The Winning Women Leadership Conference is an early career development program for high-potential female leaders enrolled in the VE program. Students will have the opportunity to engage with and learn from inspiring women business professionals about the skills needed to develop successful careers. Please join us for an exciting two-part program: Part I. A panel of dynamic female business leaders will share their experience, guidance and helpful tips on building a personal brand, establishing a professional presence and developing effective communication skills. Part II. Business leaders will guide students through themed activities on leadership, teamwork, and presentation skills. Rebecca Distler Global Health Programs Lead, ID2020 Rebecca is Global Health Programs Lead at ID2020, where she provides strategic guidance on partnerships, programs, and operations related to digital ID in health. Prior to joining ID2020, Rebecca was Director of Global Health Initiatives at Element, an AI digital identity company. She has spent her career working across Africa and Asia to build programs and partnerships that scale innovation in global health – including work with the World Health Organization, Clinton Global Initiative, Gavi the Vaccine Alliance, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, among others. Rebecca holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the Yale School of Public Health and a BA in Political Science from . She is a Global Shaper (currently serving as Curator of the New York Hub) and a Forbes Ignite Impact Fellow.

Alexandra van Arkel Investment Director, CVC Growth Partners Alexandra is an Investment Director at CVC Growth Partners in New York City. At CVC, she focuses on high growth B2B software and technology- enabled services businesses. Prior to joining CVC Growth, Alexandra worked at NBCUniversal in strategy and finance and at Barclays in investment banking. She received a BA in History from Yale University and an MBA from . Alexandra is extremely passionate about supporting the next generation of female entrepreneurs, investors and business leaders. Alexandra is a volunteer mentor and advisor for VE students at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis High School and in October 2016, she founded Winning Women with her colleagues from NBCUniversal.

Ritu Banga, Panelist & Mentor Co-Founder, Zoomdojo Ritu Banga is a private investor and co-founder of Zoomdojo LLC, a social enterprise and career success initiative for youth. She serves on the Advisory Boards of SmartPurse, a financial education start-up for women; of SAYA! (South Asian Youth Action); of Virtual Enterprises International (VEI), a Dept. of Education-affiliated non-profit; and of the South Asia Business Association, Columbia University. Ritu has been a mentor at VEI’s Winning Women Leadership Conference for several years. She has been a guest speaker at Cornell University in the “Women, Leadership and Entrepreneurship” seminar. She has also been a speaker at conferences at Columbia University, NYU, Pace University, Vanderbilt University, and at the Univ. of Toronto’s Rottman School of Management.

Gretchen Bergstresser, Panelist Partner and Global Head of Performing Credit, CVC Credit Partners Gretchen co-founded the U.S. Credit business of CVC Credit Partners in 2005. Over her 33 years in the industry, she has also worked at Eaton Vance, Bank of Boston, ING and other financial institutions. She earned an M.B.A. from Boston University, an M.S. in Chemistry from the Pennsylvania State University and a B.S. from St. Lawrence University. In January 2016, Gretchen was elected to the board of directors for the Loan Syndications and Trading Association.

Roberta Esther, Mentor Partner, Young Ambitious One, LLC Roberta is an experienced Finance Professional, Career Development Advisor, and Speaker. She is a Partner at Young Ambitious One, LLC (YAO), a platform and community dedicated to empowering students, professionals, and organizations for success in business, technology, and entrepreneurship. YAO delivers on its mission through interactive professional and career development programs, innovative technical learning courses, and engaging networking events. Roberta has worked for leading global financial services institutions as a Senior Vice President in Finance, specializing in strategic initiatives and change management. She is a board member of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (NABA) NY Chapter – an organization she has been involved in since her sophomore year at Pace University.

Emily Fenger, Mentor Founder, Mindfully Home LLC For the last decade, Emily worked her way up in the nonprofit world – helping organize events to raise money for pediatric cancer, creating programs for seniors, leading advocacy groups, and partnering with Colorado school districts to help elementary-aged girls dive into wellness and mindfulness. Being inspired to help others, continuing to serve her community, and support the expansion of mental health awareness - Emily received training as a certified Meditation Teacher, Breath Coach, and an Integrative Wellness Practitioner. Emily now takes her trainings in these various modalities and helps guide clients to reconnect with their empowerment and nurture their one true home, themselves. Emily supports client’s journey to connect within, so they can connect without hesitation, limitation, and let go of false beliefs. Emily is also a Realtor with Keller Williams, bringing her alternative approach to a traditional career path.

Melissa Grappone, Panelist & Mentor VP of Marketing & Corporate Communications, American Portfolios A corporate officer and member of the senior management team at American Portfolios (AP), as a vice president, Melissa Grappone heads up the firm’s marketing and corporate communications area. With more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry employed with such firms as First Investors, Dean Witter Reynolds and First Data Resources, the last 20 have been spent working at AP in various operational, communications and marketing capacities. She holds her Series 6 and 63 securities licenses, received her Bachelor's degree in journalism and public relations from the University of South Carolina and an MBA in marketing from Hofstra University.

