(Hons) & Self Financing Courses Profile : Patna Science College is a single faculty college and one of the prestigious institutions of India. It is situated on the bank of holy river the Ganga. The College is maintaining its past glory. It is indeed an institution par-excellence in Patna University and is imparting Co-education in the Faculty of Science. The College is serving the state from various angles and is unique institution of Science where students from Bihar, U.P., West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Orissa, Assam and foreign students from neighbouring countries come and get quality education. Bright students and qualified teachers are the basis of high ranking of Patna Science College. Teachers of the College are not only imparting the quality education but also helping students in improving their personality. The discipline in the College is a subject of jealousy for others. The cordial relationship between teachers and students is the pillar for the peaceful atmosphere of Patna Science College. The College is imparting Honours teaching in Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology. In the light of recent developments in the field of Science, the College has started, 3 Self-financing courses – BCA, Biotechnology and Environmental Science. The result of the students is always excellent. The teachers remain busy in teaching and research. Several research papers have been published in National and International Journals by them. Many students got their Ph.D. degree under their guidance. The College organizes annual sports in January or February each year. Boys and girls regularly participate in debate and chart model exhibitions. A placement cell was established in 2005 under the convenership of Dr. Atul Aditya Pandey. The Cell organizes placement by various companies in which students of traditional and self-financing courses participate and get selected. Hostels : There are 5 hostels of Patna Science College – Faraday House, Cavendish, Newton, C.V. Raman and Ramanujam. The basis of admission in hostel is merit. Students of self-financing courses are also provided hostels. There is mess and common rooms facilitiy. Newspapers and Magazines are supplied to each hostel. To provide safe drinking water, water ANNUAL REPORT 2016-2017 PART - III 131 PATNA UNIVERSITY purifier and water cooler have been installed in each hostel and department. The College provides accommodation to 300 male students. We have no hostels for girls. Library : The College has a spacious library in which there are more than 70,000 books. It was established in 1937. We need two more large rooms – one for teachers, one for students and another for office. This problem should be solved at once so that students can derive maximum benefits. The Government of Bihar has established e-library in Patna Science College. It is fitted with A/C reading room and several computers. Journal and College Magazine : The College is publishing the College Magazine and a research Journal of Patna Science College (ISSN 2347-9604) from December 2013. College Magazine 'Navnirman' was released in August 2016 by Sri Ashok Choudhary, Hob'ble Education Minister, Govt. of Bihar. Journal of Patna Science College Vol. 4, 2016 was released on Jan 25, 2017 by Prof. Arun Kumar Sinha, Prof. U.K. Sinha, Prof. S.K. Srivastava and others.
