Brother and sister duo, Dakota Laden and Chelsea Laden, and best friend Tanner Wiseman, along with camera operator Alex Schroeder, confront their fears once again, as they pile into their RV and hit the road on a nail-biting cross-country journey to pursue paranormal evidence, spending the night inside America’s most haunted abandoned buildings. Lured by the unknown and with a greater understanding of fear, the crew explores a whole new set of abandoned locations with grim histories – only this time the destinations remain a surprise, not just to Chelsea and Tanner, but to Dakota as well, as they each take turns picking a haunted hot spot, challenging each other in unique ways. [Hour-long episodes] SEASON PREMIERE: “Nopeming Sanatorium” – Premieres Wednesday, April 29 at 10 p.m. ET/PT Dakota Laden surprises Chelsea Laden and Tanner Wiseman by taking them back to where it all began: Nopeming Sanatorium in Duluth, Minnesota, a frightening location that loomed menacingly near their childhood homes. Dakota has been itching to investigate this 118-year-old building for years, but never had the courage to set foot inside. The site of 1,500 deaths, Nopeming’s history runs rampant with murder, suicide and sinister spirits. Now, the team will finally confront their childhood fears as they explore and spend the night inside one of Minnesota’s most paranormally active locations. What happens to the group during their overnight is an experience they will never forget, replete with poltergeist activity and a chilling encounter with the disturbed spirit of a former maintenance man. “Yorktown Memorial Hospital” – Premieres Wednesday, May 6 at 10 p.m. ET/PT The team investigates a Texas hospital with a gruesome history, including a brutal double homicide. Once under the direction of Catholic nuns, the abandoned building’s chapel may house a demonic entity with its sights set on Dakota. NEW EPISODES GHOST NATION Jason Hawes, Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango are back for more adventures to the other side in a new season of “Ghost Nation.” This season’s locations have bigger mysteries, are more chilling and have never been investigated on television. And this time, they are calling in an old friend for some help – paranormal investigator Shari DeBenedetti. On all investigations, collecting evidence is just the beginning. With the help of their local contacts, they’re going to embed themselves in the community, conducting multi-day investigations in an effort to track down the true source of these hauntings and restore peace to the living. Under the United Paranormal Research Organization (UPRO) banner, local paranormal groups will join the team as they employ new devices and techniques for confronting and questioning spirits. They’ll do whatever it takes to entice the ghost into telling its story and stop at nothing to get to the bottom of the paranormal phenomena. [Hour-long episodes] “An Unholy Haunting” – Premieres Wednesday, April 29 at 9 p.m. ET/PT Jason Hawes, Steve Gonsalves, Dave Tango and Shari DeBenedetti head to Waynesville, Ohio, to investigate claims of paranormal activity at a former Catholic church. The team suspects a disgraced priest may be behind the scratches, bizarre apparitions and chilling EVPs. “Prison Poltergeist – Premieres Wednesday, May 6 at 9 p.m. ET/PT Jason Hawes, Steve Gonsalves, Dave Tango and Shari DiBenedetti investigate reports of electrical anomalies, shadow figures and disembodied voices at the Mid-Orange Correctional Facility in Warwick, New York. The team calls for backup when blueprints reveal just how vast the property is. PARANORMAL 911 A shocking number of 911 emergencies end in paranormal encounters. “Paranormal 911” explores these events through eyewitness accounts of the first responders who lived through them – real-life stories of police, firefighters and paramedics who arrive on scene, only to find themselves in the middle of a paranormal event. As first responders, it’s their job to put themselves in the line of danger – sometimes with terrifying and unexplainable results. [Hour-long episodes] “Campus Cult and Eye Contact” – Premieres Saturday, May 2 at 9 p.m. ET/PT Campus police uncover disturbing evidence of dark satanic rituals in an abandoned dorm, and the ghost of a teenage car accident victim follows a firefighter home. “Basement Dweller, Do Not Resuscitate and Children of the Barn” – Premieres Saturday, May 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT