in brief overview

Ghibli Model Year 2017 The Ghibli MY17 adopts additional high-tech content in the area of on-board comfort and driver assistance while offering an even higher degree of customisation thanks to the new Luxury and Sport packages.

For the MY17 upgrade the range remains faithful to its DNA while offering unmistakable class, top-quality performance and a thrilling yet comfortable driving experience in a premium saloon that is more desirable than ever before. The exterior design stands out for its coupé-like philosophy and several unique features in the E High-End Segment, like the distinctive c-pillar that bears the iconic “Saetta” logo, the frameless doors, the pronounced grille that resembles iconic Maserati of the ‘50s and the four exhaust chromium-plated pipes on all versions. When it was launched, the Ghibli offered the highest degree of customisation in its segment. The MY17 takes a further step towards satisfying individual taste with the introduction of two new packages, Luxury and Sport, which enhance the standard features of every Maserati. The packages are designed to appeal to customers with differing tastes. The Luxury and Sport packages personalise the exterior finish and create a focused environment for the driver and passengers. Two Carbon packages, one with exterior and the other with interior elements, are now available as a further customisation option and an upgrade for the Sport Package. The MY17 Ghibli benefits from interior upgrades as well. The central dashboard has been redesigned to accommodate a high resolution 8.4” screen with multi touch function. The new infotainment system is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring functions. The central, lower console has also been redesigned and now hosts a rotary knob to control volume and functions, a new lid and a new phone storage compartment.

Timeless design, more customisation While the exterior styling of the Maserati Ghibli sports saloon remains untouched for the MY17, the introduction of the Luxury and Sport packages provides an even higher degree of customisation, dedicated to customers with distinctive styles. With the longest wheelbase in the category, a total length of 4.97 m and wide tracks, the Ghibli demonstrates a perfect blend of sportiness and elegance that is second to none in its class. Compared to the Quattroporte, the Ghibli is 293 mm shorter and 50 kg lighter. The wheelbase is 2,998 mm, 173 mm shorter than that of the flagship saloon. The outline of the body reflects a coupé-like philosophy, while there are noticeable feline hints around the grille and the headlights. The pronounced grille is reminiscent of the iconic A6 GCS of the 1950’s. The headlights converge onto the Trident, with every angle designed to draw the attention to Maserati’s legendary symbol. The distinctive C-pillar is responsible for much of the Ghibli’s coupé- like feel and hosts the classical “Saetta” Maserati logo, continuing a tradition dating back to 1963. The side profile is dominated by swaged lines on the bodywork that give it muscular impact; they run from the unmistakable Maserati air vents behind the front wheels through to the rear wheel arches and rear lights, without intersecting. The Ghibli’s body and underbody design fulfil the sporty promise of its appearance with a low drag coefficient of 0.31 that contributes to reducing fuel consumption and improving stability at high speeds. The Ghibli can be fitted with a selection of aluminium rims ranging from 18 to 21 inches, all of which enhance the car’s visual appearance and are engineered to lower the unsprung mass for better grip and handling. While the 18’’ and 19” and the majority of 20” alloy rims are crafted using flow-forming technology that reduces the core thickness of the wheels and prioritizes lightness without sacrificing stiffness and strength, the 21” and the new 20” design rims are in forged alloy for even lower weight and thinner spokes.

Luxury and Sport oriented customisations Luxury and sportiness, the essential elements that form the DNA of every Maserati, are now represented in two new packages introduced in the MY17 Ghibli. Both packs are conceived to satisfy individual customer styles. The Luxury pack gives the Ghibli exterior a touch of extra elegance and includes 19” “Poseidone” wheels, black brake calipers, exclusive Zegna Edition Silk or Full Premium Leather Interiors and 12-Way Power Comfort Seats with Memory function. The Sport package gives the Ghibli an even sportier appearance and includes 20” Urano machine polished wheels, red brake calipers. Skyhook Adaptive Suspension, 12-Way Power Sport Seats, and a Sport Steering Wheel. An exterior Carbon Package, which emphasises the Ghibli’s racing DNA, is available as a further customisation option. It includes door handles, external mirrors, B-pillar /C-pillar covers and rear trunk spoiler in carbon fibre.

