The new species inhabits open lowland forest in southwest Amazonia in Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia. It is closely related to a Bolivian species tentatively identified as Rhinella cf. paraguayensis. Both the new species and R. paraguayensis share an uncommon breeding strategy among their Amazonian congeners: each breeds in moderate to large rivers instead of small streams or ponds formed by rainwater. The new species is easily differentiated from other members of the R. margaritifera species group by having a strongly developed bony protrusion at the angle of the jaw, a snout–vent length of 63.4–84.7 mm in females and 56.3–72.3 mm in males, well-developed supratympanic crests with the proximal portion shorter than the parotoid gland in lateral view, a divided distal subarticular tubercle on finger III, and multinoted calls composed of groups of 7–9 pulsed notes and a dominant frequency of 1,012–1,163 Hz. Recent studies have shown that the upper Madeira Basin harbors a megadiverse fauna of anurans, including several candidate species. This is the first member of the R. -

ABSTRACT Snakes in the genera Xenodermis Reinhardt, 1836 and Achalinus Peters, 1836 were reviewed. Regional variants of the putative species X. javanicus Reinhardt, 1836 were found to be sufficiently divergent to warrant being treated as full species. Other genera within the Xenodermidae were also reviewed. The species currently known as Achalinus meiguensis Hu and Zhao, 1966 was found to be sufficiently divergent both morphologically and by molecular analysis from other Achalinus Peters, 1869 species to warrant being placed in a separate genus. Stoliczkia Jerdon, 1870 currently contains two species that are divergent geographically and to a lesser extent morphologically and well separated by habitat. Therefore one is transferred to a new subgenus. As a result this paper formally names three new species of Xenodermus, namely X. oxyi sp. nov., X. crottyi sp. nov. and X. sloppi sp. nov., a new monotypic genus Fereachalinus gen. nov. and a new subgenus within Stoliczkia, namely Parastoliczkia subgen. nov.. The male individual was found in the Yen Bai Province of northwestern Vietnam, more than 200 km from the type locality in Lai Chau Province. Genetic divergence between the newly-collected male and the holotype was low (1.7%), and is in agreement with morphological data that supports that they are conspecific. -

The results provide the first molecular genetic test of and support for the monophyly of Xylophis. Our phylogenetic results support the findings of a previous, taxonomically restricted phylogenomic analysis of ultraconserved nuclear sequences in recovering the fossorial Xylophis as the sister taxon of a clade comprising all three recognised extant genera of the molluscivoran and typically arboreal pareids. The split between Xylophis and ‘pareids’ is estimated to have occurred on a similar timescale to that between most (sub)families of extant snakes. Based on phylogenetic relationships, depth of molecular genetic and estimated temporal divergence, and on the external morphological and ecological distinctiveness of the two lineages, we classify Xylophis in a newly erected subfamily (Xylophiinae subfam. -

Trong số đó có 41 loài bị đe dọa ở mức toàn cầu và 36 loài ở mức quốc gia. Kết quả nghiên cứu cập nhật bổ sung phân bố của 48 loài (20 loài lưỡng cư, 28 loài bò sát) cho khu vực Bắc Trung Bộ so với công bố năm 2009 của Nguyen Van Sang, et al.
