Unlike similar matches throughout history, however, this event featured the heavyweight world champion, Muhammad Ali, and the most KEYWORDs popular Japanese professional wrestler of the day, Antonio Inoki. Investigating this event through the lens of applied linguistic Boxing, wrestling, Muhammad anthropology reveals much about the contextual social dynamics Ali, Antonio Inoki, linguistics at play. Sources including newspaper reports, interviews with witnesses and those involved, and private correspondence are considered as they unveil the complicated truth behind Ali vs. Inoki, the fight that marked a turning point in the career of CITATION history’s most celebrated boxing champion. By age 15, he had traveled down a hard road, becoming a mugger and brawler on the hard streets of Houston’s 5th ward. Fortunately for him, he was saved by Lyndon Johnson's Job Corps program, which helped troubled kids and he traveled to California, where he met Job Corps counselor and boxing coach Doc Broaddus, who encouraged Foreman to become a fighter. Once he began to train at the gym, Foreman rapidly established an impressive amateur record. The culmination of his amateur boxing career came at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, where he won a gold medal in his 25th amateur fight. Brandishing an American flag after his win, he later said "I wanted everyone in the world to know I was an American and proud of the opportunity that I was given to do what I had done." In 1969, Foreman turned professional. Within two years, he was ranked the No. 1 challenger by the WBA and WBC and by 1972, he amassed an impressive record of 37 wins (most by knockout) and no losses. Foreman got his shot at the world heavyweight championship when he was scheduled to fight Joe Frazier in Kingston, Jamaica in 1973.

The opportunity, in the words of Arnold Glasgow, to see “the past returning through another gate” proved both pugilistically impossible, and promotionally irresistible, to those streaming into this fandango’s ppv Big Top. While setting new monetary returns , and plumbing familiar fiduciary lows, this plodding denouement set to the tune of a golden oldie (with a Zoloft remix) broke no new ground in the fields of promotional sleight-of-hand. For practitioners of nostalgia as balm in recasting the world’s wrongs, two partners of not-so-long-ago piloted a short (in number of bouts, near its end it seemed interminable), crownless career into pride of place among the carnies, barkers and pitchmen, in the Art of the Draw. Gerry Cooney’s career was piloted by Mike Jones and Dennis Rappaport. Dubbed the Wacko Twins, Mike and Dennis comported themselves like Hollywood Kamikaze pilot parodies but their effectiveness was more akin to those of the sons of the Rising Sun at Pearl. They scored a number of direct hits among the prevailing powers of box- iana.
