Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Film Review by: Char and Hailey, 12/13/18

The year is 1926, and Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident, were it not for a No- Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt's fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds. Release date: November 18, 2016 (USA) Story and Screenplay by: J.K. Rowling; Director: David Yates (from Official Film Website)

Thoughts from Char and Hailey… -The film is set in the Universe… it is a prequel to the Harry Potter series, and might be hard to follow if you were not familiar with the Harry Potter series. There will eventually be more movies in this series. -Newt Scamander is a Zoologist who takes care of all sorts of magical creatures. He goes to New York and finds a diversity of magical creatures; some creatures get destructive or even destroyed if frightened. Char: thinks that the movie is a bit slow… but that by the end it did get going. Hailey: it helps to be a Harry Potter fan and to know some of the history and references in order to understand and follow the movie. Char: liked the first movie better… it had more action and a better story line. Hailey: the movie visuals and special effects are very good, and Lestranges character development was good… it showed flashbacks to the past where she used to be, compared to where she is now… you could sympathize with her situation. Char: likes the little green creature the best! It was cute and attached to Newt. He looked like a Platypus and Pickett was his name… he likes to collect shiny things, was a buddy of Newt. Hailey: liked the character Newt the best…! Hailey: female characters played a pretty big role in both films. Char: likes Tina, she doesn’t put up with other people’s crap, is resourceful and intelligent! Hailey: thought the second movie was generally good and would like to see it again, but wishes that they did not drop the bombshell about Credence being Dumbledores brother…! This film seemed to make it unclear how many brothers Professor had, thought it was originally just one…. Char: would probably also like to see Fantastic Beasts again…!
