8 BLUE-1

Engadine 1 received a Bye

8 BLUE-2

Como Jannali 1: 8 for 136 beat Engadine 2*: 12 for 90

Another exciting game of cricket for the kids with plenty of highlights.

Our first week Lachlan received the trophy for his outstanding all round effort. He bowled 2 for 10 off 3 overs with not one no ball. Lachlan and Bianca paired up for the first time together and top scored with 35.

Week 2 Harry and Ryan put on a 29 partnership. Torin excelled in the field with 2 catches and both he and Kobey took a run out each.

The trophy for Week Two was awarded to Jarrod for his efforts in the field. Despite the loss the team continues to have fun, every single one of them is improving each week. Keep it up.

Thank you to Martin for umpiring and Craig for scoring.

8 GREEN

Engadine 3*: 5 for 101 beat St Patricks 1: 6 for 60

What a great game.

The lads performed brilliantly with several skilful plays throughout the match. Week 1 saw a close match with only 4 runs separating the mighty Engadine green machine from our opponents, St Pats. Excitement was mixed with sadness this match with tributes being paid to Jed’s Great Grandfather following his passing. The boys pulled together and paid their respects on the field by donning arm bands to show their support for Jed’s family (photo).

Batting Corey and Angus were charged with the task of taking the shine off the ball. They batted superbly to get us off to a good start putting on 23. Our 1st and 2nd drops, Luke and Alexander toiled away at the crease to equal the starting partnership of 23 for the loss of only 1 . Well done lads. Next in were Cooper and Callum who both batted with grit and determination. Some good running between wickets saw them amass a total of 20. The final pair of Lucas and Jed batted with flair and courage. Good hard hitting and good running between wickets saw the final pair make a partnership season high of 34. Fantastic work!

Bowling As a whole I am very impressed how much the lads have improved in just three games. Angus’s bowling improved out of sight and he will very soon be a force to be reckoned with. Cooper gave his all bowling with a straighter arm to tie St Pats down to minimum runs. Callum bowled much better getting the ball right up in the “block hole” frustrating the batsmen. Corey bowled with zest and pace taking 2 prized scalps in his “red hot” spell. Luke was very accurate with the ball and concentrated hard to get very respectable figures. Alexander never ceases to amaze with remarkable figures of 2 for 9 including his trademark “somebody stop me” trademark celebration run across the field. Lucas (the birthday boy) steadied the ship with a modest 1 for 7 including a birthday wicket and Jed bowled exceptionally well unlucky not to get more wickets. Keep bowling straight and true and the wickets will come Jed. Top notch cricket lads!!!

Interesting points for game three: First time the team has scored an innings total of over 100 runs Highest partnership total so far this season is Jed and Lucas 34 (including sundries) Jed Wilkinson has not lost his wicket so far this season Coach’s special award for significant improvement – Angus Knight Man of the Match this round – Lucas Mann.

The game was played in the true spirit of cricket by all involved on and off the field. It was truly a great game to watch and Cricket was by far the winner this match. Well done St Pats and well done to our lads, credit goes to you all. GO THE MIGHTY ENGADINE DRAGONS Yours in Cricket, Alex (AJ) Mann Coach

8 GOLD

Engadine 4: 0 for 60 beat Bosco Gold*: 7 for 53

Despite the smoky start to Round 3 the team fielded enthusiastically. Bailey and Balin took 2 wickets each and Noah, Ryan and Will got 1 each. Ben was an energetic wicket-keeper who had great fun diving for the ball. Bailey was also very impressive in not giving away any extras.

Everyone did a fantastic job batting – all the batting pairs scored 14-17 points and no wickets were lost.

The encouragement awards went to Ben and Will. Player of the week awards went to Balin and Luke.

10A

DLS Seagulls 1: 6/249 beat Engadine 1*: 5/198

Again another improved performance from the boys this game but Seagulls were a bit too good for us this game. We had some very good performances from all of the boys, Ty Parkes top scoring with 53, Beau McInerney 41 and Jacob Gunn 38. The boys out fielding and catching improved 100% from last game with Kye Robson taking 3 catches, Aaron Hanlon took his first 2 wickets of the season and Lachlan Brownscombe also took his first wicket for the season. Great effort boys keep up the good work.

Como-Jannali 3: 8/125 beat Engadine 2*: 4/116

12A

Caringbah 1*: 134 & 5/58 beat Engadine 1: 75

We were put into the field by Caringbah and much to their surprise we rolled them for 134 which was a lot less than they scored on our 20/20 game against them a fortnight ago.

Our bowling “Man of the Match” went to Jack with an outstanding 4-9 off 5 overs. Great effort! Backed up by some great fielding by the whole team, with a special mention to Brad with 3-13 off 8 overs, 2 catches and a run out. This guy is Ponting and Rhodes rolled into one. To top off his game Brad topped scored with 34 runs. Well done.

The boys are enjoying their cricket which is great to see and once we can pull our batting and bowling together for the same game I am sure the win will be ours.

Engadine 2: 10/158 beat Caringbah 4*: 9/121

12E

Caringbah 5*: 7/143 beat Engadine 3: 5/81

The boys started well in their clash with Caringbah Sports, bowling and fielding well to restrict the Caringbah side to a modest total. In reply, a quick innings By Nathan Allen got us off to a great start, allowing us to lead by a few runs going into day two.

