Prefontaine Classic Earns Top Ranking

The Oregon Track Club’s once again ranked among the top invitational meets in the world following the 2019 IAAF season.

The 2019 Pre Classic was held at Stanford University, and the move did not hurt performances, as the quality of the Pre results ranked No. 2 out of the 14 Diamond League meets, after only the Zurich finals.

Seven out of the last eight years the Pre has ranked either No.1 or No. 2 in results. The combination of quality of results and quality of the participants earned Eugene No. 3 overall, with only the two finals in Zurich and placing ahead of the Pre Classic. The Pre was only 24 points behind the second place Brussels meet.

Now it is on to 2020 when the Pre Classic will be held in the new Hayward Field on June 6-7.

By Kevin Marbury, OTC President

Happy October! Bouncing back!

Many would say that these are challenging times we find ourselves in. How we respond to those challenges will often dictate what happens next. It also impacts us on an individual level and how we take on the next challenge. In my real job this year, I’ve decided that the people that work with me on my team should focus on resiliency. Part of the reason I am insisting that we focus on resiliency is because I believe it is important to take care of your team. I subscribe to the belief that a team is only as strong as its weakest link. At the same time, I also believe that, depending on the circumstances, that the weakest link is not always the same link Kevin Marbury or person.

Oregon Track Club MASTERS Denise Thomas, Born to Move by Joey Blum

In her work, her soul, and the devoted fire with which she lives, Denise Thomas is all about MOVEMENT!

Her movement resume includes her days as an athlete, professional dancer, dance teacher, aerobics instructor, fitness trainer, track coach, and today a film producer and community advocate for the benefits of movement.

Part of Thomas family lore is how Denise was dancing even before she was born and switched her position in her Denise Thomas mother’s womb from normal to breech birth. Another family tale confirms that she was hell-bent on movement with an account of her scaling the confines of her crib, scooting successfully down a full flight of stairs, and upon arrival at the bottom took her first steps! The future dancer had mastered “tap” and “modern” technique at an early age.
