BATSHEVA DANCE COMPANY has been critically acclaimed and popularly embraced as one of the foremost contemporary dance companies in the world. Together with its junior Batsheva Ensemble, the company boasts a roster of 34 dancers drawn from Israel and abroad. Batsheva maintains an extensive performance schedule locally and internationally with over 250 performances and over 75,000 spectators per year.

Batsheva Dance Company was founded in 1964 by the Baroness Batsheva de Rothschild, who enlisted Martha Graham as its first artistic adviser, a role that she held until 1975. Ohad Naharin assumed the role of artistic director in 1990 and propelled the company into a new era with his adventurous curatorial vision and distinctive choreographic voice. Naharin is also the originator of the innovative movement language, Gaga, which has enriched his extraordinary movement invention, revolutionized the company’s training, and emerged as a growing international force in the larger field of movement practices for both dancers and non-dancers.

The Batsheva dancers take part in the creative processes in the studio and create themselves in the annual project “Batsheva Dancers Create” supported by the Michael Sela Fund for the Cultivation of Young Artists at Batsheva.

Batsheva Dance Company is company in residence at the Suzanne Dellal Centre in Tel Aviv.

Roberto Diago Known for interweaving elements of his Afro-Cuban roots and involvement with the Abakua (a religious male secret society), Roberto Diago addresses issues of race, slavery, and religion in his artwork. He figuratively incorporates both historical and contemporary references through a variety of materials such as canvas, bamboo, and recycled materials in collages. The use of text and religious symbols brings subjects of the past to the present day.

Diago graduated from the Academia de Artes Plásticas San Alejandro, Havana in 1990 and is a member of the Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC). He has exhibited internationally and most recently particpated in the 2012 Havana Bienal, Queloides at the Mattress Factory, Harvard University, and The 8th Floor. Planned Giving Another way to help BAM prepare for the future is by making a provision in your estate plans. You create a legacy for many generations to come and ensure BAM’s excellence continues for the next 150 years. Existing options for planned giving include making a bequest in your will, and naming BAM as a beneficiary in your retirement plan or insurance policy, among others. Unless otherwise specified by a donor, it is BAM’s policy to apply planned gifts toward its endowment. Individuals who have made such gifts are recognized in the select group of patrons known as BAM Angels.

Our special thanks to the foresight of the charitable BAM Angels listed below.
