Indigenous Support Services INDIGENOUS SUPPORT CENTRE Our Indigenous Support Centre provides a home away from home to students enrolled in any Red River College program. Here you can smudge, talk with support staff or spend time with friends. We provide access to facilities such as a computer lab, kitchen, study area and lounge. This is also where many of our events, workshops and ceremonies are held.

Our student supports staff include our Elders-in-Residence, Liaison/Advisors, Wellness Counsellors, Wellness Advisor, Navigation Coaches, Academic Coaches, Financial Aid Officer, Transition to Employment Coach, Events Coordinator, Aspiring Student Manager and Transition to Employment Manager, as well as the Director and Administrative Assistant. RRC VIEWBOOK | 11

STUDENT SUPPORTS AND CULTURAL EVENTS We start the academic year off with a Welcome Back Celebration. Throughout the year we host various workshops and ceremonies such as sweat lodge and pipe ceremonies, feasts, drumming circles and other special events. We finish the year with our annual Pow Wow honouring Indigenous graduates.

Throughout the school year we organize guest speakers, arts and crafts workshops, Family Fun Nights, a Student Recognition program, a Come Home for Lunch program, R-Crew Student Volunteer Group, guided tours and seasonal celebrations.

ELDERS IN RESIDENCE We recognize that many Indigenous students who come to Red River College have moved away from their family, friends and home communities, and may need to seek the care and guidance of Elders. We also understand that many Indigenous students want to choose for themselves how to achieve spiritual balance. We are proud of our Elder-in-Residence program, which gives students the choice to connect with the spiritual and cultural supports they feel they need to succeed. The Elders actively participate in special events, classroom activities and in one-on- one teachings and guidance sessions with students. INDIGENOUS LIAISON/ADVISORS Our Indigenous Liaison Advisors can assist you with information on programs, admission requirements, financial supports and other challenges you may face in entering college or transitioning to student life. Our Advisors will be your first contact with the College and they will stay with you on your journey from aspiring student to a proud College graduate.
