Sport Articles: 2003 SPORT ARTICLES: 2003 PRG's impressive rugby statistics 10/6/2003 Paul Roos has produced no less than 5 under 18 Craven week players this year: Mark Esterhuizen (centre) Jody Rose (fly half) Allistair Siegelaar (scrum half) Nel Coetzee and Joubert Horn (both locks) This year's Craven week will take place in Wellington from 7 to 12 July. There will also be an under 16 Craven week for the first time. Four Paul Roos players were chosen to represent Western Province - this historic team will be captained by PRG lock Johan Stofberg, son of ex-Springbok captain Theuns Stofberg. The following under 16 players will take part between 30 June and 3 July in Johannesburg: Johan Stofberg (lock and captain) Jacques Southey (prop) Cameron Peverett (loose forward) Francois Bonthuys (scrum half) Paul Roos is considered to be one of the most important rugby schools nationwide. Proof of this, are the following impressive statistics on Paul Roosers who represented South Africa during this year's rugby season: Cobus Visagie (tight head prop - SA against Scotland) Schalk Ferreira (loose head prop) and Nico de Villiers (tight head prop) were in the SA u/19 team that were recently crowned world champions when they won the under 19 World Cup in France. Andries Bekker (lock, chosen for the SA u/21 team to defend its World title in France later this season) If the Paul Roos players excel like this, it stands to reason that their coaches do too: Messrs Frans van Niekerk and Jacques Hanekom are the co-coaches of the Paul Roos XV. Mr van Niekerk has once again been chosen as u/18 Craven week coach for 2003 and Mr Hanekom as WP u20 coach for 2003. Those who are interested in rugby statistics could visit die SuperSportZone at http://www.superschools.co.za WP Kickboxing: gold and silver for PRG 10/6/2003 Heinrich Janse van Vuuren, u/18, has once again established himself as the Western Province kickboxing champion. Heinrich, who has a black belt managed to win first places in two categories. HJ Strauss, also u/18, has a red belt and managed to snatch the silver medal at the same championships. Heinrich and HJ were included in the Western Province kickboxing team. Miscellaneous achievements 4/8/2003 MUSIC Nico-Ben Janse van Rensburg (Grade 11) was chosen for the National Sasol Youth Orchestra. KICKBOXING Heinrich Jansen van Vuuren and HJ Strauss were selected for Western Province to compete in the SA National Kickboxing Championships to be held in Pretoria on 6 September. He will compete in the National Championships on 16 August. PRG Tennis: Cradock Tournament 2/9/2003 The Paul Roos tennis team took part in a tournament in Cradock in the Eastern Cape over the past few days. They played 45 tennis matches of which 37 were won and 8 were lost. In the 3 round robin matches the Paul Roos team beat Cradock's team 8-1, Outeniqua of George 7-2 and Parktown Boys' High 9-0. The Paul Roosers took on Grey College in the semi-finals and although the Stellenbossers beat them in games, and drew in points, Grey won one more match than the boys in maroon. Thus they played in the final against Waterkloof. The PRG team had to play Cradock again, and the final score was 9-0 in our favour. Greenside High School Sports highlights and achievements 2019. Greenside High School believes strongly in the Nelson Mandela quote that says: “Sport has the power to change the world; it has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to the youth in a language they understand. Sport can create hope, where there was once only despair. It is more powerful than governments in breaking down racial barriers. It laughs in the faces of all types of discrimination. Sport is a game of lovers.” We are truly grateful as a school that our learners are exposed to 13 sporting codes and many see themselves having career opportunities in the respective sporting codes that we offer at our school. Even though we were faced with a few challenges in the year, we have also developed and our perspectives and goals have broadened. We would like to celebrate the achievements of our learners this far in all respective codes. SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS AND ACHIEVEMNTS 2019 | s Rugby The focus in every year is to introduce the girls to appropriate technique and develop a safe and competitive environment. They had a very successful league competing with 12 schools and the U16 girls being undefeated in 2019 and our U18 only losing 1 friendly game. Almost all the girls both u16 and u18s were invited to the National Rugby Week trials. Two senior girls unfortunately did not make it in the last trials and three players were chosen for the u18 National Week Team.

  • Sport Awards 2015 Foreword
Sport Awards 2015 Foreword The annual Sports Awards is a highlight of the Western Cape Government’s calendar. The Awards recognise and officially acknowledge the esteemed excellence of sportspeople hailing from the Western Cape. Today, we pay tribute to the exemplary role these individuals have played in the development of sport and motivating others to achieve more. I wholeheartedly thank each sportsperson awarded their prestigious acknowledgement for serving as a beacon of hope to all in the Western Cape. Their perseverance, focus and positive choices have groomed them into significant role-models to whom youth can aspire. Excellence in their respective sporting codes requires dedication, motivation and many hours of practice, but also most importantly support and encouragement from significant others: family, friends, coaches, managers and others. Heartfelt gratitude is expressed to them for their continuous support and encouragement toward our sporting success. • PSA Concerned About Temporary Resettlement of Homeless People in Overburdened Mitchell’S Plain
MEDIA RELEASE Covid-19: PSA concerned about temporary resettlement of homeless people in overburdened Mitchell’s Plain DATE 6 April 2020 EMBARGO None ENQUIRIES [email protected] The PSA, as a Union representing more than 24 500 members in the Western Cape, many of whom are rendering essential services in a variety of key Government Departments, is deeply concerned about the reported placement of homeless people at the Strandfontein Sports Field in Mitchell's Plain, during the COVID-19 lockdown period. The PSA, which represents thousands of employees at Health institutions, the SA Police Service, SASSA and the Department of Home Affairs, is concerned that Mitchell's Plain is already facing a huge challenge whenever there is service delivery protest action and residents of the informal settlement, literally close the area. The PSA supports the need for homeless people need to be accommodated and properly cared for at a site where their exposure to COVID-19 can be mitigated. The concern is, however, that Strandfontein Road is the only alternative route that Mitchell's Plain residents can use should Jakes Gerwel Drive be blocked. Under current circumstances, the risk of protest action is high. Should this become a reality, there is a risk that it will bring Mitchell's Plain to standstill and will prevent service delivery. In addition, a large portion of public sector workers come from the Mitchell's Plain area and a blocking of the area will result in many essential workers not being able to reach their work, will be catastrophic. In addition, the Strandfontein Sports Field is far away from Health facilities, which presents transportation challenges.

And, Allan Gray generously gave us pocket-money for all our shopping. We barely had time to sleep as we chased from one amazing event to the next, to learn more about: the latest block-chain technology; A.I.; how virtual and augmented reality are applied in the operating theatre and to network with entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. We were shown an amazing world of progress and new types of internet that had been created. Trains that could change an eight- hour commute to a one-hour commute using a vacuum and extremely powerful magnets.
