ASEAN Food Trade Forum: Note on Logistics ASEAN Food Trade Forum: Food Security and the AEC TH Hotel and Convention Centre Alor Setar: 24-25 November 2015 INFORMATION NOTE As of 6 November 2015 AIR TRAVEL Unless arranged separately with ADB, the AFSRB Secretariat will book the flights and buy the air tickets for ADB-sponsored participants, including some speakers and facilitators, after receiving the accomplished registration form and copy of passport Self-paying participants will need to arrange their flight to Kedah. Most convenient route is via Kuala Lumpur with a connecting 1-hour flight to Alor Setar, Kedah. Flying via Langkawi is not recommended as it will require land transfer from Langkawi airport to the jetty (0.5 hours), ferry transfer (2 hours), and land transfer to the hotel (0.5 hours). HOTEL ACCOMMODATION The forum will be held at TH Hotel and Convention Centre Alor Setar in Kedah, Malaysia. Hotel bookings for ADB-sponsored participants will be done by the host country while the AFSRB Secretariat will provide them with the list of participants after receiving the accomplished registration forms. Any incidental charges (i.e., laundry, mini bar, international calls, room services, extended stay, etc.) will be on personal account and should be settled by the participant upon checkout. For self-paying participants, please contact the assigned hotel staff, indicating your name, room type, and number of nights (check-in & check-out date). Popularly known as the ‘Rice Bowl of Malaysia’, Kedah is Malaysia‘s biggest producer of paddy. The common sight in the state is vast tracts of paddy fields backed by undulating mountains. Kedah now has become another attractive haven for investors and there are hundreds of hectares of well-developed industrial land throughout the state. According to the 1980 census, Kedah has a population of 1,116,140. Presently, Kedah has 460 primary schools and 86 secondary schools with 275,000 students and 12,000 teachers. The country’s sixth university, Universiti Utara Malaysia, is located in Kedah. DEVELOPMENT AND PROGRESS OF THE KEDAH STATE LIBRARY CORPORATION The history of the State Library dates back 38 years ago when a committee was formed to establish a public library service. But it was only in 1960 that the state government approved RM$45,000 for the establishment of a state library.

    Alor setar experience: surgical outcomes of macular hole surgery with folding method Fatin Nadia Zamawi1,2, Angela Loo Voon Pei¹, Haslina Mohd Ali2, Ling Kiet Phang2 1Department of ophthalmology, Pusat Perubatan University, Malaya, Malaysia 2Department of ophthalmology, Hospital Sultanah, Kedah, Malaysia Purpose: To review the surgical outcomes of macular hole surgery with internal limiting membrane (ILM) folding method in Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah (HSB), Alor Setar. Method: A retrospective study reviewing the functional and anatomical outcomes of macular hole surgery with ILM folding method for all related cases in HSB during the period between January 2013 to December 2018. Results: Thirty-seven patients with purely full-thickness macular hole who underwent ILM folding method surgery were included in the study, with 21 females and 16 males. Ages ranged between 51-74 years. We observed the outcomes of macular hole surgery using folding method based on visual improvement and macular hole closure at 6-weeks and 6-months post-surgery. All surgeries were performed by a single vitreo-retinal surgeon in HSB. Following macular hole surgery using folding method, 31 cases (83.8%) and thirty-three cases (89.2%) showed visual improvement by two or more lines at 6-weeks and 6-months post-surgery, respectively. Hole closure was achieved in all cases (100%) of macular hole surgery using the folding method at 6 weeks and 6 months post-surgery. Conclusion: In conclusion, surgical outcomes of macular hole surgery using ILM folding method in Alor Setar showed 100% anatomical success and majority of cases showed improvement in visual acuity by 2-or-more line at 6-months post-surgery.
