Gulf Pine Catholic Diocesan Happenings Hancock County Prison Ministry

Catholic volunteers from Sacred Heart Dedeaux, St. Clare, OLG, Holy Family and Most Holy Trinity participate in Catholic services at the Hancock County Jail located on Hwy. 90, west of Waveland, on Thursdays and Saturdays. The leader is Dan Munger from Sacred Heart. Dan has excellent relationships with the administration of the jail, and with Chaplain Tony Graham, who leads Good News Jail and Prison Ministry, an ecumenical organization providing chaplains to America's Jails and Prisons. Two deacon candi- dates, Jim Balentine and Norm Cantrelle, as well as Deacon Mike Harris and Deacon Ed Ramos are volun- teers. Masses are celebrated on Saturdays by Fr. Satish Adhav, Fr. Michael Marascalco and Fr. Michael OʼConnor. This is a fruitful ministry that changes many lives; evangelization efforts at Hancock County Jail result in about five adult baptisms every year. The ministryʼs greatest need is for temporary shelter for female offenders with children once they are released. Contact Deacon Ed Ramos at (228) 323-0765 if you can help with this need.