Adaptive Front-lighting System The Ghibli’s distinctive headlights are fitted with Bi-xenon and LED daytime running lights. The Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), which is standard on the Ghibli S and SQ4, actively adjusts the headlight depth to combine an outstanding view of the road with very low glare for oncoming traffic. Each headlight includes LED daytime running lights, with a light shape that provides instant recognisability in both day and night running. Each light also contains direction indicators, LED side position lights and a side reflector. With a video camera integrated into the rear-view mirror, the lighting system offers beam control specifically for motorway driving which increases the depth of the light beam without the need for manual high beam activation. Sensors monitor driving style and speed and if the road is clear, the beam depth offers the greatest depth and width, combined with the directional rotation of the headlights themselves.

In addition, there are four different automatic lighting setups: for city driving, for motorway conditions, for low visibility and for driving on the opposite side of the road in applicable countries. Each of these modes automatically activates a strategy to best illuminate the road surface. The Town Beam turns on below 45 km/h and sets the beam wider and shallower, giving a better view for turning and for peripheral danger zones while causing minimum disturbance for fellow road users. The LED tail lights have been designed to offer maximum visibility while maintaining a recognisable style. They integrate the position light function in an illuminated ring running right around the tail light itself. Inside this ring are the brake lights, the direction indicators, the reverse lights and the fog lights. The outside reflector and LED side position lights round off the unit.

The rear shelf has two 100 mm Kevlar midranges and a 315x200 mm subwoofer. The technical Clari-Fi function that was introduced in the Ghibli MY16 is an advanced solution for digital music that is capable of restoring the artistic details lost in your digitally-compressed songs. Clari-Fi scans all types of compressed audio files for lost music details, supporting MP3, AAC, Satellite Radio, Playback and Streaming Music Services, and intelligently corrects waveform deficiencies based on existing music information and audio source quality. By recapturing the missing highs and lows, restoring the vocals to their natural tone, returning to a true stereo sound and removing unwanted distortions and artefacts, these features exclusive to the Bowers & Wilkins Premium Audio system set a new benchmark in automotive audio. The system perfectly reproduces every nuance of the sound with the utmost dynamic purity. As the QuantumLogic™ Surround Sound system processes each track, individual elements such as musical instruments and voices and the interior's reverb are identified, separated and processed into a surround sound field which is exceptionally realistic and precise and creates a perfectly defined audio image.

Wi-Fi Hotspot The Ghibli can contain optional WLAN technology that effectively turns the car into a Wi-Fi Hotspot. Owners can place a SIM card into the WLAN router to receive Internet signals, which can be resent around the car as a wireless Internet signal. Up to three devices can be connected simultaneously.

Climate control with Air Quality Sensor Ghibli is now equipped with Air Quality Sensor, a feature that substantially improves the comfort of occupants on-board. The system combines an intelligent sensor and a signal analysis system that calculates the external pollution levels and prevents polluted air and toxic gases from entering the cabin.

Keyless Entry In the world of Maserati, small details are everything - right down to the design of the aluminium key, which reflects the Ghibli style and incorporates ‘Keyless Go’ technology. Once inside the car, the driver has only to press the ignition button to start the engine. The ‘Keyless Entry’ function enables the driver to open the doors or boot without ever touching the key.

Power Boot Lid with Hands-Free Mode With the introduction of the Power Boot lid, the light aluminium boot lid is now autonomous in its closing phase. With its electric actuators and a motorised latch, the system makes it possible to open or close the boot automatically, ensuring that the lid is locked upon closing. What's more, it is possible to open and close the boot lid by simply moving your foot under the rear bumper. In this case, and for safety reasons, the lid will open or close only if the “Passive Entry” system acknowledges the presence of the key.

A range of high-performance 3-litre V6 engines  Petrol Twin Turbo V6 manufactured by Ferrari in Maranello  3.0 V6 twin-turbo GDI petrol engine with 410 hp & 350 hp  5.9 litres/100 km for the 275 hp diesel version  Euro 6 homologation for all engines

