There are a few studies indentied prevalence of poor sleep quality and its associated factors in nursing home setting. Therefore, our study aim to examine the prevalence of poor sleep quality, its risk factors, and their interactions among Chinese elderly adults in nursing homes. Methods: A total of 817 elderly residents from 24 nursing homes were included in this cross-sectional study. Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and poor sleep quality was dened as PSQI >5. Multiple binary logistic regression was used to estimate adjusted odds ratios (AORs) and 95% condence intervals (CIs) between risk factors and poor sleep quality. An additional interaction model was used to analyse the interaction between risk factors. Results: The prevalence of poor sleep quality was 67.3% (95% CI: 64.0, 70.5%) among elderly adults in nursing homes.

  • Developing the Commons: Models of Rural Land Trust in China
Sociology Study, May-June 2021, Vol. 11, No. 3, 87-97 doi: 10.17265/2159-5526/2021.03.001 D DAVID PUBLISHING Developing the Commons: Models of Rural Land Trust in China Xuanyi Nie Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Cambridge, USA In recent years, experiments on land trusts (xin tuo) have been made in the rural areas of China. To better understand such practice, this research identifies four case studies based on their operational structures and divides them into government-led models and market-led models. The government-led models include the Yiyang Model in Hunan Province, and the Longgang Model in Hubei Province. The market-led models include the Suzhou Model in Anhui Province, and the Golden Field Series Model in Jiangsu Province. This paper compares their profit-sharing mechanisms with specific attention given to the incentives for the villagers. Findings suggest that the villagers’ profits are limited in both models. The government-led models concern less about profits but more on reusing the desolated agricultural land. The market-led models are profit-driven therefore tend to exclude the villagers from the profit-sharing process. Keywords: land trust, rural development, collective ownership, agricultural land, land use rights Introduction The uneven distribution of resources led by national policies in China has created significant economic disparities between the rural and urban. Over the past three decades, the dichotomy between rural and urban in China has been stiffened by the rapidly growing economy. This disparity is further exacerbated by land finance through converting agricultural land to urban land in exchange for fiscal revenue.

Received: 22 August 2018; Accepted: 8 October 2018; Published: 10 October 2018 Abstract: Cultivated land is an important carrier of grain production, and scientific assessing of cultivated land productivity is of great significance to ensure food security. This paper assessed the overall productivity of cultivated land in Yuanjiang city from the perspectives of quantitative structure, spatial distribution and correlation with national land use. We applied statistical and GIS (geographic information system) spatial analysis methods to 16 secondary indicators of productivity. The results showed that the productivity index of cultivated land ranged from 1642.79 to 4140.09, concentrated in classes 2–6, among the most productive of 15 classes in total. The cultivated productivity indexes of most towns showed quantitative structural patterns of “inverted pyramid” and “dumbbell” types. Cultivated lands with high productivity showed a spatial distribution that decreased from the north to the south and increased from the center to the periphery.

Design, Setting and Participants: A cross-sectional study was conducted among the elderly in nursing homes in Hunan Province. Twenty-four nursing homes were selected by multistage cluster random sampling, and 817 elderly residents were investigated using a structured questionnaire. Main Outcome Measures: The main outcome measures included general information, depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, social support, stressful life events and sleep quality. Multivariate binary logistic regression was preformed to explore the risk factors for depressive and anxiety symptoms among the elderly in nursing homes. Results: The prevalence of depressive and anxiety symptoms among the elderly in nursing homes in Hunan province was 36% and 14.2% respectively. Living in a rural area (OR=1.87, 95% CI: 1.22, 2.86), lower monthly income (OR=2.00, 95% CI: 1.30, 3.01), infrequent visits from relatives (OR=3.14, 95% CI: 2.10, 4.78), alcohol consumption (OR=2.25, 95% CI: 1.24, 4.07), history of fall (OR=1.69, 95% CI: 1.15, 2.48), lower social
