. S. who self-identifies as being of Hispanic / Latino/a ethnicity, regardless of race. Hispanic / Latino/a Ethnicity is defined as being of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin.

African American / A non-Hispanic / Latino/a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U. S. who self-identifies exclusively as African- Black American, or Black, or having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa.

Native American / A non-Hispanic / Latino/a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U. S. who self-identifits exclusively as having Alaskan Native origins in any of the original peoples of North and South America (including Central America), and who maintains cultural identification through a tribal affiliation or community attachment.

Asian American / Asian American: a non-Hispanic / Latino/a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U. S. who self-identifies Pacific Islander exclusively as having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian subcontinent including, for example, Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands, Thailand, and Vietnam. Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander: a non-Hispanic / Latino/a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U. S. who self-identifies exclusively as having origins in any of the original peoples of Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, or other Pacific Islands.

White A non-Hispanic / Latino/a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U. S. who self-identifies exclusively as having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East or North Africa.

Two or More Races A non-Hispanic / Latino/a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U. S. who self identifies as belonging to at least two of the preceeding four groups.

Unknown / Other A Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U. S. for whom there is no additional information available

Notes: the process of categorizing individuals into Race/Ethnicity categories:

1) If an individual is a non-U. S. Citizen/Permanent Resident, regardless of Race/Ethnicity, then that individual is counted as International.

2) If an individual has self-identified as Hispanic / Latino/a, either exclusively or in addition to self-identifying as any of the races, then that individual is counted as Hispanic / Latino/a.

3) If an individual has self-identified exclusively as either African American/Black, or Native American/Alaskan Native, or Asian American/Pacific Islander, or White, then that individual is counted as that respective race.
