    Palm Beach Community College to celebrate Black History Month with series of events (Lake Worth, Fla. – Jan. 29, 2008) Palm Beach Community College will commemorate Black History Month with a series of musical performances, displays and other events highlighting the contributions of African Americans to society. Events will be held at all PBCC locations. They are free unless otherwise noted. Some highlights are: Throughout February – Palm Beach Gardens • The library at PBCC’s Palm Beach Gardens location will have a display on African American inventors with details on their inventions. Among them are Garrett Morgan whose many inventions included the gas mask and the first traffic signal; Madam C.J. Walker who invented several hair care products and George Washington Carver who invented peanut butter. Library hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Friday, Feb. 1 – Belle Glade • Here & Now… The Legacy of Luther Vandross will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center at PBCC in Belle Glade. Singer and songwriter Terry Steele will bring the music of the legendary eight-time Grammy Award winning Vandross to life in this performance accompanied by a sextet of vocalists and a band. Tickets are $20 for adults, $17 for senior citizens and $10 for children and PBCC students and staff. Tickets are selling fast. Call the Box Office at (561) 993-1160. Wednesday, Feb. 13 – Belle Glade • Sol Griots, a local African drumming and dance group, will perform on the campus patio at PBCC in Belle Glade from 11:30 a.m.
