Brief Industrial Profile Of Imphal East District

General Characteristics of the District:

1.1 Location & Geographical area: Imphal east District came into existence on the 18th june 1997 when the erstwhile was bifurcated into two districts namely, (i) Imphal West and (ii) Imphal east district. The district is bounded in the north by district, in the east by district, in the south by and in the west by . Situated at latitude of 24.48o N and 25.30o N and longitude of 93.57o Eto 94.15O E longitude, Imphal West District covers nearly 32% of the area of Valley. The District is connected with all other valleys, hill districts and other States by State Highways and National Highways and also linked by air with Silchar, Guwahati, Dimapur, Calcutta, Delhi, etc. Dimapur, the nearest rail head is at a distance of 211 km from Imphal. Temperature of the District ranges from 0.0O C to 35O C. Climatic condition is salubrious and monsoon tropical. Average rainfall in the District is 600 mm and it gets rainfall from South-West Monsoon. 1.2 Topography: The district has a rich and varied vegetation and the climatic conditions are suitable for various flora and a wide variety of medicinal plants are grown. And the lakes and marshy lands of the valley are a favourite habitat of a variety of migratory birds. The district by and large is plain in nature and rice is the principle crop grown.
