Presidents Report

VRCBC – You get good food, good racing, nice weather. Can’t get any better. Yes another successful weekend. The entry of cars was down but this seems to be a problem that every race track has to deal with, but somehow the Vintage Club can still put on a great show. Congrats VRCBC from META.

With only two more races left, one in September and one in October, make sure you take your woollies, rain gear, boots, and gloves out of your closet if you intend to have a nice weekend. There is nothing worse than being cold and wet.

What’s happening in November? You guessed right – elections. So think about it. The Prez has to step down as per the constitution of META, three years maximum, so step up to the plate. I think the next two years will be very important for our club’s future.

Yours in the sport The Prez

Vice Presidents Report

Hi all, I would like to thank Roger and Ann for putting on a great BBQ at their place on Wednesday night in lieu of the META meeting. We all had a great time.

I would also like to thank Karen and Andrew for the great time we had at their Annual July BBQ and for the award that I received from them, as The World’s Greatest Gardener. It is a great honor to be given this award, I am going to put it on the wall with my other awards. I would like to thank Andrew for his hard work in putting the Mayday newsletter together every month for us.

The year has gone by very fast with only 2 races remaining. I hope to see everyone out for the last 2 races of the year.

THE RIDE TO CONQUER CANCER PRESENTED BY SILVER WHEATON ANNOUNCES $7.1 MILLION RAISED AS 8TH ANNUAL RIDE COMMENCES IN BRITISH COLUMBIA B.C.’s largest cycling fundraiser draws 1,687 riders, supporting breakthrough research and enhancements to care at the BC Cancer Agency VANCOUVER: August 27, 2016 - The Ride to Conquer Cancer presented by Silver Wheaton announced 1,687 riders helped raise $7.1 million for the BC Cancer Foundation as the eighth annual Ride commenced in British Columbia on Saturday. Funds raised through BC's largest cycling fundraiser support breakthrough cancer research and enhancements to care at the BC Cancer Agency. Overwhelming support from the Ride to Conquer Cancer’s community of riders, donors, volunteers, crew members, and sponsors is advancing life-saving research for cancer patients in B.C. “The experts we support at the BC Cancer Agency are recognized internationally for work in advancing research and enhancing care. Together, this passionate group of riders is fuelling breakthrough studies that offer new hope to patients,” said Sarah Roth, President and CEO of the BC Cancer Foundation. Over 26,000 people will be diagnosed with cancer this year in this province. With the $7.1 million raised, the BC Cancer Foundation will continue to ensure research teams at the BC Cancer Agency have the funds they need to improve treatment and the standard of care for patients and their families. “The Ride is about bringing people together to make cancer a manageable and eventually curable disease in our lifetime,” Roth added. In eight years, the Ride to Conquer Cancer raised over $77 million for the BC Cancer Foundation. The annual event draws thousands of participants and brings together communities of cancer survivors, cyclists and supporters who train and fundraise for months in order to participate in the two-day, 200km Ride between Vancouver and Seattle. “I lost my father, a dedicated Ride participant and former captain of Team CRANKEN, at the young age of 59 in 2013 to stage three bladder cancer,” said Kluhane Leoppky, a six-time participant from Vancouver. “I first got involved in the Ride with my father in 2010, the same year he was diagnosed. His participation in clinical trials at the BC Cancer Agency gave our family enough time to have one last visit with my dad. We are forever grateful for the outstanding options and care he received thanks to funds raised through the Ride. To this day, I participate on Team CRANKEN with a growing number of people, all of whom were impacted by my father’s life and legacy,” Leoppky added. Silver Wheaton proudly became the presenting sponsor of the Ride to Conquer Cancer in 2014. The generous sponsorship allows dollars raised by Ride participants to directly support cancer programs at the BC Cancer Agency. Over 50 members of Silver Wheaton’s team, The Silver Bullets, have participated in the Ride over the past seven years and collectively raised over $919,000. The team is comprised of mining industry members, family, and friends who share the vision of a world free from cancer. “Silver Wheaton is honoured to be the presenting sponsor of the 2016 Ride to Conquer Cancer and we congratulate our fellow riders for an outstanding effort, supporting breakthrough research at the BC Cancer Agency,” said Randy Smallwood, President and CEO of Silver Wheaton, and Captain of The Silver Bullets. “I have been personally impacted by cancer along with thousands of BC residents, employees, friends, and family members, so completing the more than 200 kilometre cycling journey every year has become a mission for me and Silver Wheaton. We are proud to support the BC Cancer Agency and are dedicated to helping conquer this disease with the Ride community,” Smallwood added.

