11/45 PEOPLE ANALYTICS CONCLAVE

Industries cutting across different sectors and geographical locations are adopting HR Analytics for giving HR policies and practices a scientific and practical approach, rather than being driven by opinions by opinions. National HRD Network, a non-profit organization in association with IIM Ranchi, XISS and SAIL MTI organized People Analytics Conclave on 11th-12th November 2017.

It brought together strategists and practitioners from diverse industries for sharing their experiential knowledge on People Analytics. The Conclave helped corporates in assimilating ideas for applying analytics in designing their people related policies and practices. As successful HR interventions and their alignment with business goals are mostly based on close collaborative efforts between line and HR professionals, large number of delegates from line as well as HR functions participated.

Session: “Setting the tone” Gaurav Marathe, Faculty, IIM Ranchi: Prof. Gaurav Marathe, opened the session by giving an introduction about the specialized tracks to be discussed by the eminent leaders. He discussed that clarity about many assumptions can be brought about with effective use of frameworks. Further he welcomed the speakers, and gave a brief introduction about each one of them. He shed light upon the flow of the session and explained his role as a moderator for the session opening the floor to the speakers.

Speakers : Amulya Sah, Director HR, Samsung Research Mr. Amulya Sah started the session with a question addressed to the audience, “Are you happy to be here?” His light noted introduction made the audience feel comfortable and caught their attention. “There’s a little bit of analytics in every HR’s life” is what he emphasized upon by giving real life examples. He talked about the ‘best of times’ and ‘worst of times’ that can be seen in today’s age pertaining to influx of technology in our lives. He quickly shifted to the question, “Why people analytics, isn’t financial data not enough?” As an answer to this very question he brought in the facts that in the recent future almost 5 generations of people will work together, 50 million jobs will get replaced by robots, gig economy will be disrupt the way organizations function, leaders will be chosen by team members and not top management, there will be a shift from outsourcing to crowdsourcing.

12 / 45 Session: Analytics & Reward Management

Amitabh Bhattacharya, SAIL

The session was chaired by Mr. Amitabh Bhattacharya who welcomed the audience and introduced the speakers for the track ‘Analytics and Reward Management’. He then shared his thoughts on reward citing that ‘Reward is as important as recruitment and compensation’. It was pointed out that rewards can be task oriented, group oriented and it can be a motivator for people to go beyond their responsibilities and take that extra initiative. As mentioned by the speaker, analytics can only help bring a more scientific approach to designing and delivering rewards. Also, between the public sector and private sector there is a huge difference in the way rewards are given and thus there is a difference in retention of talent overall. He thus pointed out that even during recruitment, people discuss about reward process and this affects their perception of the job. The discussion ended on the note that the conclave has been an eye opener and thereby an immense learning curve for all. The floor was then opened for discussion.
