OPENING REMARKS: IQAC of the college is dedicated to the improvement of the quality of Teacher Education and to keep pace with global trends. Pass outs of the Malwa Central College of Education are working in different countries. IQAC is working to keep pace with the Global trends of Education. The college is approved Research centre of faculty of Education Panjab University, since 2012-13 session. NOMINATIONS AND RECOGNITIONS:  Dr. Tarlok Bandhu was elected member of Panjab University Senate from the constituency of staff of Technical and Professional Colleges on 12th September, 2012 and member of Syndicate on 23rd December, 2012.  Dr. Sukhdev Singh Sandhu was nominated as member of Selection Committee, Panjab University Team (Men & Women) and as Kabaddi official by Panjab Technical University.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES: Pre-Ph.D. Course College was approved as research centre by Panjab University, Chandigarh and first Pre- Ph.D. Course was conducted January to June 2013 which was attended and completed by 15 research scholars.

ADMISSIONS: The college provides instruction in Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and Master of Education (M.Ed.) courses of Panjab University, Chandigarh. The admission to the B.Ed. course for session 2012-2013 was done through Centralized Online Counselling process and on the basis of merit in qualifying examination as per the rules of Panjab University,

1 Chandigarh and the admission to M.Ed. course was done on the basis of entrance test conducted by Panjab University, Chandigarh. 70% of the total number of seats of B.Ed. in this college is offered to girls who are always at a disadvantage academically, having been educated in rural areas. The Government of has already issued a notification to this effect.

a) STUDENT ORIENTATION PROGRAMME:

Orientation of B.Ed. students was done from 13 August 2012 to 17 August 2012.

b) TEACHING LEARNING PROCESS:  Demonstration lessons by the teachers for B.Ed. students were delivered from 18/10/12 to 20/10/2012.  Discussion lessons of B.Ed. students in both their teaching subjects were held from 9/01/2013 to 11/01/2013. HOUSE EXAMS:  First house examination of B.Ed. and M.Ed. were held from 4/12/2012 to 14/12/2012.  Second house examinations of B.Ed. and M.Ed. were held from 9/3/2013 to 25/4/2013. INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:  Teaching Practice of B.Ed. students I phase from 31 October 2012 to 30 November 2012 and II phase from 30 April 2013 to 15 May 2013. Students were sent to 16 (Government and Government –aided) schools selected from Ludhiana along with their teacher incharge.

EXAMINATION:

3  First house examination of B.Ed. and M.Ed. was held from 06/12/2012 to 19/12/2012.  Second house examination of B.Ed. and M.Ed. was held from 09/03/2013 to 25/03/2013  Internal Practices of B.Ed. were held from 16/05/2013 to 18/05/2013.  Final examinations of B.Ed. were held from 4/4/2013 to 29/4/2013  Final examinations of M.Ed. were held from 6/4/2013 to 29/4/2013  Final skill examination in teaching of B.Ed. students 20/05/2013 to 22/05/2013.

RESULTS: The students of 2011-2012 session who are present in the pandal today, waiting to receive their degrees deserve a resounding applause for the commendable results. 247 B.Ed. students appeared for the Annual examination of Panjab University, Chandigarh. All got first division and 2 students got above 80%. Shradha bagged first position in the college by securing 898 marks. Puneet Kaur bagged second position in the college by securing 889 marks. In the annual M.Ed. examination of Panjab University, 32 students appeared. All got first division. 3 students secured above 80% marks. Harpinder Kaur bagged the 1st position with 85% marks, Anshul Singal bagged the 2nd position and Jasmeet Kaur bagged the 6th position in Panjab University M.Ed. examination.

STUDENTS’ CENTRAL ASSOCIATION: The most progressive feature of the college is the active participation of students in the organization of the college activities. The Students’ Central Association with Meghna Vohra, Head Girl and Sheenum as the Hostel Head Girl has been efficiently functioning in the true spirit of democratic values.

