 Maths and English in Post-16 education GCSEs in maths and English are very important as they will often be an entry requirement for jobs and Higher Education. All 16 to 19 year-old students who have not achieved both maths and English GCSE grades A*–C (4–9) must continue to study GCSE or approved ‘stepping stone’ qualifications in maths and/or English (eg functional skills) as a condition of enrolment onto an academic or vocational course.

To help find your next level, we have divided learning pathways into three general levels, based on your current qualifications.

Some learners, for a variety of reasons, may not achieve good GCSEs including maths and English by Year 11. Post-16 education and training offers the opportunity to learn new techniques and study in a variety of ways to help you progress.