State-of-the-art Twin Turbo V6 The two Maserati Twin Turbo V6 engines featuring the latest GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) technology form the beating heart of the Ghibli. The V6 petrol engines were designed by Maserati Powertrain and are manufactured by Ferrari in Maranello for the exclusive use of Maserati. These new-generation engines are powerful, exciting to drive and more eco-friendlythanks to the Start&Stop technology and Euro 6 homologation. The 2,979 cc V6 engine shares part of its technology with the 3.0-litre V6 engine available on the Quattroporte. It uses the same Gasoline Direct Injection technology, cylinder architecture and combustion technology along with two low-inertia parallel and four continuous camshaft phasers. A characteristic feature of this Maserati engine family is the 200 bar direct fuel-injection system. This very high pressure helps atomise the fuel, thus improving the fuel-air mixture and optimising combustion at higher engine speeds. The Ghibli has two - one to feed each of the turbo chargers - mounted low on either side of the main radiator to catch a constant supply of fresh, cool air. Maserati Powertrain has implemented on-demand ancillaries, with a variable displacement oil pump that works under electrical control for improved consumption and performance. The Ghibli also features the I.C.E. (Increased Control & Efficiency) driving mode, aimed at reducing consumption, emissions and noise. It delivers softer pedal response for smooth driving, cancels the ’s over-boost function and keeps the exhaust’s “sport” flaps closed up to 5,000 rpm.

in detail engines

It also adjusts the gear changes to make them softer and slower and reduces torque at each gear’s take-up point.

Maserati Soundtrack In the best Maserati tradition, the sound and performance of the Ghibli’s exhaust system are controlled by pneumatic valves in the pipes emerging from each bank to maintain the rich aural tradition of the brand. In “normal” mode, the bypass valves are closed up to 3,000 rpm to give a comfortable and discreet engine sound, which emerges through four sport exhaust tips. The “sport” mode not only adjusts a variety of handling parameters but also opens the exhaust valves, providing the shortest possible, high-energy route for the exhaust gases, guaranteeing the maximum engine performance of the Ghibli and the unique Maserati engine sound.

Ghibli - 350 hp V6 Twin Turbo The turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 gasoline engine available on the Ghibli now delivers 350 hp at 5,000 rpm - 20 hp more than in the previous version - and 500 Nm torque from 1,750 up to 4,500 rpm in over- boost mode. Fuel consumption is just 8.9 litres/100 km and CO2 emissions 207 grams/km. The 350 hp Ghibli is capable of accelerating to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 267 km/h.

Ghibli S & SQ4 - 410 hp V6 Twin Turbo The Ghibli S and SQ4 feature the most powerful version of the 2,979 cc V6 engine, which shares part of its technology with the 3.0-litre V6 engine available on the Quattroporte S and SQ4. It uses the same gasoline direct injection technology, cylinder architecture and combustion technology along with two low-inertia parallel turbochargers and four continuous camshaft phasers. With 410 hp at 5,500 rpm, the V6 available on the Ghibli S and SQ4 delivers a powerful drive with a torque of 550 Nm between 1,750 rpm and 5,000 rpm. The maximum engine speed is 6,500 rpm, yet it

in detail engines delivers 90 percent of its 550 Nm of torque from 1,600 rpm. It also has an over-boost function that is capable of providing the engine’s maximum boost between 1,750 rpm and 5,000 rpm.

Ghibli Diesel The Ghibli Diesel is the first diesel-powered car in Maserati history. The 3.0 litre V6 Turbodiesel with Common-Rail direct injection has been exclusively developed by Maserati. The Euro 6 homologated unit includes Ad Blue technology, the Start&Stop system, which results in overall fuel and CO2 emission reductions of up to 6%, and an Active Sound System that gives it a thrilling exhaust growl. This engine produces a best-in-its-class power output of 275 hp, while still achieving a CO2 figure of 158 g/km. Fuel consumption of 5.9 l/100 km in the combined cycle and a 70-litre tank ensure a long range of over 1,000 kilometres, making the Ghibli Diesel a car that really serves the needs of customers who use their vehicles to travel long distances for work or leisure. The Ghibli Diesel boasts a maximum torque of 600 Nm between 2,000-2,600 rpm (with over-boost turbocharging). It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds before going on to a top speed of 250 km/h. The state-of-the-art engine includes Ad Blue technology and Euro 6 homologation, as well as a Common-Rail direct injection with system pressure of up to 2,000 bars. Multiple injections reduce fuel consumption and noise levels while also improving responsiveness and agility. In addition, the variable geometry turbocharger with variable nozzle turbine allows the engine to deliver both high output and high torque from low revolutions.