LIBRARY AND BOOK BANK: It is a matter of immense satisfaction to mention that we have a well-equipped computerized library and up to date material on different areas concerning teacher education. At present the library has 23,090 books and around 350 new titles were added to the stock this year. We subscribe to 73 journals of educational and general interest. 15

4 students availed of the facility of Book Bank during the current year. 316 titles were received from Khalsa Dewan, Ludhiana and 43 from Panjab University Publication Bureau.

ACTIVITIES AND FUNCTIONS ORGANIZED DURING 2012-13:  Fresher’s day was organized to welcome the new batch of ‘would-be teachers’ on 1st September, 2012.

 Teacher’s day was celebrated by the teachers and students of the college on 5th September, 2012. Speeches, songs and skits were presented to mark this day.

 A book titled ‘Health & Physical Education’ by Dr. Sukhdev Singh was released on 5th September, 2012.

 World literacy day was celebrated on 8th September, 2012. Students were made aware about the importance of this day.

 Talent Hunt competition was organized on 7th and 8th September, 2012. 93 students participated in items like fine arts, literary, music, dance, craft, creative writing, debate and declamation, poetry recitation, mime and mimicry, giddha etc.

 ‘Hindi Divas’ was celebrated on 14th September, 2012. ‘Poetry recitation’ and Hindi pronunciation’ competitions were organized.

 International Peace rally was organized on 21st September, 2012 on the occasion of birthday of former Prime Minister of , Late Sh. Rajiv Gandhi.

 50 students participated in Annual Status of Education Report (ASER), 2012. The training programme was held on 11th October, 2012.The students were trained by master trainers from the Pratham Education Foundation and they visited 30 villages in order to collect data for the said survey.

 A one day trip was organized on 23rd October, 2012 to Rangla Punjab, Wonderland and Devi Talab Mandir, Jallandhar.

 Sri Ji’s Avtaar Purab was celebrated with great zeal and fervour on 18th January, 2013. The staff members and students whole- heartedly performed seva.

 An Intra-College On-the-spot ‘Preparation of Teaching Aid’ competition was held on 22nd January, 2013.  A Workshop on ‘E-Commerce’ was organized by the Commerce society on 30th January, 2013.

 A Workshop on ‘Right to Education’ was organized by ASER, New Delhi from 4th to 6th February, 2013. The participants were made aware about the RTE ACT.

 Annual Athletic meet was held on 20th February, 2013. Dr. Raj Kumar Sharma, Director Sports, Panjabi University, was the Chief Guest. Mandeep Kaur was adjudged the best athlete.

 An awareness camp was held on 1st March, 2013 on ‘Protection of women from sexual harassment and techniques of self defence’ by District Legal Services Authority, Ludhiana. Chief Judicial Magistrate, Sh. K.K. Singla was the Chief Guest. EDUCATION IN MORAL VALUES: Shabad recitation in the morning assembly is a special feature of our daily programme. A special ‘Divinity Assembly’ is held every Monday in which students conduct the whole programme. Religious discourses are held by both students and teachers. EXTENSION LECTURES, WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS:

6  Classroom teaching is supplemented by extension lectures and workshops organized in the field of education and relevant disciplines. Eminent scholars and specialists are invited to address the students and staff on different topics.  An Extension lecture on the topic, ‘How to make class room teaching effective’ was delivered on 17th September, 2012 by Dr. Shashi Trehan, former District Science Supervisor, Ludhiana.  An Extension lecture on the topic ‘How to write a synopsis’ was delivered to M.Ed. students on 21st September, 2012 by Dr. H.S .Bajwa.  An Extension lecture on the topic ‘Role of parents and professionals in education of children with special needs’ was delivered on 22nd September, 2012 by Dr. Mihir Mallick.  An Extension lecture on the topic ‘Knowledge’ was delivered to M.Ed. students on 22nd September, 2012 by Dr. K.S. Kahlon.  An Extension lecture on the topic ‘Psycho Neurobics for healthy and happy life’ was delivered on 8th February, 2013 by Dr. B.K. Chandra Shekhar.

