Koocher Soon after arriving in late June of 2013, I found myself amazed by the welcoming climate at the College and the many accomplishments of the faculty and staff that had taken place under the leadership of Interim Dean Jerry Cleland. As the newest academic unit of DePaul, all components of the College faced challenges of continuity, cohesion, and innovation. We forged a new growth model of the College, completed articulation and collaboration agreements in our alliance with Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine Science, and continued to grow. Associate Dean Mona Shattell’s idea of an annual report as a way to showcase our accomplishments has now borne fruit. The report you have in front of you does an excellent job of recognizing our highly productive faculty, hard-working staff, and outstanding advising team, all of whom collaborate effectively to provide an outstanding educational environment. I expect that the College will soon become widely known as a high value destination for undergraduates and graduate students aspiring to productive careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, and the health AN professions. Not bad for a two-year-old! Best, Gerry Koocher LEADERSHIP & HISTORY LEADERSHIP & LEADERSHIP HISTORY College of Science and Health Leadership & History In 2011, nine of DePaul University’s broad and nationally recognized science and math programs networked under a new grouping—the College of Science and Health. The merger allows departments to maintain the caliber of each autonomous program while enjoying the benefits of greater integration between sciences, mathematics, and health studies. The graph below shows the increase in undergraduate, graduate, and combined total enrollment. The CSH became a college of nine departments in 2011; this data reflects the programs’ enrollment growth beginning in 2009, separated out from each department’s former college. Psychology, Health science, and Accounting 177 Biology are all on DePaul’s list of top ten Psychology 150 declared majors for freshmen—and 90% of Health science 130 DePaul freshmen declare a major upon Marketing 112 registration with the university. Biology 97 Finance 92 Digital cinema 91 51% of New Graduate Business administration 86 Students at DePaul are in Political Science 73 the CSH, including 17 new Management 68 DNP (Doctor of Nursing *252 incoming freshment were undecided Practice) students in 2013. 6 FACILITY EXPANSION DePaul’s Science Programs continue to expand in breadth and depth, with new lab space construction beginning Summer 2014. Facility Expansion: New Spaces for Learning in McGowan South and Byrne Hall Summer 2014 will see the beginning of the fourth floor build out of McGowan South and new renovations to Byrne Hall, facilities which house several departments within the College of Science and Health. The Board of Trustees approved funding for the construction of multiple labs, classrooms and office space in McGowan South, slated to be complete by January 1, 2015. Extensive remodeling of Byrne Hall’s Department of Physics space will establish two cutting edge studio classrooms; construction in Byrne Hall will be completed by September 2014. Associate Dean and Associate Professor of Chemistry Richard Niedziela has been the liaison to Facility Operations for the duration of the expansion project. Dr. Niedziela reports that the McGowan South build out will include: a new anatomy and physiology lab, a general chemistry lab, a physical chemistry lab, and a general, flexible lab space; three health science research labs; and two open concept research labs for chemistry and biology. The build out will allow course offerings to keep pace with enrollment increases and provide space for future research. Dr. Niedziela indicates, “This investment by the university in adding additional teaching and research space will allow the CSH to effectively manage its enrollment growth over the next decade.” The teaching labs will be well equipped thanks to Academic Affairs, which provided funds to furnish the new spaces with state of the art equipment, to support faculty research, provide for student research experiences, and create interdisciplinary research opportunities. The instrumentation will give students hands-on experience before they enter internships and the work force, actively applying the learning afforded to them by the CSH. Indicative of institutional support of the sciences at DePaul, these construction projects will direct more resources to the exceptional programs housed by the CSH. 7 FACILITATING FACULTY SUCCESS FACULTY FACILITATING RESEARCH, TEACHING, & SERVICE TEACHING, RESEARCH, Facilitating Faculty Success New faculty hires are well-equipped to succeed at DePaul’s College of Science and Health by participating in a series of monthly meetings throughout the academic year under the New Faculty Seminar program. CEH BECVAR Trinity Advocacy Group | 331-901-5945 | [email protected] Colleen Ceh Becvar is a gerontologist and certified geriatric care manager through the National Academy of Certified Care Managers. Colleen’s 25+ year career of advocating for older adults includes published research on elder abuse and neglect, numerous awards for leadership in the aging network, and a meaningful pursuit of improving the lives of older adults and the disabled. Most recently, her career culminated in co-founding Trinity Advocacy Group, which provides geriatric care management, professional fiduciary services, and elder mediation. Her experience provides clients and families with the resources and support they need to navigate through the inevitable challenges that can accompany aging, disability, or caring for a loved one. Since then, the species has spread to all of the Great Lakes, thriving in the Lake Michigan region and spreading to surrounding bays and rivers. Invasive species are considered to have a high evolutionary potential.

    NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE First Destination Report Class of 2019 Ivan Bohorquez ’19 Accounting: C.P.A., Finance, Economics NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE 2019 First SUMMARY Destination Each year, North Central College publishes First Destination Outcomes for the prior year’s graduating class as one of many indicators of perceived value, student achievement and institutional effectiveness. This annual assessment gathers information about Report undergraduate student employment, service and continuing education within 6 months of graduating with their bachelor’s degree. Results of the survey are used by the Office of Career Development to benchmark against regional and national trends and are sought after by a number of other internal and external stakeholders. The following report includes highlights from the North Central College Class of 2019 First Destination Survey. METHODOLOGY A total of 698 students that graduated between July 2018 and June 2019 were included in this survey cohort. An initial survey was provided to all students by the Office of Alumni Engagement just prior to graduation. Surveys were made available online and in paper format. Career Development followed-up with surveys and research for graduates missing data through December 2019. Follow-up included emailed and phone surveys as well as data sources including student records, alumni records, LinkedIn, and input from parents, staff and faculty. STANDARDS AND PROTOCOLS North Central College has adopted the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Standards and Protocols for survey design, data collection, and trend reporting. NACE is the preeminent national organization focused on the employment of the college educated. These standards and protocols define the terms for each graduating class, reporting categories, timeline for data collection, and appropriate data sources.