The Start&Stop system generates overall fuel and CO2 emission efficiencies of up to 6%. This function is automatically deactivated in “sport” mode and when the driver turns the stability control off. It can also be deactivated from the cluster display controls using the steering-wheel buttons.

Active Sound System Thanks to Maserati Active Sound technology, the Ghibli Diesel sounds just as good as the famed Maserati gasoline engines, with a truly thrilling exhaust growl. Two sound actuators, fitted near the exhaust tailpipes, accentuate the engine’s most distinctive tones and modulate them according to the way the car is being driven. The actuator transforms the exhaust tones into an unmistakable sound, full-bodied yet restrained in “normal” mode and much sportier and more aggressive in “sport” mode.

8-speed automatic & Q4 AWD • ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox • Intelligent Q4 AWD system • Mechanical rear limited-slip differential as standard

All versions of the Ghibli are fitted with the same ZF AT8 - HP70 eight- speed automatic transmission, also installed on the Quattroporte. The transmission caters for all demands, from comfort to fast gear shifting, and from minimized fuel consumption to low Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH). There are five dedicated shift modes: “Auto Normal”, “Auto Sport”, “Manual Normal”, “Manual Sport” and “I.C.E.” mode. “Auto Normal” is the Ghibli’s default setting and performs its gear changes with smooth shifts at low engine speeds to emphasize the car’s comfort and to minimize fuel consumption. The “Auto Sport” mode sees the transmission switch the drive character to change gears with greater alacrity at higher engine speeds and delivers distinct gear engagement to enhance the powertrain’s sporting feel. The car also recognizes a variety of conditions, such as whether it is travelling up or down hill, is braking hard or is driving through a corner, and selects the best gear and the best gear-shift style accordingly. The transmission can also be controlled manually by selecting the M button on the transmission tunnel. In “Manual Normal” mode, the driver can change gear with either the elongated gearshift paddles besides the steering column or by using the gear lever. The driver is in charge of the gear selection, though the system will intervene and change to a lower gear if the engine revs drop too low or change to a higher gear if the engine revs climb too high. In “Manual Sport” mode gear shifts are at their fastest and crispest, giving the driver full control of the powertrain. The system will not intervene, even if the driver strikes the engine’s rev limiter. It will only

in detail transmission intervene if the engine’s revs drop too low to be effective in a given gear. I.C.E. (Increased Control & Efficiency) mode is designed for remarkable fuel economy, relaxed driving and extremely low grip conditions. The transmission changes gear as softly as possible, both going up through the gears and returning back down. All gearshift modes can be selected via buttons on the left of the gearshift.

Ghibli SQ4: AWD the Maserati way As an option, Maserati offers the Ghibli S together with an All Wheel Drive system for genuine all-weather capability: the Q4 AWD system maximizes traction on every surface. The Ghibli SQ4 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds, slightly faster than the Ghibli S with rear-wheel drive, while maintaining almost identical fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Its top speed is 284 km/h. The Q4 system has been conceived to convey a typical Maserati rear-wheel driving experience, even on low grip road conditions. The system architecture is based on an electronically controlled multi- plate wet , installed into a linked by a drive shaft to the front . The system acts by transferring traction to the front wheels on demand and with an immediate response. In normal driving conditions, the system provides 100% of the engine torque to the rear wheels; this also to optimize fuel consumption and emissions. In low grip driving conditions (slippery or loose road surfaces) or in the case of a loss of grip at the rear axle (acceleration from zero or very high cornering speed) the system reacts instantaneously, transferring the necessary traction to the front wheels. If traction is lost due to excessively fast cornering, sudden acceleration or very low grip on the rear axle, in a mere 150 milliseconds the Q4 all-wheel drive system is capable of altering the torque split from 100% rear wheel drive to equal distribution (50%-50%) between the front and rear wheels. When conditions require, the Q4 All Wheel Drive system, with its variable torque control, is activated constantly and continuously.

While the change in torque split is imperceptible, for the keenest drivers a monitoring system is integrated in the 7” cluster display which shows the front to rear distribution in real time. While driving, a sophisticated algorithm specifically developed by Maserati is capable of monitoring an extensive range of dynamic vehicle parameters in real time, like wheel speed, steering and yaw angle, power output, speed, braking action and ESP, as well as wheel grip versus driving style. Processing all this data, the Q4 system can maximize a dedicated grip profile for each single wheel, creating the optimal vehicle dynamic management to suit any given road condition, at any time. This strategy has the sole objective of optimizing the balance between driving pleasure and safety.