 In the Inter University Youth Festival organized at Guru Nanak Dev University, from 7th to 11th November, 2012,Charanpreet won 3rd prize in ‘On the spot painting competition’.

 In the Inter–University Youth Festival organized by Panjab Sangeet Natak Academy held at Dashmesh Girls College of Education, Badal on 16th January, 2013 Charanpreet won 1st prize in ‘On the spot painting competition’.

 In Poster Making Competition held at Government College for Girls, Ludhiana on 25th January 2013, Rishi and Charanpreet won 1st prize and Consolation prizes respectively.

 In the Inter college Kho-Kho tournament (C-division) organized by Panjab University Chandigarh on 30th and 31st January, 2013, our college team won Gold Medal. Nitika Sharma was selected to attend the Inter University Camp.

9  Declamation contest was organized by Ludhiana Citizen Health Council at Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Gujjarkhan Campus on 8th - 9th February,2013 Daljit won cash prize of Rs.5100/-.

 In the Zonal Skill-in-Teaching and On- the-spot Preparation of Teaching Aid competitions held on 19th and 20th February, 2013, a number of students hogged the limelight. In Skill-in-Teaching Sarbjeet, Jaspreet, Nishi, Baljeet, Prerna Honda, Manpreet got the 1st prize; Jaspreet and Sahiba Gandhi got 2nd Prize. Preeti and Sumeet Jassar got 3rd prize. In On-the-spot Preparation of Teaching Aid Competition Amanpreet, Rishi, Raspreet and Parveen got 1st ; Anu punj, Amandeep, Jaswinder and Charanpreet got 2nd and Ravkiran and Shawinder got 3rd the Prize.

 Shabnam bagged 2nd prize in A.C. Bali Declamation contest in Hindi held at Panjab University, Chandigarh on 20th February 2013.

 Manu bagged 3rd prize in Krishan Kishore Grover contest held at Panjab University, Chandigarh on 20th February, 2013.

 In the Inter Zonal Skill-in-Teaching and On-the-spot Preparation of Teaching Aid Competitions held on 27th and 28th February, 2013, Prerna Handa, Sahiba Gandhi, Raspreet, Amandeep stood 1st; Jaspreet, Rishi and Charanpreet stood 2nd and Manpreet Kaur stood 3rd.

STUDENT SUPPORT, SCHOLARSHIPS AND STIPENDS:  This fund has been created to give financial assistance to economically weaker sections of students. During the year under report, a sum of Rs.1,85000/- was disbursed among 10 students.  The College is grateful to S. Daljinder Singh, Manager, for instituting a Gold Medal for the topper of M.Ed. in the respectful memory of his father S.Ramdayal Singh Ji who nurtured this college with a missionary zeal as long as he lived.  Khalsa Dewan has instituted a sum of Rs.31,000/- to be given to needy students.

10  For the last six years, the members of the family of S. Harnam Singh Ji, former Vice-President of the College Managing Committee, have sponsored medals to be awarded to the students bagging first ten positions in the B.Ed. final examination.  Dr. Surinder Kaur Randhawa has instituted two silver medals in the memory of her father Major Gurbachan Singh M.C. and her father-in-law S. Tara Singh, Former President, College Managing Committee EXTENSION ACTIVITIES:  Dr. Ravinder Kaur acted as a Resource Person in ‘World Sikh International Conference’ on ‘Quality in higher Education’ held on 16th December, 2012. ALUMNI MEET: Alumni association meeting was held in college on 14.3.2013 on the day of convocation MALWA COMMUNITY SKILL DEVELOPMENT SERVICES: The Malwa Community Skill Development with Dr. Ravinder Kaur as the Director and a professionally trained faculty provides diploma and certificate courses in Fashion Designing, Dress Designing, Textile Designing, Beauty Culture and Hair Care. It also offers short term certificate courses in a number of areas.
