CAIRNS SQUASH HITS THE STREETS

Recently the Cairns Squash Club participated in the Cairns Festival

N Parade.

O The Cairns Festival was established back in 1961 with the highlight event being the grand opening of the new jetty on Green Island. D

N “The overriding vision has been to deliver a bright, bold and challenging program spanning visual and performing arts, culture and entertainment O while showcasing the city's key cultural precincts, nurturing local talent and driving tourism “. C

The Festival allowed the Cairns Squash Club to promote our great sport S and the wonderful facilities available at Sportsworld. The message was

E Health Fun Fitness.

L The kids definitely had a fun day promoting squash! U J REDBACKS SQUASH

We had black balloons with yellow dots which were like very large squash balls. Some balloons were tied to our rackets which we bounced as we walked. Many balloons were handed out to kids in the crowd. What a novel idea ... 268Q GattonUEENSL St,AND Cairns Well done Cairns Squash Club! mackaysquash.com

PSA M5 MACKAY OPEN PREVIEW Queensland’s Zac Alexander is set to defend his Mackay Open title he won last year. The 27 year old is in sensational form having already won five PSA titles this year including the recent North Coast Open at Coffs Harbour.

Seeded #1 for the event the World #92 should cruise into the final but will need to watch the foreign invaders who might rise to the challenge.

Keep a watchful eye on Patrick Rooney. Seeded #3 the talented 19 year old from England reached the quarter finals of the World Juniors in 2015 and recently won the Madeira International Open in Portugal beating the #1 seed and World #85 Shehab Essam (EGY) in the semi final.

PSA W5 MACKAY OPEN PREVIEW NSW’s Tamika Saxby is the #1 seed for the women’s Mackay Open. Like Alexander the talented Aussie has already won five PSA titles this year including the recent North Coast Open on her home courts.

The 23 year old has just been named in the Aussie team to compete at the World Women’s Team Championships in Paris from 28 November.

The World #57 should be too good for her rivals but will need to watch Kiwi Amanda Landers-Murphy. The former World #35 is more than capable of a bold showing. She and partner recently won the World Doubles Championship against and Donna Urquhart.
