AFB/PPRC.26.a-26.b/4 20 April 2020 Adaptation Fund Board Project and Programme Review Committee PROPOSAL FOR INDONESIA (3) AFB/PPRC.26.a-26.b/4 Background 1. The Operational Policies and Guidelines (OPG) for Parties to Access Resources from the Adaptation Fund (the Fund), adopted by the Adaptation Fund Board (the Board), state in paragraph 45 that regular adaptation project and programme proposals, i.e. those that request funding exceeding US$ 1 million, would undergo either a one-step, or a two-step approval process. In case of the one-step process, the proponent would directly submit a fully-developed project proposal. In the two-step process, the proponent would first submit a brief project concept, which would be reviewed by the Project and Programme Review Committee (PPRC) and would have to receive the endorsement of the Board. In the second step, the fully- developed project/programme document would be reviewed by the PPRC, and would ultimately require the Board’s approval. 2. The Templates approved by the Board (Annex 5 of the OPG, as amended in March 2016) do not include a separate template for project and programme concepts but provide that these are to be submitted using the project and programme proposal template. The section on Adaptation Fund Project Review Criteria states: For regular projects using the two-step approval process, only the first four criteria will be applied when reviewing the 1st step for regular project concept. In addition, the information provided in the 1st step approval process with respect to the review criteria for the regular project concept could be less detailed than the information in the request for approval template submitted at the 2nd step approval process. -

Nationwide, sanitation coverage has increased by 9 percentage points since 1990, representing signifi cant progress towards the target of 73% set by the Millennium Development Goal joint water supply and sanitation target. -

A regional revision of the three genera comprising tribe Potheae (Araceae: Pothoideae) is presented, largely as a precursor to the account for Flora Malesiana; 46 species are recognized (Pothos 44, Pothoidium 1, Pedicellarum 1) of which three Pothos (P. laurifolius, P. oliganthus and P. volans) are newly described, one (P. longus) is treated as insufficiently known and two (P. sanderianus, P. nitens) are treated as doubtful. Pothos latifolius L. is excluded from Araceae [= Piper sp.]. The following new synonymies are proposed: Pothos longipedunculatus Ridl. non Engl. = P. brevivaginatus; P. acuminatissimus = P. dolichophyllus; P. borneensis = P. insignis; P. scandens var. javanicus, P. macrophyllus and P. vrieseanus = P. junghuhnii; P. rumphii = P. tener; P. lorispathus = P. leptostachyus; P. kinabaluensis = P. longivaginatus; P. merrillii and P. ovatifolius var. simalurensis = P. ovatifolius; P. sumatranus, P. korthalsianus, P. inaequalis and P. jacobsonii = P. oxyphyllus. Relationships within Pothos and the taxonomic robustness of the satellite genera are discussed. Keys to the genera and species of Potheae and the subgenera and supergroups of Pothos for the region are provided. -

Indonesia (Republic of) Last updated: 31-01-2004 Location and area Indonesia is an island republic and largest nation of South East Asia, stretching across some 5,000 km and with a north-south spread of about 2,000 km. The republic shares the island of Borneo with Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam; Indonesian Borneo, equivalent to about 75 per cent of the island, is called Kalimantan. The western half of New Guinea is the Indonesian province of Irian Jaya (formerly West Irian); the eastern half is part of Papua New Guinea. The marine frontiers of Indonesia include the South China Sea, the Celebes Sea, and the Pacific Ocean to the north, and the Indian Ocean to the south and west. Indonesia has a land area of 1,904,443 km2. (Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia 2002). According to Geoanalytics (www.geoanalytics.com/bims/bims.htm) the land area of Indonesia comprises 1,919,663 km2. Topography Indonesia comprises 13,677 islands on both sides of the equator, 6,000 of which are inhabited. Kalimantan and Irian Jaya, together with Sumatra (also called Sumatera), Java (Jawa), and Celebes (Sulawesi) are the largest islands and, together with the insular provinces of Kalimantan and Irian Jaya, account for about 95 per cent of its land area. The smaller islands, including Madura, Timor, Lombok, Sumbawa, Flores, and Bali predominantly form part of island groups. The Moluccas (Maluku) and the Lesser Sunda Islands (Nusatenggara) are the largest island groups. The Java, Flores, and Banda seas divide the major islands of Indonesia into two unequal strings. The comparatively long, narrow islands of Sumatra, Java, Timor (in the Nusatenggara group), and others lie to the south; Borneo, Celebes, the Moluccas, and New Guinea lie to the north. -