A dark entity attacks a security guard in the basement of a nursing home, an EMT has a chilling encounter with a dying man and a paramedic hears ghostly children playing in an old barn. MY PARANORMAL NIGHTMARE (U.S. Premiere) Paranormal witnesses recount terrifying true tales of violent hauntings that have plagued their nightmares since childhood. Now adults, they go back in time to the horrific encounters with compelling first-person testimonies. [Hour-long episodes] “Haunted Calling” – Premieres Saturday, May 2 at 10 p.m. ET/PT Ghost hunters share the stories that led them to a career in the paranormal. A child's game opens a portal to hell, a budding psychic medium stands up to the spirit of an angry man and a young girl is terrified by nightly visits from a horned demon. “Lost Souls” – Premieres Saturday, May 9 at 10 p.m. ET/PT Lost souls terrify the living as they look for a way to cross over into the afterlife. GHOST ADVENTURES In each episode of “Ghost Adventures,” Zak Bagans and Aaron Goodwin, along with A/V techs Billy Tolley and Jay Wasley, travel to a different haunted destination where they meet with locals, eyewitnesses and experts in an attempt to piece together the haunted history of each site. They then begin their “lockdown” investigation, using the latest scientific gadgets and technology in an effort to obtain physical evidence of the paranormal and uncover the truth behind each haunted mystery.     Cinematic Ghosts: Haunting and Spectrality from Silent Cinema to the Digital Era. Edited by Murray Leeder. Bloomsbury Academic, 2015 (307 pages). Anton Karl Kozlovic Murray Leeder’s exciting new book sits comfortably alongside The Haunted Screen: Ghosts in Literature & Film (Kovacs), Ghost Images: Cinema of the Afterlife (Ruffles), Dark Places: The Haunted House in Film (Curtis), Popular Ghosts: The Haunted Spaces of Everyday Culture (Blanco and Peeren), The Spectralities Reader: Ghost and Haunting in Contemporary Cultural Theory (Blanco and Peeren), The Ghostly and the Ghosted in Literature and Film: Spectral Identities (Kröger and Anderson), and The Spectral Metaphor: Living Ghosts and the Agency of Invisibility (Peeren) amongst others. Within his Introduction Leeder claims that “[g]hosts have been with cinema since its first days” (4), that “cinematic double exposures, [were] the first conventional strategy for displaying ghosts on screen” (5), and that “[c]inema does not need to depict ghosts to be ghostly and haunted” (3). However, despite the above-listed texts and his own reference list (9–10), Leeder somewhat surprisingly goes on to claim that “this volume marks the first collection of essays specifically about cinematic ghosts” (9), and that the “principal focus here is on films featuring ‘non-figurative ghosts’—that is, ghosts supposed, at least diegetically, to be ‘real’— in contrast to ‘figurative ghosts’” (10). In what follows, his collection of fifteen essays is divided across three main parts chronologically examining the phenomenon. Part One of the book is devoted to the ghosts of precinema and silent cinema. In Chapter One, “Phantom Images and Modern Manifestations: Spirit Photography, Magic Theater, Trick Films, and Photography’s Uncanny”, Tom Gunning links “Freud’s uncanny, the hope to use modern technology to overcoming [sic] death or contact the afterlife, and the technologies and practices that led to cinema” (10).

Kinane joked that he thinks "the only people who believe in poltergeists are people who don't have any real-world problems," and following that statement, he states that believing in ghosts and engaging in paranormal culture is stereotypically "white" (0:39-1:20). The parallel drawn between daily life andthe topic of race is referredto as privilege, and Kinane insinuates that white privilege leaves an individual with a significant amount of free time and resources to engage in seemingly illogical beliefs, such as ghosts; however, ghost hunting reality television lends itself to more thanboredom, as it is a new and exciting genre specific to the 21st century. In this thesis, ghost hunting reality television is explored and recognized as a cultural artifact. Born from the combination of secular methodology, religion, and technology, an unlikely and obscure genre explodes from obscurity to popular culture to such a degree that tier one celebrities, such as Post Malone, guest star on longstanding ghost hunting reality show Ghost Adventures (2008-present).
