  • Parade Rewind with Al Roker: His Idea of Perfect Weather and How Oversleeping Inspired His First App MAY 2, 2014
Parade Rewind with Al Roker: His Idea of Perfect Weather and How Oversleeping Inspired His First App MAY 2, 2014 By ERIN HILL @ErinHillNY America’s favorite weatherman, Al Roker, stopped by to chat with Paradeabout his brand new app, Al’s Weather Rokies (available on iTunes), his early morning routine, growing up in Queens, New York, and having a spouse in the same industry. Check AlRoker.com for all the latest! Tell us about your new app, Al’s Weather Rokies. “Al’s Weather Rokies is unlike anything out there. There are gaming apps, there are weather apps, but there isn’t anything that puts the two together. So you get a forecast, you get information you need to know, but there’s a little game involved. Of course I do early morning TV, both Wake Up with Al and the Todayshow, and there was a little episode last year when I overslept for the first time. There’s a game that involves these cute little weather characters that you have to use to wake me up and help me get to the studio. So it’s both a game and a weather app.” And it incorporates your love of animation. “Yeah, I have loved animation ever since I was a little kid. I wanted to be an animator. What’s been great is that I’ve been able to use some of that in designing these apps and working with the programmers to get the animation right. It’s kind of addictive’ it’s fun. I think each of these little weather icons, these Rokies, whether it’s a cloud or a sun or a windstorm, all have their own little personality.” What were some of your favorite cartoons as a kid? “The classics, Tom and Jerry, The Roadrunner, Bugs Bunny, all the classic Disney feature animations, and then even as I got older, I still loved animation, The Animaniacs, and you move forward into Batman and Batman Beyond.

  • Fall•2017 Dear Friends, : “Passion Is As Fitness Superstar Shaun T Says in His Upcoming Book, T Is for Transformation Your Personal Mojo
Rodale Fall•2017 Dear Friends, As fitness superstar Shaun T says in his upcoming book, T is for Transformation: “Passion is your personal mojo. If you’re truly feeling it, nothing seems impossible.” There are no truer words to describe our upcoming fall 2017 list, in which many of our authors are writing about the transformative nature of finding (and chasing) your true passion. Believe it or not, cooking is one of fashion designer and Project Runway star Zac Posen’s biggest passions! As a child, Zac would always cook meals with his mom, often picking vegetables right from their garden and adding them to the day’s recipe. He eventually cultivated a repertoire of fresh, easy, and inventive meals that he started showcasing on Instagram, using the hashtag #cookingwithzac. Now we’re thrilled to partner with Zac on his first cookbook, Cooking with Zac, helping him to bring his healthy and delicious recipes to a wider audience. We’re also extremely excited about a new book by the mega-bestselling author of Proof of Heaven, Eben Alexander, MD. Since his near death experience in 2008, Dr. Alexander has searched for ways to reconnect with the Divine powers of the universe that he experienced while in a coma. In Impossible Truth, he shows readers how to successfully go within, using practices to enhance mindfulness and experience the profound peace and love of spiritual connection. “Fiercely passionate” is definitely a phrase you can use to describe TLC star Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins. In The Sick Life, she talks about her passion for music, her fast rise to fame, and the hidden health issue that threatened to hold her back.

  • 2010 Music for All National Festival Program Book
presented by March 4-6, 2010 Indianapolis, Indiana Programs of Music for All Greetings from the President & CEO March 4, 2010 Greetings, Welcome to Indianapolis and the 2010 Music for All National Festival, presented by Yamaha. It is my pleasure to welcome you to this premier event, recognized as the epitome of music festivals, and to congratulate you for being recognized as one of the finest school music programs in America. 2010 marks the 35th anniversary of Music for All’s Bands of America and my 26th L. Scott McCormick year as the executive director of the organization. For the past 34 years, we have been able to provide positively life-changing experiences to over 1.25 million young people and educators. Today, more than ever, I am encouraged by what lies on the horizon and at the same time looking at current challenges that we have not previously experienced. Today, we have greater evidence than we have ever had about the impact that music and the arts have on preparing our young people for the new creative society. And yet we face more and more schools looking at budget cuts that, unfortunately, too often look at the wrong places to cut. It is time to grow the largest community of advocates in our history. With the army of alumni that this organization has, we all need to reach out to engage each of our respective school’s alumni and come together with a single message. If you read this, like so many parents and teachers have in the past, and say, these budget cuts and issues will not affect our program, I know of several nationally recognized music programs’ parents and teachers who were of the same opinion a year ago.
