Yokohama Sites
A-DECK Exhibition space of Constellation γ by TAMURA Yuichiro B-DECK (Former third-class dining hall) C-DECK Yokohama Sites The former third-class D-DECK Entrance dining hall ▼ Yokohama Triennale 2017’s theme and main keywords are Third-class cabin connectivity, isolation, co-existence, and diversity. We refer Engine room Galley to facilities implementing projects and exhibitions linked C-DECK to these keywords, and places and buildings with historical backgrounds as “Yokohama Sites,” which are introduced here. Exit Meanwhile, the artist Tamura Yuichiro combines several sites like stars and creates Constellation γ(Gamma), a narrative with a unique viewpoint. Visitors can view the story Tamura has woven in the former third-class dining hall of the ship NYK Japan Coast Guard Hikawamaru moored in Yamashita Park. Likewise, the ship Hikawa Maru was once a dominant presence on the North Pacific trade route connecting Japan and the United States, but its role was taken over by aircraft. -
Start from いろは (I Ro Ha [Japanese ABC]) Learn Japanese in Naka Ward!
August 1 – September 30, 2011 No. 118 Start from いろは (I Ro Ha [Japanese ABC]) Learn Japanese in Naka Ward! Do you speak Japanese? Of course, even if you do not speak Japanese, you can gather the information you need through the Internet or from Japanese or non-Japanese friends who speak your language. Also, directions in towns and tourist spots as well as publications by local governments are often available in English. However, you can lead a more interesting life here if you learn Japanese and communicate with local Japanese people. This is where the term mottainai (what a waste) fits. Why not take advan- tage of living in Japan and study Japanese? In this column, we will introduce the basics of Japanese to those who have been in Japan for only a short while and who do not know much about Japan. Also, we will provide information on Japanese lessons taught by volunteers. We hope these newcomers will make new friends and acquire new opportunities by learning more about the Japanese language and culture. ● Japanese Classes Taught by Volunteers in Naka Ward , Huxiang Gakushukai Nihongo no Kai Venue: (5) Naka Ward Community Activity Center, Venue: Kamidai Shukaijo There are several Japanese classes in Nihongo Hiroba (6) Furo-cho Area Care Plaza Date: Mondays, 1:30–3:00 p.m. Naka Ward run by volunteers.
