Hymn “Come to Calvary’s Holy Mountain LSB 435 1 Come to Calv’ry’s holy mountain, 3 Come in sorrow and contrition, Sinners, ruined by the fall; Wounded, impotent, and blind; Here a pure and healing fountain Here the guilty, free remission, Flows for you, for me, for all, Here the troubled, peace may find. In a full, perpetual tide, Health this fountain will restore; Opened when our Savior died. They that drink shall thirst no more.

2 Come in poverty and meanness, 4 They that drink shall live forever; Come defiled, without, within; ’Tis a soul-renewing flood. From infection and uncleanness, God is faithful; God will never From the leprosy of sin, Break His covenant of blood, Wash your robes and make them white; Signed when our Redeemer died, Ye shall walk with God in light. Confession and Absolution (Psalm 51:1-12; Psalm 130:3)

P Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; C according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. P Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! C For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. P Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, C so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment. P Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, C and in sin did my mother conceive me. P Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, C and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart. P Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; C wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. P Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice. C Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. All: Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. P If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins, C O Lord, who could stand? P But with you there is forgiveness; C therefore you are feared. {Time for Silent Reflection} P The Lord has heard your cry for mercy. Through the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed for you, I announce the Grace of God to you. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, your sins are forgiven. C Amen.

Hymn “Jesus, I Will Ponder Now” LSB 440 (verse 5) 5 If my sins give me alarm And my conscience grieve me, Let Your cross my fear disarm; Peace of conscience give me. Help me see forgiveness won By Your holy passion. If for me He slays His Son, God must have compassion! Text: Public domain

Old Testament Reading: Exodus 12:21-27

21Then Moses called all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go and select lambs for yourselves according to your clans, and kill the Passover lamb. 22Take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and touch the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. None of you shall go out of the door of his house until the morning. 23For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians, and when he sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to enter your houses to strike you. 24You shall observe this rite as a statute for you and for your sons forever. 25And when you come to the land that the Lord will give you, as he has promised, you shall keep this service. 26And when your children say to you, ‘What do you mean by this service?’ 27you shall say, ‘It is the sacrifice of the Lord’s Passover, for he passed over the houses of the people of Israel in Egypt, when he struck the Egyptians but spared our houses.’” And the people bowed their heads and worshiped.

P This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God.

Special Music (6:00pm) “Be Still My Soul”

Epistle Reading: 1 Corinthians 11:23-26

23For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

P This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God.

Gospel Reading: Matthew 26:26-29

26Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 27And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, 28for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

P This is the Gospel of the Lord. C Praise to you, O Christ.

Sermon Hymn “Not All the Blood of Beasts” LSB 431 1 Not all the blood of beasts 3 My faith would lay its hand On Jewish altars slain On that dear head of Thine, Could give the guilty conscience peace While as a penitent I stand, Or wash away the stain. And there confess my sin.

2 But Christ, the heav’nly Lamb, 4 My soul looks back to see Takes all our sins away; The burden Thou didst bear A sacrifice of nobler name When hanging on the cursèd tree; And richer blood than they. I know my guilt was there.

5 Believing, we rejoice To see the curse remove; We bless the Lamb with cheerful voice And sing His bleeding love. Text: Public domain

Sermon “Not Alone”

5

Nicene Creed C I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life T of the world to come. Amen.

“Lord Jesus Christ, We Humbly Pray” LSB 623 1 Lord Jesus Christ, we humbly pray 3 By faith Your Word has made us bold That we may feast on You today; To seize the gift of love retold; Beneath these forms of bread and wine All that You are we here receive, Enrich us with Your grace divine. And all we are to You we give.

2 Give us, who share this wondrous food, 4 One bread, one cup, one body, we, Your body broken and Your blood, Rejoicing in our unity, The grateful peace of sins forgiv’n, Proclaim Your love until You come The certain joys of heirs of heav’n. To bring Your scattered loved ones home.

“Go to Dark Gethsemane” LSB 436 1 Go to dark Gethsemane, 3 Calv’ry’s mournful mountain climb; All who feel the tempter’s pow’r; There, adoring at His feet, Your Redeemer’s conflict see, Mark that miracle of time, Watch with Him one bitter hour; God’s own sacrifice complete. Turn not from His griefs away; “It is finished!” hear Him cry; Learn from Jesus Christ to pray. Learn from Jesus Christ to die.

2 Follow to the judgment hall, 4 Early hasten to the tomb View the Lord of life arraigned; Where they laid His breathless clay; Oh, the wormwood and the gall! All is solitude and gloom. Oh, the pangs His soul sustained! Who has taken Him away? Shun not suff’ring, shame, or loss; Christ is ris’n! He meets our eyes. Learn from Him to bear the cross. Savior, teach us so to rise. The Stripping of the Altar (6:00pm) Removing all ornaments, linens, and paraments is an ancient custom of the church done on Maundy Thursday. It is symbolic of the humiliation of Jesus at the hands of the soldiers. The congregation remains seated during the stripping of the altar as we listen to Psalm 22. During this time, you are encouraged to contemplate the humiliation of the Lord. There is no Benediction.

The Reading of Psalm 22 (see front of hymnal) (The congregation leaves in silence after the reading) 7

Easter Announcement

April 4 – Easter Sunday! It’s been a long year, but thanks be to God that we have been able to start “getting back to normal.” Over the last year, we have tried our best to stay safe and follow the rules. At this time, we feel that we are able to “open up” a little bit more – especially in order to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior. Our Easter Sunday schedule will include 6:30a and 10:15a worship (with 8:00ish pancake breakfast and 9:00a Sunday School activities). We will not be asking worshippers to sign up. Since we are not requesting sign-up, we want all to be aware that we may not be able to alternate pews. Therefore, we are still strongly encouraging the wearing of masks and encouraging the now 3-foot social distancing guidelines between non-household member worshippers during worship. We ask that you use your best judgement in Christian Love on this if you come to worship. (Please be aware that in the past, the 6:30 sunrise service has been heavily attended.) If any of this makes you uncomfortable and you feel it best to not be in-person on Easter Sunday, we COMPLETELY understand. We will still be live-streaming and then posting the worship service to our YouTube channel.
