Units are aware that AIEBA has taken up the matter with the Finance Minister and the GST Council for exempting Mediclaim policy premium paid by the retirees from the purview of GST. The matter has been taken up with IBA who have also represented to the Government not to levy GST on the premium. Since the exemption can be given only by the GST Council, we had asked all our State Federations to contact the respective GST Council Members from their States to follow up the matter and to take up the issue in the next meeting of the GST Council. Today, in Chennai, we met Shri D. Jayakumar, Hon. Minister for Personnel & Administrative Reforms, Govt. of Tamilnadu who is the Member of GST Council representing Tamilnadu Government. We submitted a copy of our letter to Finance Minister and explained the issue in detail. He was appreciative of the reasonableness of our demand and assured to write to the GST Council to discuss the issue. He also assured to pursue the matter in the GST Council meeting. He suggested that we should meet other members of the GST Council in this regard so that the issue gets some momentum.

Mishra (Retd.) attended the 33 rd Statehood Day celebration of the State at Itanagar on 20 th February 2019. The Governor unfurled the national flag and took the salute from the Guards of Honour. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that statehood paved way for speedy development. Today, the central government under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has special focus and consideration for the development of the State of Arunachal Pradesh. The Central Government and State Government under Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu have been putting in their best efforts to electrify every village, provide toilet in every house, road to every village and gas connection to every kitchen. We have achieved a lot in this direction and credit for this goes to every citizen of the State who under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu, contributed in assisting the government and administration for the development in the State, he said. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the constitution of a committee consisting of chief ministers for the transformation of Indian agriculture was indicative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on the growth of the sector. It is to be mentioned, Government of India had recently constituted a high level committee consisting of chief ministers to achieve the target of doubling of farmers income by 2022. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu was included in the committee as a member and today’s meeting of agriculture production commissioners and secretaries of North Eastern States was organised under the aegis of the Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister. The committee will offer its suggestions and inputs for increasing agricultural production of North East region.     P.S. Golay becomes CM of Sikkim News The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) president Prem Singh Tamang, popularly known as PS Golay, took oath as the new Chief Minister of Sikkim on Monday. More in News ● In the recently concluded Sikkim Assembly elections, Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), had beaten the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) and dethroned Pawan Kumar Chamling, the longest-serving Chief Minister of the country. PK chamling served for five consecutive terms since 1993. ● The SKM, founded in 2013, won a slender majority in the 32-member Sikkim legislative assembly (Lowest number of seats) by bagging 17 seats against the 15 won by the SDF. The party is also an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre and thus a part of the National Democratic Alliance. ● However, Tamang did not contest the election to focus on the party’s campaign. Article 164 of the Indian Constitution which allows anyone to become a minister or a chief minister provided he got himself elected to the Assembly within six months of taking the oath. About Sikkim ● Sikkim is situated at the North East of the union. Sikkim became the 22nd State of India Vide Constitution (36th Amendment) Act 1975. ● In 1950 the kingdom became a protectorate of the Government of India vested with autonomy in its internal affairs while its defence, communications and external relation under the responsibility of the protector. ● The kingdom finally opted to become full-fledged State of the Indian Union with effect from 26 April, 1975 vide the Constitution 36th Amendment Act 1975 with special provision laid for the State under article 371(F) of the Constitution of India.
