Travel in Kensington and Chelsea will be affected on Sunday 4 August 2013 Plan ahead for an easier journey on Sunday 4 August

Two major cycling events will be taking place in Kensington and Chelsea on Sunday 4 August, as part of the Prudential RideLondon festival.

There will be a significant impact on local traffic, with a number of road closures, bus diversions and parking restrictions in affected areas, so you will need to plan your travel around the area in advance.

The information here will help you understand how your journeys could be affected.

About the events Prudential RideLondon is a new world-class annual weekend cycling festival, developed by the Mayor of , London & Partners and , in partnership with County Council.

The event is managed by the London & Surrey Cycling Partnership.

2 On 4 August, the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 will see 20,000 amateur cyclists tackle a 100-mile route between the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Surrey.

Riders are expected to pass through Kensington and Chelsea between 06:25 and 09:10 and again between 09:55 and 16:55 on their return to central London.

150 of the world’s best professional cyclists will compete in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic, on a route similar to the London 2012 Olympic Cycle Road Race. The cyclists are expected to pass through the area between 13:05 and 13:20 and again between 17:35 and 18:00.

Other Prudential RideLondon events will also take place in central London on Saturday 3 August.

3 Road closure and re-opening times

The event route and some surrounding roads in your borough will be closed to traffic from 05:00 onwards on 4 August. Local access will be maintained for as long as possible, while access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

All roads will be re-opened as soon as it is safe to do so, although estimated road re-opening times are shown opposite:

5 Travel advice during the events

Road users You are advised to avoid driving in areas around the routes if at all possible. However, if you intend to drive, please plan ahead and allow more time for your journey. Key points to note include:

• The A4 will form part of the event route and will be closed in both directions between Hyde Park Corner and Warwick Road until mid-afternoon. The westbound carriageway will also be closed to Hogarth roundabout

• The route back towards the finish atThe Mall includes King’s Road, Cheyne Walk and Chelsea Embankment – these roads will be closed and vehicle access will be restricted in the surrounding area

• Battersea, Albert and Chelsea Bridges will be closed from 07:30 onwards

• Hyde Park Corner will be closed from 04:00 until mid-afternoon – local access will be maintained, although will not be possible from Piccadilly or Knightsbridge

Walking and cycling may be the easiest way to get around your local area. There will be crossing points along the route for pedestrians and cyclists, while footways alongside closed roads will be open as normal to ensure that pedestrian access to properties isn’t affected.

There will also be road closures in central London on 3 August for other Prudential RideLondon events. Avoid driving in the area if possible.

8 Travel advice during the events

Parking Parking along the route will be suspended on the day. If you usually park on an affected road, you should move your vehicle elsewhere the night before, otherwise it may be removed.

Public transport There are no planned rail or London Underground closures in your area on 4 August.

Some bus services will need to be diverted, temporarily suspended or terminate earlier than their usual destination as a result of the road closures. Some stops will also be temporarily relocated or suspended.

Please leave more time for bus journeys on the day and plan ahead to understand how your route may be affected. Information will be available nearer the time at affected bus stops and from tfl.gov.uk

Some Barclays Cycle Hire docking stations will also be suspended over the weekend because of their proximity to the event routes. Visit tfl.gov.uk for more information.
