ADVENTUROUS ACTIVITIES DEFINITIONS

Listed below are 8 adventurous activities and definitions. Your objective is to match the term up with the definition.

Using a map and a compass you would navigate yourself around a set area to find numbered posts. At those posts you would collect codes, numbers or even a stamp. Often involves running as it can be a competition to select the best route and complete the course in the quickest time.

Travelling alongside a rocky coastline. This can either by on foot (often up/down/along) or by swimming. Often involves a jump into the sea from height.

You would sit lowdown, facing forward on a small vessel and use a double- bladed paddle to move you forward. You would pull the paddle through the water (front to back) on one side, then do the same on the other side.

The paddler either kneels on the bottom of the boat or sits on a raised seat and powers the craft through the water with a single bladed paddle.

You would descend a hard surface using a harness and suitable ropes. You would be secured from the top and control your descent.

An individual would use their hands, feet and body to climb up a steep object, be it natural or man-made. This activity can be completed inside or out and depending on the difficulty or severity of the climb, you may require specific equipment and the use of a partner to belay you. If you do this activity at low- level it is known as .

This is a constructed activity based on telegraph poles/trees and platforms. The aim being to travel from platform to platform using the activity, that may be using balance beams, zip wires, cargo nets, hanging tyres, tightropes or even tunnels (to name a few). You will be attached to the safety system at all times.

Standing on a board, you would use a sail to be powered by the wind to move. It would be a balancing act. A combination of two elements, surfing and sailing.
