During the present study, total 23 fish species were recorded from Halali reservoir. formed the major portion of the Mohd Asad Khan Icthyofauna. Diversity of Cypriniformes was relatively high and was followed by Siluriformes. The total 23 fish species were recorded under 6 order and 7 families. Introduction Madhya Pradesh is rich with different aquatic ecosystem and has 3.0 lakh hectare water areas in the form of lakes, reservoir and ponds [1]. All these aquatic ecosystems support diversified flora and fauna. India is one of the mega biodiversity countries in the world and occupies the ninth position in term of freshwater mega biodiversity [2]. The Indian fish fauna is an assemblage of about 2500 species depicting diverse characteristic, of which 930 belonging to 326 genera, inhabit the inland waters [3] and 1570 are found in marine water [4, 5] studied Ichthyofaunal diversity of a fresh Upper lake Bhopal (M.P) and recorded 35 species, the dominant family. A number of ichthyologists have made contribution on the diversity and systematic of Madhya Pradesh. [6] Studied fish fauna of Madhya Pradesh and recorded 104 species out of which 50%

belonging to family Cyprinidae. The fish fauna in the rivers of Madhya Pradesh is also on [7] [8] [1] [9] record Chambal , Tapti River , River Rihand and River Sone , the information on fish diversity of Madhya Pradesh is very old and has not been updated for decades. Halali Reservoir is one of the most important reservoirs of Madhya Pradesh, about 40 km away from Bhopal (capital city of Madhya Pradesh) in Raisen/Vidisha district situated 0 0 between 23 30´ North latitude and 77 30´ East longitude with a catchment area of 699 sq. [10] km, water spread of about 5259 ha with a maximum depth of about 29.57 m, . It is perennial storage irrigation reservoir based on Halali River, which originates around Bhopal at an altitude of about 487.69 m above sea level and after travelling about 38 kms joins river Betwa, just downstream of Vidisha town [10]. Halali Reservoir is one of a major water body of central

India. This is known as “Samar Ashok Sagar Project”. Agriculture and fishing are the main source of livelihood for the people of these areas and this dam fulfil the demand of the people of this area. Species within a fish community and other species or life forms across aqua regimes are given their attendance in Halali reservoir [11]. Keeping in view; the present study was conducted to investigate diversity of fish fauna of Halali reservoir at Raisen/Vadisha.

2. Materials and Methods The present study was conducted and aims to record the fish diversity of during the post monsoon season at Halali reservoir Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh for the time period of 5 months Correspondence from July-November, 2016. The Upper Lake lies between 23° 30’ N latitude and 77° 30’E Ghulam Mustafa longitude. During the present studies, fish samples were collected.