Limited-Slip Differential The Ghibli is the only car in its class to use a standard mechanical limited slip differential in all of its versions in order to deliver the best inherent traction in all driving situations. The bevel-drive, asymmetric unit offers 35 percent lock-up under power and 45 percent under release. The rear differential is driven via a two-piece, 80 mm-thick light- weight steel prop shaft with two constant velocity joints and a head rubber coupling, which runs through a cross member-mounted rubber bearing for lower NVH levels without compromising rigidity.

Grand Touring in absolute comfort • Extensive use of aluminium in chassis, body and suspension • Ideal 50:50% weight distribution • Double wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension

The chassis of the Ghibli shares its core architecture with the Quattroporte and has been precisely designed to meet the performance and comfort demands of Maserati buyers while maximising safety aspects. Based around a rigid and extremely secure steel cell, it uses an array of different steel and aluminium alloys, each designated a precise task to maximise strength, minimise weight and retain the sports saloon’s perfect 50:50 weight distribution models. The front of the chassis features an aluminium casting with a reinforced cross-strut which helps deliver outstanding rigidity in all directions, while the rear of the chassis is made from rolled steel. Accordingly, all four doors and the bonnet are made of aluminium. Ultra-light weight magnesium is used in the dashboard’s cross strut.

Front Double Wishbone - rear Multi Link Suspension Double wishbone suspension layouts are a race-bred tradition at Maserati and the Ghibli continues with this heritage but also incorporates some new technologies. Utilizing a suspension layout and software system that has already proven its qualities in the Quattroporte, the Ghibli has high-mounted all-aluminium double wishbones at the front to guarantee light and precise handling characteristics. The geometry of the system has delivered a quadrilateral architecture, which has enabled Maserati’s handling team to deliver steering that is precise, communicative and comfortable. The rear suspension employs a five-bar multi-link system with four aluminium suspension arms, and has achieved the conflicting targets of executive ride comfort and sports performance.

The Ghibli’s suspension package is based around a fixed rate damping system to control the movement of its steel springs and anti-roll bars. The Ghibli is also available with the option (included in the new Sport pack) of the Skyhook adaptive damping system, where all four dampers can now be electronically controlled independently of each other. The default mode for the Skyhook system prioritizes comfort, and then becomes more athletic if the driver presses the suspension button. This extra damping stiffness, which was developed in both extreme test scenarios and on the racetrack, pushes the Ghibli’s handling to even higher levels. . Essentially, it drastically reduces both longitudinal and lateral load transfers and minimizes body roll to bring out the sportiest side of the car’s character. The computer system in control of the Skyhook dampers monitors an enormous array of parameters including speed and lateral and longitudinal acceleration, individual wheel movements, body movement and damper dynamics. Adjusting also to suit the suspension mode chosen by the driver, the system delivers the perfect damping mode for each wheel almost instantly.

Brakes The Ghibli and the Ghibli Diesel feature four-piston brakes with fixed alloy calipers and 345x28 mm ventilated discs in the front; floating calipers with 330x22 mm ventilated discs in the rear. *EU Market: all versions equipped with Dual Cast Brembo Braking System (360x32mm Front & 345x28mm Rear). The Ghibli S and SQ4 have Dual Cast 360x32mm brakes ventilated and cross-drilled with six-piston fixed alloy Brembo calipers on the front axle, while the rear axle is fitted with four-piston fixed alloy 345x28 mm Brembo calipers. The Dual Cast technology, pioneered by Maserati, allows the weight of the cast-iron braking surface area to be offset with an alloy hat to minimise unsprung mass. These brakes have a large swept area, highly efficient cooling and are designed for consistent performance in sports driving situations.

At 100 km/h the Ghibli S & SQ4 stop in 35 metres. But high- performance stopping power is only one measure of overall braking performance and the collaboration with Brembo also concentrated on optimizing the acoustic comfort of the Ghibli’s breaking systems. Besides being powerful, the Maserati brake calipers have also always added a significant touch of style. Ghibli and Ghibli Diesel have standard matte grey calipers while the Ghibli S & SQ4 calipers are matte black. The Luxury pack also stands out for the painted black calipers and the Sport pack for the calipers painted red. Maserati blue, painted silver and polished silver are additional options for the calipers.

