Wimborne Minster; 5th August – 12th August 2015. Capacity: 10 campers.

The twin towers of the magnificent Minster Church of St. Cuthburga, founded in AD 705, dominate the town of Wimborne Minster. This is a Saxon Foundation, with Norman and Gothic architecture. It is famed for its unique chained library and the Brass to King Ethelred (the only brass in the country dedicated to a King), the brother of , as well as the tombs of John Beaufort, Duke of , and his duchess, the maternal grandparents of King Henry VII of made of Alabaster.

The oldest part of the Minster is the massive 12th century central tower, which was once crowned with a spire which fell during a Service in the 1600, miraculously without loss of life or injury. The rest of the building dates from the 13th and 14th centuries. The west tower is where you can see the famous Quarter Jack – originally the figure was of a monk, but in Napoleonic times it was changed to depict a brightly uniformed grenadier, who still strikes the quarter hours.

Wimborne Minster hosted successful CSV Heritage Camps in 2013 and 2014, and we are delighted to welcome it back in 2015.

• The local area Wimborne Minster is an attractive market town in East . Many of the original buildings in the town centre have been preserved because of the planning restrictions, so Wimborne now contains some of the finest examples of 15th, 16th and 17th century architecture in Dorset. Local attractions include Wimborne Model Town, which is one of the largest and most established model towns in England. The models are an exact 1/10th scale replica of Wimborne town centre as it was in the 1950s. The attention to detail is second to none; even the shop windows display the goods and services which were available to the town folk all those years ago. The model town is set against a backdrop of beautiful gardens, where visitors can sit, relax and enjoy the tranquil scenery. An admission fee applies. There is also the Priest’s House Museum across the road from the Minster and the Tivoli, a 1930s art deco cinema and theatre, where the tradition of showing both film and live stage shows continues to the present day. For information on current events at Wimborne’s Tivoli Theatre, visit www.tivoliwimborne.co.uk
