Genie Newport Guilliams, Executive Director Independent Schools of St. Louis 425 S. Lindbergh Boulevard St. Louis, MO 63131 (314) 567-9229 www.independentschools.org ISSL What are the steps in Whitfield’s admission process? 1. Schedule an on-campus family interview and tour. Both parents are strongly encouraged to attend the family interview and tour with their child. The appointment takes approximately 75 minutes and may be scheduled between September 29, 2008 and January 16, 2009. Please call (314) 434-5141 to arrange your family interview and tour. You do not need to have your application completed prior to your family interview and tour.

2. Submit application materials, postmarked by January 15, 2009. A complete Whitfield application includes the following items: • A copy of a completed Independent Schools of St. Louis (ISSL) Common Application (Sections A and B) • Whitfield’s application supplement (Section E), which is attached to this sheet • $75 application/testing fee • Two character references • No forms are required for these recommendations. • Please ask two people from outside your child’s school to write recommendations and send them directly to Cynthia C. Alverson, Director of Admission, Whitfield School, 175 South Mason Road, St. Louis, MO 63141 or to [email protected]. A neighbor, a coach, a piano teacher or a religious leader is an excellent person to ask for a recommendation. Whitfield welcomes but neither encourages nor requires letters from former or current teachers beyond the required Section D; Whitfield asks for two independent, non-school letters in addition to any recommendations from school personnel. • These letters must be postmarked by January 15, 2009. • Whitfield School sends acknowledgement postcards to those writing recommendations so everyone knows the letters have arrived. • Records from your child’s current school. Complete Section C and the top of Section D of the ISSL Common Application and give these sections to your child’s school. Your school will forward records to Whitfield at the conclusion of the first semester or trimester. • We will call you if we are missing any application materials.

3. Plan to attend the Whitfield Open House on Sunday, October 26, 2008. The formal program begins at 3:00 p.m.

4. Mark the Saturday, January 24, 2009 admission test date/prospective parent forum on your calendar. Families that apply by January 15 are automatically registered for Whitfield's admission test and prospective parent forum on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. Whitfield requires that all applicants take the Whitfield admission exam; in addition, families may submit ISEE scores.

5. Whitfield encourages parents who want more in depth information about the School to attend Parent Outreach. Under separate cover, prospective parents will receive a postcard explaining in greater detail the opportunity to spend a morning at Whitfield, talking with current Whitfield parents and teachers and visiting classes. Like classes at Whitfield, enrollment at Parent Outreach is limited to 15. The 2008-2009 Parent Outreach dates are as follows: • Wednesday, October 29, 2008 • Wednesday, January 28, 2009 • Thursday, February 26, 2009 • Thursday, April 23, 2009

6. Students are welcome to spend a morning visiting Whitfield classes. That date may be arranged when parents call to schedule their family interviews and tours.

Whitfield School 175 South Mason Road St.Louis, Missouri 63141 tel: 314.434.5141 fax: 314.434.6193 www.whitfieldschool.org What is Early Decision? Early Decision is an opportunity for students and families who are committed to attending Whitfield to find out early if they have been admitted. Early Decision candidates are the first candidates reviewed by the Admission Committee and receive priority in the admission process. Families indicate their intent to apply under the Early Decision plan on Section E. Only a $75 application and testing fee is due with a child's application.

When are decision letters mailed? Early Decision notifications will be mailed February 13, 2009. If a child is admitted under the Early Decision plan, a $2,500 non-refundable Early Decision Deposit and enrollment contract must be postmarked by February 20, 2009. $1,000 of the non-refundable Early Decision Deposit is a permanent deposit; $1,500 of the non-refundable Early Decision Deposit is applied toward tuition. Only a $75 application and testing fee is due with a child's application.

Regular Decision notifications will be mailed March 12, 2009. If a child is admitted under the Regular Decision plan, a $1,000 non-refundable Permanent Deposit and enrollment contract must be postmarked by April 6, 2009.

Whitfield intends to maintain a wait list as the School does every year, and families will be notified by phone when spaces become available. Whitfield will release students from the wait list after June 8, 2009.

We look forward to meeting your family and getting to know you in the coming months. Should you have any questions or concerns, please call us at (314) 434-5141 or e-mail us. Thank you for your interest in Whitfield School.

Early Decision Option

 I/We are interested in Whitfield’s Early Decision plan.  I/We would prefer to remain in Whitfield’s Regular Decision pool. I/We understand that admission decisions will be mailed March 12, 2009, with a $1,000 non-refundable Permanent Deposit and enrollment contract postmarked by April 6, 2009.

 I/We are undecided at this time. I/We understand that I/we may opt later for Whitfield’s Early Decision plan. Make your request in writing to Cynthia Alverson postmarked by January 15, 2009.
