Additional Charges Approved Against Thirty Six Individuals Connected to an Organized Crime Group Operating in B.C.’s North

More charges have now been approved against several individuals involved in a 2015 Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia (CFSEU-BC) investigation into the alleged drug trafficking activities of a crime cell operating primarily out of B.C.’s north.

In July 2015, investigators with the CFSEU-BC’s North District Office began an investigation into street and mid-level drug traffickers operating in BC.’s Peace Region. That investigation is now before the courts and has resulted in the following charges, convictions and related sentences:

A total of 36 Accused persons had criminal charges against them approved by the Public Prosecution Service of (PPSC) A total of 120 Criminal Charges were approved and laid by PPSC 21 Accused have either been found guilty or pleaded guilty 6 Accused are still to be sentenced 5 Accused were either found not guilty or a stay of proceedings was entered on their charges by PPSC 6 Accused are awaiting trial or waiting for trial continuation Approximately 4300 days of jail time has been handed out to the 15 accused that have already received their sentence

The CFSEU BC North District investigators conducted a total of 5 search warrants during this lengthy investigation, seizing over $57,000 in cash and a quantity of illegal drugs. These drugs included, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, Percocet, GHB, and the deadly drug fentanyl. A number of firearms were also seized including a .22 caliber rifle, a loaded 12 gauge shot gun and an AR15 assault- style rifle.

Multiple Arrests Stemming from a Year Long CFSEU-BC Investigation in BC’s Peace Region

In July 2015, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of B.C.’s (CFSEU-BC) North District Office began an investigation in street and mid-level drug traffickers in B.C.’s Peace Region. That investigation has now resulted in the arrests of multiple individuals and the seizure of drugs and firearms.

As a result of the investigation, the CFSEU-BC’s North District Office seized cocaine, fentanyl, percocets, and an AR15 semi-automatic rifle.

Five search warrants resulted in the seizure of more cocaine and fentanyl, as well as crystal methamphetamine, GHB, amphetamine, cash, and two additional firearms.

Numerous traffic stops also resulted in the seizure of cocaine, fentanyl, and cash.

In total the seizures yielded:

• One .22 calibre rifle • One loaded 12 gauge shotgun • One AR15 semi-automatic rifle • 74 ounces of Cocaine • Approximately 700 fentanyl Pills/Capsules • 3.5 grams of crystal methamphetamine • 17.4 grams of an amphetamine • Two percocets • 1.75 litres of liquid GHB • Approximately $70,000.00

Facing charges as a result of this investigation are 43 individuals. Between December 5th, 2015 and May 24th, 2016, the CFSEU-BC North District Office conducted nine roundups, assisted by the Dawson Creek RCMP and Fort St. John RCMP, of 29 individuals involved.

14 other people are still at large and investigators are making efforts to locate and arrest them.

Charge approval has been obtained for three individuals in relation to this investigation.

On December 5th, 2015, investigators arrested Jamie Christopher St. Denis and Christina Marie Mackay in Dawson Creek for attempting to sell 24 ounces of cocaine for $39,000.

37-year old Jamie Christopher St. Denis of Dawson Creek was originally charged with 18 drug and firearms offenses. On February 19th, 2016, St. Denis pleaded guilty to charges of trafficking cocaine, trafficking a firearm, and possession of an illegal firearm. He received 7.5 years in jail and is currently serving time for these offences.

30-year old Christina Marie MacKay of Bay Tree, Alberta has been charged with one count of trafficking cocaine, one count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of breach of conditions

36-year old Ryan Holden of Dawson Creek has been charged with one count of possession of a firearm without license or registration, two counts of possession of a fire knowing no license or registration, two counts of possession of a fire contrary to order, one count of careless use or storage of a firearm, one count possession of body armour without a permit, and one count possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

Holden and Mackay are set to appear in a Dawson Creek court on July 14 and 15, 2016 at 9:30 AM for a preliminary hearing.

“These enforcement actions are a blow to the capabilities of certain gang members in BC’s North and Peace regions. We have taken guns and drugs off the streets of our communities, and reduced the threat to public safety,” said C/Supt. Kevin Hackett, Chief Officer of the CFSEU-BC. “CFSEU-BC will continue its relentless pursuit of those gang members and their associates who choose to continue their criminal enterprises and place our communities at risk.”

"This multi-jurisdictional investigation pulled together a number of local, regional and provincial resources to target the illegal and criminal activities within the BC's Peace Region. Success was due to an intelligence-based, targeted and coordinated approach which will continue to be a priority for North District,” said C/Supt Lesley Bain, RCMP E Division North District Commander. “We remain committed to identifying, investigating, disrupting and deterring those who chose to commit offenses in our northern communities".