Hydraulic steering The Ghibli uses a technological aluminium steering box, developed specifically for the high-performance front-suspension geometry, to deliver more response, more consistency at high speed and easy manoeuvring at low speed. This allows Maserati’s suspension engineers to deliver extreme precision combined with the steering sensitivity needed when turning into corners at high speeds. It also has a reduced steering ratio, which delivers a level of agility that is rare for this class, and while it is comfortable in all situations, the steering feel is geared up towards driving enjoyment. In line with customer feedback, Maserati has bypassed the trend for electro-hydraulic steering systems. The Ghibli employs a speed- sensitive, servo-powered hydraulic system that prevents unpleasantly artificial assistance when the driver turns the wheel quickly.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems • Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go • Blind Spot Alert • Lane Departure Warning • Forward Collision Warning with Advanced Brake Assist • Automated Emergency Braking • New Rear View Camera with dynamic lines • Surround View Camera • Park Assist

Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go function The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with integrated Stop & Go function, which is included in the optional package of Driver Assistance Systems, further increases comfort and safety when driving on main roads and motorways. The ACC allows the driver to keep cruise control engaged without having to constantly reset the system when approaching slower moving vehicles. When activated (from 30 to 210 km/h), ACC constantly monitors the space between the Ghibli and the vehicle ahead, maintaining a safe pre-set distance. If the traffic slows or another vehicle moves in front, it slows the car down by making it coast or by engaging the brakes. Conversely, when the vehicle ahead speeds up or moves into another lane, the system accelerates up to the pre-set speed. The ACC uses a radar sensor, located on the front grille and a front- looking camera behind the internal rear-view mirror to detect the presence of a vehicle ahead. If the ACC is automatically braking, the stoplights activate as if the driver is braking. Thanks to the integrated Stop & Go function, the car will adjust to the target vehicle’s speed until it comes to a complete stop and will set off automatically within 2 seconds.

Blind Spot Alert & Rear Cross Path The Blind Spot Alert informs the driver through visual and audible signals when a vehicle enters the blind spot zones; this important safety feature, which had been introduced in the MY16 Ghibli as an option, is designed to avoid unwanted collisions while the driver changes lane. BSA is conceived to reduce the risks involved in changing lane, monitoring the blind spot areas using two radar based sensors located inside the rear bumper fascia; when a vehicle approaches from behind, the LED warning signal embedded in the side mirrors lights up while a chime alert also sounds. The area beside and behind the car is monitored at speeds above 10 km/h in order to avoid unwanted collisions with vehicles such as automobiles, trucks or motorcycles. The Rear Cross Path function issues the same alerts also when reversing out of a parking space; this feature is intended to help drivers reverse out of parking spaces where their view of oncoming vehicles may be blocked. Using sensors located on either side of the rear bumper, it detects any vehicles or objects that are moving towards the side of the vehicle from between a minimum speed of approximately 1 to 3 km/h to a maximum of approximately 16 km/h, such as in parking lot situations.

Lane Departure Warning The Lane Departure Warning (LDW) has been designed specifically for motorway driving in order to reduce the risk of the vehicle accidentally departing from its chosen lane. If the vehicle unintentionally crosses the lane markers, graphic instructions on the instrument panel together with an acoustic chime warn the driver that the vehicle is veering out of its lane. When the indicators are activated no warning is given. The system uses a front looking camera in the interior rear-view mirror. The LDW can be de-activated from the Maserati Touch Control Plus and is reactivated automatically every time the engine restarts. The system works only at speeds over 70 km/h.

Forward Collision Warning with Advanced Brake Assist The Forward Collision Warning (FCW) monitors vehicles ahead by means of a camera and warns the driver via visual and audible alerts when they are in danger of a possible rear-end collision. If the driver brakes and the system determines that the driver has not applied sufficient brake force, the Advanced Brake Assist will compensate for this and provide the appropriate amount of additional braking.

Automated Emergency Braking AEB is an active system that provides braking support when collision is imminent. The system is designed to avoid collision or to reduce collision energy. A potential collision is identified by the Adaptive Cruise Control radar and a forward looking camera. The driver is provided with visual and audible alerts as an early warning to start braking. If the driver does not take action, the system will brake autonomously to help slow the vehicle down and minimise the impact.

