It’s been a good while since I have written an update concerning David “Kid” Ramos’ condition. As you may know, Kid has spent the major part of the last 20 months battling a rare form of cancer. After undergoing radia- tion treatments, major surgery and intense Chemo Therapy, Kid is finally coming up on his last 3 five day sessions of Chemo. Although Kid is a positive and serious fighter and has been reaching deep for the faith to beat this extremely serious condition, the battle has been debilitating to say the least. The doctors have convinced Kid and his family that this is his only window of opportunity to try and kill this thing forever. So Kid fights on but it is becoming increasingly harder to recuperate from the Chemo and it takes longer each time. We all pray that with the medical help Kid is receiving, his strong faith and his ability to fight, he will come out the other end of this disease and continue to live a good life supporting his family and kids through college. Kid has given us so much wonderful music over the years from his early days with The James Harman Band and Hol- lywood Fats, to his solo albums and work with his pal Lynwood Slim, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Los Fabulocos and most recently The Mannish Boys. Now is our opportunity to give back to Kid. So many of you have helped Kid and his family by donating what you can towards his mounting medical bills. The Ramos Family has reached a point where Kid’s disability insurance has run out. A lot is at stake and Kid wor- ries that he will lose all that he has worked so hard for the last 30+ plus years. More importantly he worries that his family will suffer financially. Therefore I am making a personal plea to all of his friends, fans and concerned individuals to reach in your pockets and give what you can to help Kid and his family get through this extremely trying time. Every single dollar counts and it is GREATLY appreciated. You can go directly to the Delta Groove web site at www.deltagroovemusic.com and donate through PayPal using our direct donate link, go directly through PayPal at [email protected] or you can send a check made out to David Ramos directly to the Delta Groove office at Delta Groove Music 16501 Sherman Way, Suite 100 Van Nuys, CA 91406 USA and your check will be sent to Kid’s home. Cards and letters with well wishes would also be greatly appreciated. Our Sincere Thanks, Randy Chortkoff – CEO & Producer – Delta Groove Records

The Kinsey Report will play its energetic, rocky blues sound at the 21st Saloon Thursday concert series on September 26th.

The three Kinsey brothers; Ralph, Donald and Kenneth are the heart and soul of the band. The musicians are the sons of the late Chi- cago blues man, Lester “Big Daddy” Kinsey, and their careers as members of ’s Fabulous Sons. The three brothers are joined by long time friend Nick Byrd, who also plays in Kenneth Kinsey’s group, Funky Mojo Daddy.

The Gary, Ind. natives formed their band over 25 years ago. Donald is on guitar, Ralph kills the drums, Kenneth plays bass and Nick Byrd plays guitar; the entire group sings. Donald Kinsey, the leader of the group, said playing with his brothers has made all of them musically in sync with one another.

Donald Kinsey said artists such as The Three Kings, BB Freddie and Chuck Berry have a big influence on him. However, he said his church and his father are his two biggest inspi- rations. Donald Kinsey has an impressive resume in the music industry as he has played with artists like , Albert King and superstar Bob .

The Kinsey Report has its unique sound down to a science in each of their five albums: “Edge of the City,” “Midnight Drive,” “Powerhouse,” “Crossing Bridges” and “Smoke and Steel.”

No stranger to the road, Donald Kinsey said the hardest thing is being away from his family and missing them but he does love what being on tour means to him.

“I like sharing the feeling that the music brings to the people,” he said. BSO CALENDAR SEPTEMBER EVENT LISTINGS

THE HONEYBOY TURNER BAND AT MCKENNA’S What a nostalgic night. McKenna’s was the first place I ever played on stage-back in 1996. Glad to see they are booking bands again in earnest, and (as always), it’s a treat to see my buddies from the Honeyboy band. A BSO Thank you for bringing in the Honeyboy Turner band, you won’t find any more veteran musicians than this group. --Jon Pearson PAGE 10 BLUES NEWS • BLUES SOCIETY OF OMAHA