Update: Man Wanted In Connection With Alleged Peace Region Drug Trafficking Arrested In Logan Lake

One of the nine individuals wanted in connection to a CFSEU-BC investigation into alleged drug trafficking in B.C.’s Peace Region has been located and arrested in Logan Lake, B.C.

In July 2015, the CFSEU-BC North District Office began an investigation in street and mid-level drug traffickers which resulted in the arrests of multiple individuals and the seizure of drugs and firearms.

As a result of the investigation, the CFSEU-BC’s North District Office seized cocaine, fentanyl, percocets, an AR15 semi-automatic rifle, as well as crystal methamphetamine, GHB, amphetamine, cash, and two additional firearms, from five search warrants and numerous traffic stops.

In June and on September 14th, media releases were issued regarding an update to the investigation and naming those currently charged with offences. See original release. See updated release.

22-year old Lashway Merritt of Williams Lake is charged with one count of trafficking in a controlled substance. He was located in Logan Lake and arrested this past weekend. The CFSEU-BC was advised by the Williams Lake RCMP that they were aware that Merritt was currently in Logan Lake. Efforts to contact Merritt were undertaken and he turned himself in at the Logan Lake RCMP Detachment.

Lashway Merritt was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Dawson Creek Provincial Court on October 4th, 2016.

Efforts continue to locate the remaining eight wanted individuals and current information suggests that they may either be in Ontario or the Maritimes.

20-year old Danick Daniel Leger is charged with two counts of trafficking a controlled substance and two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. There is currently a warrant out for his arrest.

19-year old Shane Lyne is charged with one count of trafficking a controlled substance and one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking. His next court date is scheduled for September 21st, 2016 in Fort St. John Law Courts.

24-year old Jamie Joseph Cormier is charged with three counts of trafficking a controlled substance. There is currently a warrant out for his arrest.

37-year old William James McWhirter of Fort St. John is charged with three counts of trafficking a controlled substance and four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. His next court date is scheduled for October 12th, 2016 in Fort St. John Law Courts.

20-year old Wayne Allan Weatherhead is charged with two counts of trafficking a controlled substance. His next court date is scheduled for October 5th, 2016 in Fort St. John Law Courts.

20-year old Colby Lynne Davis is charged with two counts of trafficking a controlled substance. His next court date is scheduled for October 5th, 2016 in Fort St. John Law Courts.

25-year old David James Oster of Fort St. John is charged with four counts of trafficking a controlled substance and one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking. His next court date is scheduled for September 14th, 2016 in Fort St. John Law Courts.

Update: Man Wanted Arrested in Chilliwack

One of the eight individuals wanted in connection to a CFSEU-BC investigation into alleged drug trafficking in B.C.’s Peace Region has been located and arrested in Chilliwack, B.C.

In July 2015, the CFSEU-BC North District Office began an investigation in street and mid-level drug traffickers which resulted in the arrests of multiple individuals and the seizure of drugs and firearms.

As a result of the investigation, the CFSEU-BC’s North District Office seized cocaine, fentanyl, percocets, an AR15 semi-automatic rifle, as well as crystal methamphetamine, GHB, amphetamine, cash, and two additional firearms, from five search warrants and numerous traffic stops.

In June and on September 14th, media releases were issued regarding an update to the investigation and naming those currently charged with offences. See original release. See updated release.

On September 23rd, 2016 Curtis Britz turned himself in on his warrant at the Chilliwack Court Registry.

23-year old Curtis Britz of Fort St. John has been charged with two counts of trafficking a controlled substance. He is to appear in Chilliwack Provincial Court on October 4th, 2016.

Last week, another individual connected to this investigation was arrested in Logan Lake, B.C. See release.

22-year old Jerron James Shane Kraushar of Fort St. John is charged with two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance and, until yesterday when he turned himself into the Fort St. John RCMP, had a warrant out for his arrest.

Jerron Kraushar was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Fort St. John Provincial Court on October 12th, 2016.

Update: Fifth Man Wanted In Connection With Alleged Drug Trafficking Network Arrested at a Traffic Stop in 150 Mile House

The CFSEU-BC investigation into alleged drug trafficking in B.C.’s Peace Region has resulted in a fifth individual being arrested, this time at a traffic stop in the town of 150 Mile House, British Columbia.

On September 30th, 2016, RCMP conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle in the town of 150 Mile, B.C. Officers observed a male believed to be wanted in connection to an alleged drug trafficking ring operating in B.C.’s Peace Region, seated in the front passenger seat and requested assistance from the Williams Lake RCMP. The Williams Lake RCMP attended the traffic stop and positively identified the individual as Arin Charleyboy, who was subsequently arrested.