New Rear View Camera with dynamic lines A next-generation rear view camera is offered with the new Driver Assistance package. The camera, located above the license plate, turns on automatically when the reverse gear is selected and shows the area behind the car on the new high resolution head unit display. The camera utilizes the rear parking sensors to both visually and acoustically alert the driver about potential objects or obstructions. The Dynamic reference lines provide a clear orientation system when parking or during tight manoeuvres. Dynamic grid lines represent the maximum width of the car and the projected path based on the steering angle signal.

Optional Surround View Camera A new Surround View Camera system is available as part of the Driver Assistance Systems Plus. It uses four cameras in total - two

in detail driving experience lateral cameras housed underneath the side mirrors, one camera in the front and one in the rear - and provides a clear 360° view around the car on a top-down image in the new high resolution display. It is activated automatically in reverse gear or manually via the soft button on the 8.4” hi-res display and provides different selectable views: front, front cross (180°), rear, rear cross and top view. It also shows open doors and parking guide lines.

Tyre Pressure Monitoring System The system, which is available as standard on all Ghibli versions, continuously monitors tyre pressure with a sensor mounted inside the rim as part of the valve; the pressure can be read off the display on the dashboard. In the case of a puncture or a change in tyre pressure, the system notifies the driver with visual and acoustic warnings.

Speed Limiter Function To ensure top level safety all* Ghibli cars allow the driver to set a maximum speed limit though the Active Speed Limiter function. This can be activated and deactivated using the button on the steering wheel. If the driver decides to override the limit in extreme situations he just has to “kick down” (providing significant accelerator pedal input) and thus exceed the set speed.

Active and Passive safety • Maserati Stability Program • Passive Safety Systems

Maserati Stability Program Maserati drivers have long known about the benefits of the Maserati Stability Program (MSP) and the Ghibli’s system has been further refined. Developed in the most extreme test conditions, the MSP uses a wide array of sensors to detect any need to intervene on the driver’s behalf. MSP adds a layer of security on top of the Ghibli’s inherent chassis stability. It constantly measures the car’s handling and grip and combines a host of safety and performance systems to maintain the car’s optimum handling. Two of the main elements of the MSP’s operation are the engine and the brakes. If skidding is detected, the MSP reduces the engine’s torque output and can activate the brakes with finely varied inputs to restore the car’s stability within milliseconds.

The other key systems that make up MSP include: • ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) • Anti Slip Regulation (ASR) • Motor Spin Regulator (MSR) that prevents the wheels from locking when downshifting on low-grip surfaces. • Advanced Brake Assist (ABA), which recognises emergency braking situations and increases the pressure in the braking circuit. • Hill Holder, which automatically connects to the braking system to prevent roll back

Passive Safety Systems The Ghibli’s passive safety equipment has been designed to achieve maximum peace of mind. The Ghibli achieves five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test without compromising its weight or fuel consumption.

Maserati has balanced these conflicting demands by using hot- formed steels in critical areas of the passenger compartment for added occupant safety, while using aluminium in other areas to save weight. In particular, the front of the passenger compartment (the pillars and under-door mouldings) features hot-moulded steel components, with a magnesium dashboard strut to save weight, while the rear is stiffened with high strength steel. The crash bars at the front and rear of the car are made of extruded aluminium, while the doors and bonnetare in aluminium. Maserati’s engineers added a third crash load path to the front structure of the car to help dissipate load and distribute the forces on the car to guarantee the stability of the body structure in frontal impacts.

Seven-Airbag system The Ghibli is equipped with a seven-airbag system and anti-whiplash front headrests. At the front, two-stage airbags are concealed from the occupants inside the steering wheel and dashboard to protect the head in frontal accidents while a knee airbag protects the driver’s legs and reduces the femur load in crash situations. The chest and hips of the front occupants are further protected by the side airbags beneath the seat leather. The sides of the occupants’ heads are protected by two head “curtain” bags mounted in the roof of the car, next to the B-pillar. The “curtain” bag protects the heads of the front and rear occupants against lateral impact.

Seat belts and restraint systems The front seats are brimming with safety equipment designed to reduce trauma to the occupant's cervical vertebrae. If the car is involved in a rear-end accident, its active headrests automatically reduce the distance between their surface and the passenger's head.

The front three-point seatbelts are equipped with load-limiting pyrotechnic pre-tensioners, which come into action in the event of a