TEUGELS †(2) & Laurent POUYAUD (3)* ABSTRACT. - The validities of two nominal pangasiid catfish species, Pangasius djambal and P. bedado were examined based on morphometric, meristic, and biological characters. Metric data were analysed using principal component analysis. Based on our results, we consider P. bedado as a junior synonym of P. djambal. RÉSUMÉ. - Pangasius bedado Roberts, 1999 : un synonyme junior de Pangasius djambal Bleeker, 1846 (Siluriformes, Pangasiidae). La validité de deux espèces nominales de poissons chats Pangasiidae, Pangasius djambal et P. bedado, a été examinée sur la base de caractères morphométriques, méristiques et biologiques. Une analyse en composantes principales a été appliquée sur les données métriques. Nos résultats nous amènent à considérer P. bedado comme synonyme junior de P. djambal. Restoration planning of degraded tropical forests for biodiversity and ecosystem services Sugeng Budiharta Bachelor of Forestry Master of Science in Conservation Biology A thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at The University of Queensland in January 2016 School of Biological Sciences Abstract Forest restoration has the potential to mitigate the impact of deforestation and forest degradation. Various global policies have been sought to put restoration into the mainstream agenda including under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the program for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+). The Aichi Target of the CBD set a target for at least 15% of degraded ecosystems to be restored by 2020 for key goals including biodiversity conservation, carbon enhancement and the provision of livelihoods. A theoretical framework to underpin decision- making for landscape-scale restoration has been slow to emerge, resulting in a limited contribution from science towards achieving such policy targets. My thesis develops decision frameworks to guide the restoration of degraded tropical forests to enhance biodiversity and the delivery of ecosystem services. In this thesis, three critical questions on how to make better decisions for landscape-scale restoration are addressed by: (a) considering landscape heterogeneity in terms of degradation condition, restoration action and cost, and temporally-explicit restoration benefits; (b) leveraging restoration within competing land uses using emerging policy for offsetting; and (c) enhancing feasibility by accounting for the social and political dimensions related to restoration. I use Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo) as a case study area, as it represents a region that is globally important in terms of biodiversity and carbon storage. -

ON THE ZOOGEOGRAPHY OF JAVA. By Dr. K. W. DAMMERMAN (Buitenzorg Museum) In a paper read before the Third Netherlands-lndian Science Congress, held at Buitenzorg in 1924, the author expounded his views on the zoogeo- graphical relations of the Java fauna to those of the surrounding countries. These views were based upon lists of all vertebratesand the molluscs of Java, with their distribution, which lists, however, were not published with the paper that appeared in the Proceedings of the said congress(lQ2s). In the meantime I found a niimber of specialists willing to revise the various lists or to draw up entirely new ones, so I thought it desirable to publish these lists (see hereafter), which, I presunie, will prove to be a great help to future workers. Although the data now at our disposal are far more complete and exact, the results arrived at in the following pages are not materially differing from those already put down in my previous paper, written in dutch. The list of the mammals has been composed by the autlior himself Mr. BARTELS Jr., a student at the Bern university, made an entirely new list of the birds, based mainly upon the fine and almoït complete collection of Java birds made by his father, Mr. M. BARTELS Sr. He could secure the valuable aid of Mr. STRESEMANN of the Berlin Museum and the result of their coöperation is published separately in the next paper of this volume. The distribution of the Java birds, as entered in the list appended to the present paper, has been compiled by the author with the assistance of Mr.