IndyCar announces schedule for 2017 August 25, 2016 By Autoweek Staff

All of 2016's events will return for next season IndyCar’s schedule is out for 2017, and it looks familiar -- and that’s a good thing.

All of the events on this year’s schedule, including the doubleheader street race at Belle Isle Park in Detroit, will be back for next season, a rarity.

The addition to the schedule is the oval race at Gateway Motorsports Park, which had its date confirmed Thursday. Indy cars last raced at the St. Louis-area track in 2003 (the race was won by Helio Castroneves).

The only significant change in the schedule is the moving of the oval race at Phoenix International Raceway to the end of April. This year’s race was April 2, but the city will be hosting college basketball’s Final Four that weekend, and PIR president Bryan Sperber wanted to avoid a conflict.

Next year’s Phoenix race will be April 29.

The 101st Indianapolis 500 will be May 28.

The season is scheduled to start March 12 in St. Petersburg, Florida, and end Sept. 17 at Sonoma (California) Raceway. Five of the 17 races will be on Saturday, the other 12 on Sunday. Television coverage has not yet been announced.

The full schedule:

March 12: St. Petersburg, FL April 9: Long Beach, CA April 23: Barber Motorsports Park April 29: Phoenix International Raceway May 13: GP of Indianapolis May 28: Indianapolis 500 June 3: Detroit street race #1 June 4: Detroit street race #2 June 10: Texas Motor Speedway June 25: Road America July 9: Iowa Speedway July 16: Toronto July 30: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course Aug. 20: Pocono Raceway Aug. 26: Gateway Motorsports Park Sept. 3: Watkins Glen International Sept. 17:

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (August 5, 2016) – The 2017 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship schedule unveiled today in Road America’s new Victory Lane in front of an audience of stakeholders, media and race fans features venue stability – all 12 racetracks that have hosted WeatherTech Championship events since the 2015 season are on next year’s schedule. However, the schedule does include a few notable alterations and date shifts for two events. The event at Circuit of The Americas – which has been run in September since the WeatherTech Championship’s inception in 2014 and also hosted an event in September 2013 – will move into the spring in 2017. In addition, the event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca – which has traditionally been run in late April or early May – moves to September in 2017 as the penultimate round of the WeatherTech Championship. “The 2017 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship once again features 12 of the most iconic road-racing facilities in North America,” said IMSA President Scott Atherton. “These venues have outstanding support from race fans, and deliver exposure in important and strategic markets for our competitors and stakeholders. This schedule represents the stability of our racing platform and a continuation of IMSA featuring the best-of-the-best racetracks and event promoters.” The WeatherTech Championship GT Daytona (GTD) class will compete in all 12 events, while the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class is slated for 11 races. The prestigious Southern California street race will include the Prototype and GTLM classes racing alongside the GTD class for the first time in 2017. Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas will represent Round 4 of the season with all four classes competing in a race into the night on the weekend of May 5-7. The WeatherTech Championship will be joined by three other IMSA-sanctioned series. All four classes return to competition at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin on the weekend of August 4- 6 for the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase. As has been the case since 2015, the WeatherTech Championship GT classes will once again headline the Michelin GT Challenge weekend at VIRginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia on the weekend of August 25-27.

The Prototype, GTLM and GTD classes then return to the west coast on the weekend of September 22-24 for the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix powered by Mazda in Monterey, California at the world-famous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. In addition to the full 2017 WeatherTech Championship schedule, IMSA officials also confirmed dates for four sanctioned test sessions, including two set for later this year. A two-day test for all four WeatherTech Championship classes has been scheduled for November 15-16, 2016 at Daytona International Speedway, followed by a second Daytona test for the Prototype, GTLM and GTD classes on December 13-14, 2016.
