September 3 2019, Issue 669 Pick Six: Label Draft 2019 Seven years ago, Country Aircheck’s Fantasy Label Draft began as an entertaining forum for radio pros to chat about artists and make bold predictions for the year to come. For the first six seasons, VP/GM Chuck Aly served as commissioner and declared winners based upon a method that is just questionable enough to have come from the New England Patriots’ camp, “Chuck’s Eyeball Test.” But this is 2019, and all bets are off. No participation trophies here! What good is a game without a winner? And how do you declare a winner without a score? As a new commissioner takes the field, a painstaking analysis was done to determine a fair- yet-competitive points system, which has been ratified by this year’s ownership group – KUPL/Portland’s MoJoe Roberts; KFRG/ Riverside, CA’s Heather Kind Of A Pig Deal: Premiere’s Bobby Bones, coach Chad Morris, Froglear; KRYS/Corpus Valory’s Justin Moore and singer/songwriter Joe Nichols (l-r) at MoJoe Roberts Kay Manley the Arkansas Razorbacks game Saturday (8/31). • Johnny Cash Returns to ‘Stamping Ovation’ Legendary Singer Is Second Inductee Into Multi-Year Music Icons Series
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: Mark Saunders June 5, 2013 [email protected] 202-268-6524 usps.com/news Release No. 13-056 To obtain a high-resolution of the stamp image for media use only, please email [email protected]. Johnny Cash Returns to ‘Stamping Ovation’ Legendary Singer is Second Inductee into Multi-Year Music Icons Series NASHVILLE — John Carter Cash, Rosanne Cash, Larry Gatlin, Jamey Johnson, The Oak Ridge Boys, The Roys, Marty Stuart, Randy Travis and other entertainers paid tribute to Johnny Cash as he was inducted today into the Postal Service’s Music Icons Forever stamp series at the Grand Ole Opry’s Ryman Auditorium. “With his gravelly baritone and spare percussive guitar, Johnny Cash had a distinctive musical sound — a blend of country, rock ’n’ roll and folk — that he used to explore issues that many other popular musicians of his generation wouldn’t touch,” said U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors member Dennis Toner. “His songs tackled sin and redemption, good and evil, selfishness, loneliness, temptation, love, loss and death. And Johnny explored these themes with a stark realism that was very different from other popular music of that time.” “It is an amazing blessing that my father, Johnny Cash be honored with this stamp. Dad was a hardworking man, a man of dignity. As much as anything else he was a proud American, always supporting his family, fans and country. I can think of no better way to pay due respect to his legacy than through the release of this stamp,” said singer-songwriter, producer John Carter Cash, Johnny Cash’s son.

  • Laura Weber Cash
Laura Weber Cash Laura Weber, raised in Corvallis, Oregon, began to play music at the age of 9. Her dad worked out a trade with a local luthier to restore his old fiddle in exchange for building a two-story deck on the repairman’s house. That marked the beginning of a long musical journey. She soon discovered a special bond with the fiddle. By the age of 12, Laura had developed a love for Old Time Fiddling, winning fiddle contests throughout the Western United States under direction from her teacher, Joey McKenzie. Some titles include the Oregon State Junior Champion, Western Open, Northwest Regional, The World Series of Fiddling Jr. Champion, High Desert, Top Spud, Sierra Nevada Jr. Champion, and the much coveted ‘Benny Thomasson Memorial Award’. "My family was so supportive, enduring the miles, camping and late nights all summer long, to so many fiddle contests, year after year.” At age 17, Laura was titled ‘National Jr. Fiddle Champion’ at Weiser, Idaho, which she credits as one of her proudest moments. In December 1989, later that year, she moved to Nashville, TN to tour with Patty Loveless, singing harmony and playing fiddle, guitar & mandolin. She later made her way to Sakaide, Japan to play bluegrass for a year. Upon returning to Nashville, Laura went back out on the road with several more artists, including James House, Pam Tillis, Harley Allen, and many other new artists. "I was honored to fiddle in Mr. Roy Acuff's show and also appear with Ray Price’s Cherokee Cowboys on the Grand Ole Opry.” She went on to tour with her then future in-laws, June Carter & Johnny Cash.

Tack för allt Marie, The Daily Roxette å tusentals beundrares vägnar. A A. Sarper Erokay from Ankara/ Türkiye: How beautiful your heart was, how beautiful your songs were. It is beyond the words to describe my sorrow, yet it was pleasant to share life on world with you in the same time frame. Many of Roxette songs inspired me through life, so many memories both sad and pleasant. May angels brighten your way through joining the universe, rest in peace. Roxette music will echo forever wihtin the hearts, world and in eternity. And you’ll be remembered! A.Frank from Germany: Liebe Marie, dein Tod hat mich zu tiefst traurig gemacht. Ich werde deine Musik immer wieder hören.