During the week, a big focus on running between the wickets and ground fielding at training saw us reply well on day 2 with good innings by many of the boys, including a retirement from Hamish Jacka with help from Max, Jake and Lachie.

Our bowling and fielding in the second week was a vast improvement on week 1, with wickets to Ethan, Taj, Jake, and Laythen picking up his two first wickets in cricket. Max, Aidan, Cailin and Angus all had good days in the field. All in all, a narrow loss, but not long until we get to share in dancing Jake’s jig together after a win in the near future!

16A

Engadine 1: 4/220 beat Como Jannali 1*: 144

Round No.3 and up against Como Jannali. Losing the toss, we were sent into the field and Como, after and steady start, began to fire. They knocked the ball about nicely, and tested the field. But, our consistent bowling kept them in check and regular wickets halted their progress. Lachlan had a great day, picking up their most dangerous bat and cleaning up the tail to finish with 4, while Dylan was great support with 3, Josh with 2 and Harry with 1. Como scored 144, their biggest total for the year and the biggest total we have had to chase.

Week 2 and Matt destroyed the opening bowlers. He moved the scored along with ease, and with good support from Jarrod, they had an opening stand of 114 off 30 overs, with Matty scoring 58, while Jarrod scored 32. With new bats at the crease, we rebuilt and then plundered their attack to take our final score to 220. Dylan and Josh provided plenty of entertainment, while Luke and Jack continued the run feast.

It was a solid effort, giving us 3 from 3 and a big game against Gymea next week 1 verse 2.

Engadine 2: 231 beat Gymea Bay 3*: 9(All)/127 & 3/71

Week 1 Won the toss & sent them in. It was good to come up against one of our foes from last season, Bill Rizzi & his team are a great bunch of guys & we always enjoy the game.

Tommy got us off to a flyer with quick wickets in an inspirational spell of bowling taking 3 for 20. A swashbuckling knock of 67 from Jack Gibbons restored Gymea to a solid position at drinks & we needed a breakthrough.

Enter Georgie boy Stivaktas, a fantastic spell of 3 for 15 decimated the middle order putting us back in the driver’s seat. Great support was received from the Wizard who chipped in with 2 wickets & Burnsy who took 1. Stone Cold, Tiger & Dylan all bowled very well but for no reward (might have had something to do with the 7 catches we dropped). Special mention goes to JB who gloved 2 in his centenary game. Only 15 extras this week boys good stuff!! The chase was on 128 to win.

Georgie boy & Stone Cold opened up & both looked solid until one nipped back & caught the edge of Stone Colds bat & the slip made no mistake. George was humming along until he too was removed with a sharp catch. Sting Rae & Mappy kept the score ticking over with smart batting & some good running saw us to stumps & 2 for 70, well played by all so far.

Week 2 Needing 58 Sting & Mappy resumed & were looking good adding 15 to the total before Mappy was caught lofting one over Square leg (good knock young man). Then something very bad happened JB & Sting had a huge mix up & JB was run out without scoring, (I felt for you mate). Tiger strode out & pumped one to the boundary & looked to continue on from last week, but then drove one straight back to the bowler who gobbled it up.

Still needing 30+ the Wizard arrived at the crease (with his twin brothers bat mmmm??). He & Sting played some of the best cricket I have seen from the boys with brick wall defence, fantastic running between wickets & some classic cricket shots. They got us home in style before Sting was dismissed for a match saving 40 (unlucky not to get 50) & the Wizard chalked up his maiden half century (yee ha!!!) in a match winning performance.

The big guns Westy & Dylan sent the ball to the boundary with gay abandon but both were caught out playing big shots. Tommy has also joined the big hitters club with another solid innings with numerous 4’s (not out again). Shoey, short & sweet unlucky to get bowled as the opening pair came back on. Well done guys you earned this one.

Our man of the match was Kieran, but everyone was superb this one. Pizza fund went down to 35 (catching & fielding) but surged back to 50 (batting).

Suresh & Col.

Round 3: Bosco 2*: 287 beat Engadine Dragons 6: 186

Round 4: Engadine Dragons 6: 4/193 beat Illawong Menai 4*: 8/188

The B4's began their one day season with a solid victory to make up for last rounds disappointing loss while regaining first place on the ladder.

After losing the toss and having to bowl we got off to a good start taking some early wickets even after dropping some catches. A middle order fight back from Illawong required something special to break it. This was provided by a tap on catch from Darren Chapman to Mick Grant. Some solid bowling saw us restrict Illawong to 188 with Luke and Reece grabbing 3 wickets each and some great tight bowling from the rest of the boys.

Again our batting started strong with another 70 run opening stand from Matt Barnes (46) and Andrew Regan (43) Luke Richards (12) got another start but was unable to capitalise. The game was

Page 10 11 Engadine Dragons CC – Match Reports

set up by an 81 run partnership from Dane Logan (54) and Regan before a cameo innings from Mick Daly (23) of 7 balls to seal the win in 33 over's and only 4 wickets down.

We are now looking forward to next week’s grand final rematch against St. Pats.
