Schedule Wood Chopping Competition SCHEDULE WOOD CHOPPING COMPETITION 22 - 29 SEPTEMBER 2018 | PERTHROYALSHOW.COM.AU WOOD CHOPPING The Wood Chopping carnival at the IGA Perth Royal Show is the biggest and most prestigious in WA attracting axemen from all over Australia and New Zealand. The modern Perth Royal Show competition was launched in the 1940s and grew from a two day event to the major drawcard it is now. Wood chopping in WA dates back to 1892 when the first competition was staged in Albany. It has its origin as a sport in the days when the timber industry was thriving and much of our infrastructure, including railway sleepers, was made by hand using axes. Those working in the industry had competitions amongst themselves which became popular with onlookers, and soon wood chopping became a spectacular sport. MISSION STATEMENT To expose the sport of Wood Chopping to the largest audience in Western Australia as a means of promotion and entertainment. The first thing that has probably struck you with regard to this Bulletin is the magnificent illustration of the Red Back Kingfisher by wildlife artist Christopher Pope on the cover. Australia is very fortunate to have both a diverse and beautiful range of birdlife. Christopher’s skill enabled him to capture the incredible detail of the Australian Kingfishers issue due out 26 October. I believe this is one of his best stamp issues to date, and possibly my favourite of 2010. Pioneering Natural Value NAB Agribusiness Calendar 2015 The 2015 NAB Agribusiness Calendar celebrates NAB’s ongoing support for natural value. A healthy economy and healthy environment go hand-in-hand, and natural value is all about taking advantage of new opportunities that arise from an increased focus on natural capital and the environment – whether that be water and energy efficiency or advances in pest and waste management. That’s why NAB has established a Natural Value strategy, which focuses on better understanding and managing our own natural capital risks, and backing businesses to do the same. Australian farmers recognise more than anyone the importance of balancing environmental and sustainability concerns with their business operations. There is no shortage of exciting opportunities ahead as we see Australian agribusinesses increasingly taking advantage of sustainability issues that were once considered solely a risk, and leveraging new business opportunities that arise. Having supported Australian farmers and agribusinesses for over 155 years, we understand the important role our farmers play in the progress of natural value. I’m proud NAB was one of the first banks in the world to sign up to the Natural Capital Declaration to build on our understanding of the value natural capital brings to our economy. As we look to 2015, we wish all farmers a prosperous and successful year, and our team looks forward to working with you to take advantage of the opportunities ahead. The organisation was established in 1951 and at this time was formally recognised by the international governing EQUESTRIAN AUSTRALIA body, the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI), for the purpose of Olympic selection to the 1956 Olympic Games. Australia has enjoyed rich success on the international sporting stage since its first appearance at the Olympics, earning itself a formidable reputation for producing world class equestrian competitors. While EA has maintained its focus on high performance outcomes, in recent years it has embarked on new projects and implemented numerous strategies that aim to grow other sectors of the sport. In 2010 the organisation developed seven strategic priorities which would become the focus of the organisation for the forthcoming five years. ‘Creating our Future’ provides a clearly articulated direction for equestrian sport within Australia for 2011 and beyond.
