PHCC vaccinates 5,359 students in eight days THE Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has concluded a vaccination campaign against diphthe- ria, tetanus and pertussis. The campaign was organ- ised for high school students in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health. Community Medicine Consultant and the Head of School Health Department Dr Layla al Dahnaim said the vaccination rate this year rose to 61 percent, with 5,359 students vaccinated in the eight-day campaign in 62 secondary schools. “This increase in the percentage reflects the ef- forts of the School Health Department and the suc- cess of the awareness drive which preceded the vac- cination campaign,” Dahnaim said. The PHCC deployed 50 doctors at schools dur- ing the vaccination campaign to check on students before vaccination and to deal with any emergency cases. In addition, 150 nurses also participated in the campaign. Dahnaim called on those who missed the vacci- nation to go to PHCC health centres, pointing out that receiving the vaccination is a precondition for admission to universities.
