Taiko literally means ‘big drum’ in Japanese. Taiko Practise your drumming skills with drumming has been an important part of Japanese culture Jared of Tengu Taiko for hundreds of years. Its origins lie in the many temples in Mr Wood’s and shrines throughout Japan where they are played Classroom. during ceremonies and festivals. 10 points! Throughout history taiko drums have also been used in kabuki and teate, dance and music. It is only since the 1950s that taiko has become a performing art in itself known as ‘kumi daiko’, and spread troughout te world with te help of professional turing groups like Ondekoza and Kodo. Japan currently has between 10,000 - 15,000 taiko groups playing many different stles.

Taiko performances use different stles and sizes of Japanese drum (wadaiko). Tese can also be played in many different positons and ways. Playing taiko isn’t just about hiting a drum to make a sound, it involves body movement, balance, energy, stamina, co-ordinaton, self contol, self awareness and units mind, body and spirit akin t many martal arts.

Ramune is a carbonatd originaly sold in Japan which was intoduced in by Alexander Cameron Sim.
