The Hunter is home to some of the most remarkable and innovative organisations and leaders and it is this talent that has served our region well over the past 12 months despite challenging business conditions.

The staff and Board of the Chamber have worked exceptionally hard to foster this knowledge and creativity to create greater opportunity for growth and development of business in the Hunter.

Enjoying a strong relationship with the NSW Business Chamber, we have also continued to build on the ability to advocate for business through strength in numbers, ensuring a united approach to state-wide issues of significance.

There is no doubt that less than optimal market conditions have prevailed in the past year and with little control over some of the contributing external factors business has had to turn its sights to those areas where influence could be brought to bear.

The Chamber takes its role in this process very seriously and has been at the forefront of driving greater collaboration and thought leadership across a number of industries and issues. This has included areas such as infrastructure planning, urban revitalisation, regional planning, the defence industry and the Too Big To Ignore

The Hunter Business Chamber has much to be proud of over the last year and a great deal to look forward to for the next 12 months.

With the support of our members we have continued to grow and together have developed a long list of achievements that have brought benefit to both our business community and region as a whole.

Even in the face of significant economic challenges across most industries, member numbers reached more than 1200 at the end of the financial year, demonstrating a very strong belief in unity and the strength of numbers. This was increasingly evident as we launched the Local Chamber Alliance Program and joined with the national chamber movement to embark on the ‘Too Big To Ignore’ Campaign. This campaign created a platform and opportunity for small business to engage with government on key issues affecting its growth and sustainability.

The members of the Chamber elect a Board of Directors to set policy and direct the affairs of the organisation. The elected directors are able to appoint directors who in their opinion add particular knowledge, skills and experience in areas that are important to members.

The Hunter Business Chamber is the largest regional chamber in Australia and represents its most diverse regional economy.

Although it is not immune to the economic challenges that most industries have confronted over the past 12 months, the Hunter’s business community continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to creating opportunity for growth and sustainability.

The Hunter Business Chamber is proud to play an integral role in making this happen, providing a vast range of services for its members. Through strong collaboration, the Chamber is able to harness the expertise and knowledge of its members to provide a targeted, solutions-based approach to assisting the region’s business community.
