: Tongji University

Tongji University is one of the leading universities in , particularly known for engineering and architecture. It was founded in Shanghai 1907 as a German Medical School, and was expanded to include engineering in 1912. It is now a comprehensive university with seven disciplines: engineering, science, medicine, management, arts, law and economics. Among its professors are six members of the Chinese Academy of Science and seven members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. It attracts students from all over China, with whom you will study. Tongji has also established links with universities in the U.S., , , U.K., Japan, , , Italy, Switzerland, and South Korea.

Fields of Study: Four of Tongji’s institutes –the School of Economics and Management, the Sino-Italian School, the School of Basic Science, and the International School, offer one semester or a year in Science and Technology and Business and Management. Internships and Service Learning: You will have an opportunity to apply for internships with local multinational corporations, which will enhance your studies and your resume. Social service opportunities with local NGO’s will also be available.

Accommodation: The International Student Service Centers are located on three of the five separate campuses of Tongji University. The rooms conform to international standards.

Program Fee: $9,500 per semester, including double-occupancy accommodation. Estimated additional expenses: International Airfare (round trip) $1,200-1,600; Meals (on campus) $1,000-$1,400; Application fee: $50; Miscellaneous $650.

Excursions: In Shanghai, you can visit the historic Bund, the , with its outstanding collections of Chinese art, and the 400-year-old Yu Gardens. Farther afield, you can visit Suzhou with its world-famous gardens; Hangzhou, home of the West Lake; and the unchanged river towns of neighboring province. You will also spend one week visiting other cities in China.