Ying Li, Mentor Director of Operations, Cambrian Biopharma Ying Li is a Director of Operations at Cambrian Biopharma, a distributed drug discovery company focused on the biology of aging and methods of extending healthy human longevity. Prior to Cambrian, Ying was a management consultant at Qral Group for 3 years, a boutique consultancy focused on rare & orphan diseases, where she advised clients on commercialization strategy and product launch planning. There, she led go-to-market strategy & operations for several rare neurology therapy launches. She holds a B.A. from McGill University in International Development Studies and Developmental Economics (focused on health outcomes). Nina Liew, Mentor Chief of Staff, Shared_Studios Nina has 5+ years of experience in strategy and operations, and has worked directly with CEOs, advised government in healthcare and education, and delivered grassroots projects and large-scale events locally and internationally. In 2017 she was selected to join the Global Shapers Community (an initiative of the World Economic Forum) and was a National Board Director and the Curator of the Melbourne Hub in 2018-19. She is currently based in New York as the Chief of Staff at Shared_Studios.

Joanne Lipman, Panelist Journalist/Author, CNBC Joanne Lipman has served as Editor-in-Chief at USA Today, USA Today Network, Conde Nast, and ’s Weekend Journal, leading those organizations to six Pulitzer Prizes. She is an on-air CNBC contributor and the inaugural Distinguished Journalism Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. She is also author of the bestseller, THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID: What Men and Women Need to Know About Working Together. Lipman began her career as a reporter for The Wall Street Journal, ultimately rising to deputy managing editor – the first woman to attain that post – and supervising coverage that won three Pulitzer Prizes. Rachel Macauley, Mentor Investment Associate, Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation Rachel works with the Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation team to identify and support innovative social entrepreneurs. Prior to joining DRK, Rachel served as Senior Program Officer with the OCP Group, a global fertilizer producer headquartered in Morocco. As an inaugural team member of the Group’s North American subsidiary, Rachel led corporate engagement initiatives with a focus on U.S.-Africa partnerships for agricultural development. Rachel previously served as a portfolio manager at John Snow, Inc., a public health research and consulting firm, where she managed programs to strengthen civil service capacity and health systems across Africa. Monica Paneque, Mentor Director, Huizenga College of Business, Nova Southeastern University Monica Paneque, M.B.A., is the Director of the Huizenga Business Innovation Academy, an academic and co-curricular scholarship program for future entrepreneurs and innovators. The Huizenga Academy program incorporates an entrepreneurial curriculum coupled with co-curricular activities, which result in the creation of and monetary investment into their business following graduation. In this role, she is responsible for the recruitment, selection and administration of the Academy program and works directly with the students throughout their academic careers.

Irma Parone, Mentor President & CEO, Parone Group Irma is a consultant, speaker, and international best-selling author. She works with executives and their teams, enhancing organizational effectiveness and high-value customer and employee loyalty. For the 15 years before forming Parone Group, Irma was the sr. Carol Anne Riddell, Panelist Host/Reporter, CUNY TV Carol Anne Riddell is the host and a contributing reporter for Arts in the City, a monthly magazine show focussed on arts and culture. The series is a centerpiece of original programming produced by professionally staffed independent television station CUNY TV, part of the City University of New York, available to 7.3 million households in the New York metropolitan area. In addition to Arts in the City, Riddell works on CUNY TV’s Science & U series; she also hosts and reports various specials at the station like Life in the Digital Age and Food Revolution. Riddell has garnered numerous awards, including three New York State Broadcasters Association Awards – for Outstanding Individual Program/Series Designed for Children, Outstanding Hard News Story, and Outstanding Public Affairs Programming. She also was part of the News 4 New York team honored with an Emmy® Award for the series What Matters.

Louise Sherman, Mentor VP - Resourcing Specialist, HSBC Louise Sherman is a Human Resource practitioner supporting the Recruitment and Onboarding (R&O) division of HSBC. In her current role she is the relationship manager HSBC’s Managed Service Program for contract workers and also oversees vendor management for all R&O related contracts. She has over 20 years of experience ranging from Generalist to Specialist roles. Louise is passionate about giving back to the community and supporting HSBC’s diversity initiatives. In 2016 she joined the African Heritage Employee Resource Group (AHERG) as Communications Lead. As a result of her efforts, she was nominated and received HSBC’s prestigious Culture Hero award in 2017. In 2019, Louise became the National Co-Chair of AHERG. Page 13 ABOUT VIRTUAL ENTERPRISES VE is an educational nonprofit that transforms students into business professionals by bringing the workplace into the classroom and preparing them for fulfilling, financially secure futures.

By starting a company and managing its day-to-day operations, students not only develop meaningful skills-based career experiences and an entrepreneurial mindset, they also identify career pathways that align with their interests, talents, and aspirations. Students are able to test drive potential careers and develop in-demand skills and competencies that post-secondary institutions and employers are seeking. The program engages students in their learning and prepares them with relevant, hands-on opportunities to develop, test, and apply academic, business, financial and entrepreneurial skills.

Since its inception in 1996, VE has served over 165,000 students. We currently support 16,500 students across 19 states each year. Our students are part of a global network spanning 40 countries and 7,500 student-run businesses.
