What should you do with your hands when giving a speech? For many, it feels awkward to simply allow their hands to rest freely at their sides when, in fact, that’s perfectly acceptable and effective. Hands should be used purposefully and naturally to emphasize a point and complement the message. While you might be more comfortable clasping your hands in front of or behind you, or placing them in your pockets or on your hips, those actions can actually detract from your message.
