THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME November 1, 2020 | 2 Letter from our Pastor

All Saints and All Souls

This Sunday and Monday we celebrate the beautiful solemnity of All Saints and the Feast of All Souls. These celebrations call us to unite our prayers with the Hosts of Heaven and inspire us to seek God. Pope Francis said this about the Saints and Holy Souls, “Saints are the simple, the humble who make room for God, who know how to weep for others and for their own errors, those who stay meek, who fight for justice, who are merciful toward all, who guard purity of heart, who always work for peace and remain in joy, not in hate, and, even when suffering, respond to evil with good.” Let’s ask for the prayers and intercession of all the Saints in heaven. Let’s pray for all the Holy Souls in purgatory. Let’s strive to be saints, to be holy, to be people who daily make room for God and choose the good.

October is the month of the Rosary. I encourage you to pray the rosary as a family. It is a tremendous gift. It may seem like a hard task especially with little ones at home but I encourage you to do a mini-rosary with the little ones. Perhaps, 1 decade with them as that takes only abut 5 minutes, but be sure to introduce the mystery. You can also shorten the decade to only 3 Hail Mary prayers or find images to represent each mystery. You can even make an edible rosary by having chocolate chips or blueberries to eat with each prayer. With older children, you can help them lead the rosary. You can also meditate on the scriptural rosary. Also, grab some supplies and make your own rosaries! Formed.org has a song Rosary for kids that is 30 minutes long. The formed subscription is free for our parishioners.

Wisdom of Saints “Let us learn, first of all, to defend our belief without hating our adversaries, to appreciate those who do not think as we do, to recognize that there are Christians in every camp, and that God can be served now as always! Let us complain less of our times and more of ourselves. Let us not be discouraged, let us be better.” -Blessed Frederic Ozanam, Founder of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 1851

"I understood that every flower created by Him is beautiful, that the brilliance of the rose and the whiteness of the lily do not lessen the perfume of the violet or the sweet simplicity of the daisy. I understood that if all the lowly flowers wished to be roses, nature would no longer be enamelled with lovely hues. And so it is in the world of souls, Our lord's living garden." - St. Therese of Lisieux (1873-1897), Story of a Soul

“Be sure that you first preach by the way you live. If you do not, people will notice that you say one thing but live otherwise and your words will bring only cynical laughter and a derisive shake of the head.”

-St. Charles Borromeo (1538-1584), statue just outside entrance to St. Joe’s chapel
