The University of Turbat (UoT) on 6th March, 2020 granted scholarships to more than 150 students under the Balochistan Education Endowment Fund (BEEF). Speaking on the occasion the chief guest of the event Provincial Finance Minister Mir Zahoor Ahmed said it was the priority of present government to award scholarships to the talented and deserving students under the BEEF and encourage them to acquire higher studies at different educational institutions including UoT. “Thousands of students in remote areas of Balochistan have benefited from the launch of the merit scholarships under BEEF, and special grant for universities has been raised from Rs.500m to 1500m. He said that the problems of the people of Balochistan are different from other provinces. Provision of facilities to the dispersed population and lack of higher education institutions in Balochistan are at the top among problems. Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary Finance Noorul Haq Baloch said: “I am glad to see that Turbat University is at the forefront among the universities recently established in Balochistan, because Turbat University had achieved same quantum of success in six years which other universities get in 25 years”.

Appreciating the efforts of Scholarships’ focal person Abdul Jabbar Baloch and his team, VC UoT Prof Dr Abdul Razzaq Sabir said that a number of achievements accomplished by the UoT in short time, was the result of the joint efforts of University administration, academic staff and public representatives of the area. He said that withthe support of Mir Zahoor Ahmed Buledi and provincial government, the university was on the path of further development. He hoped that with the establishment of university campuses in Gwadar and Panjgur, the people of entire Makran division and rest of the province would have better opportunities of acquiring quality education at their door steps. Meanwhile, the guest of honor of the event, the CEO BEEF Dr Rasheed Masood Jaffer said that the students and research scholars of the Turbat University deserved to be congratulated for being beneficiary of scholarships by the Balochistan government. He said “BEEF is an autonomous body and working to remove the educational backwardness of Balochistan. It is our duty to help the talented and needy students of Balochistan.” Highlighting university achievements in last seven years, the Registrar Ghulam Farooq Baloch requested government of Balochistan for granting some additional scholarships for the universities situated in backward and remote areas of Balochistan. University of Turbat’s 9th meeting of the syndicate was held on 20th February 2020 at university’s meeting room which was chaired by vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir. The meeting was also attended by the honorable members of syndicate including UoT’s Registrar Ghulam Farooq Baloch, dean faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch, dean faculty of Law Prof. Dr. Gul Hassan, dean faculty of Science and Engineering Dr. Haneef Ur Rahman, LUAWMS Associate Professor Dr. Manzoor Ahmed, Senior Advocate Mehrab Khan Gichki, UoT’s ۔Controller Examinations Tanveer Ahmed and Director Finance Shahbek Syed After recitation few verses from the Holy Quran, the UoT’s registrar presented the agenda of the meeting before the house for deliberation and decision. Speaking on this occasion vice chancellor said that due to conducting the meeting of statuary bodies well in time and functioning of statuary bodies in accordance with the university act, the UoT was being counted among the best emerging institutions of higher education in the country. Besides resolving various academic and administrative matters after healthy deliberation and discussion, the house also confirmed the minutes of 8th meeting of Syndicate, 10th meeting of academic council, 10th meeting of Finance and Planning Committee and 6th meeting of HRD Committee. The honorable members of the syndicate expressed their satisfaction that keeping university’s interest and stability on priority, the important academic and administrative matters of the institution are being resolved according to the decisions of the statuary bodies. At the end vice chancellor presented shields to the honorable members of the syndicate. Guest speakers from various fields meet VC UoT During meeting with UoT’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir on 30th and 31st January 2020, the experts and research scholars namely Dr. Mansoor Baloch and Dr. Sikandar Bezinjo acknowledged the joint efforts of the UoT’s administration, faculty members and students for maintaining infrastructural and academic excellence in the institution and sustaining favorable environment for the further growth of the university. UoT’s Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir informed them that his administration was working on a comprehensive plan to develop linkages with foreign and country’s best universities; and prominent research scholars for exchange of academic information and research materials. CDWP Approves the 2nd Phase of PC-1 University of Turbat The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) and Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan have approved Rs.1.5b for establishment of 2nd Phase of University of Turbat. The Approval was granted during a meeting of CDWP held on 5th June, 2020 at Islamabad. The CDWP meeting was chaired by Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan, Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir VC UoT, Ghulam Farooq Registrar UoT and Dr. Gul Hassan Director QEC UoT represented UoT in the meeting via video link. The Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir appreciated the untiring efforts of the teaching staff, administration, Project Director and representatives of the area for the approval of 2nd Phase of Establishment of University of Turbat by the CDWP and HEC. With reference to the decision of the UoT’s Senate and directives of Honorable Chancellor University of Turbat/ Governor Balochistan, Justice (R) Amanullah Khan Yasinzai, meeting of Search Committee for recommending the members for the 3rd Senate of University of Turbat was held on 23rd April 2020 in the meeting room at Main campus Turbat. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir, Vice Chancellor University of Turbat. The meeting was also attended by Prof. Ghulam Rasool Khalid, Prof Bashir Ahmed, Ghulam Farooq Registrar University of Turbat, Dr. Waseem Barkat Chairman Management Science Department, Ms. Zohra Baloch Principal Girls College Turbat and Mr. Asif. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between University of Turbat (UoT) and Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF). Vice Chancellor of University of Turbat Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir and PPAF Head of Programs Simi Kamal signed the agreement at ceremony held in UoT’s meeting room on 21st February, 2020. The ceremony was also attended by Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences dean Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch, Dean Faculty of Law Prof. Dr. Gul Hassan, Dean Faculty of Science and Engineering Dr. Haneef Ur Rahman, Director linkages Ijaz Ahmed, Assistant Manager PPR Unit (PPAF) Saadia Tariq, CEO UDAAN Giranaz Baloch, PSO to VC Bilal Ur Rahman and Protocol Officer Meer Bahad Baloch. Under the agreement, the both parties will collaborate todevelop research projects and conferences on water management and poverty alleviation for bringing social and economic prosperity in Balochistan. Under the agreement the internship opportunities for the students of Turbat University will also be provided in PPAF office. Earlier, during a meeting with Simi Kamal Dr. Sabir said that his institution was working on a comprehensive plan for expanding collaboration agreements with different national and international universities and institutions. The University of Turbat (UoT) on 5th February 2020 organized seminar and walk to express solidarity and sympathies with Kashmiri people on the occasion of Kashmir Day which were attended by UoT’s vice chancellor Prof Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir, dean faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and director IBLC Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor, Registrar Ghulam Farooq, Chairperson Political Science department Jamil Ahmed, PSO to vice chancellor Bilal Ur Rahman, Deputy Registrar Ganguzar Baloch, Assistant Registrar Ghous Bakhsh, Protocol Officer Meer Bahad Baloch, faculty members, administrative staff and students at large number. The program was started with the national anthem of Pakistan and Kashmir. Speaking in the seminar, UoT’s vice chancellor Prof Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir said “The people of Kashmir are part of us, being Pakistani and Muslim we always stand with the people of Kashmir at every forum and it is the responsibility of whole Muslim Umma and International Community to stand for the cause of Kashmiri people and raise their voice against Indian brutality and atrocity in the held valley.” UoT’s students Fahad Nasir, Sameer Basheer, Hani Younus, Muskan Ghulam Rasool and Fatima Gafoor also spoke on the occasion. They condemned the violation of the United Nations Resolution by India on Kashmir issue saying that the brutal India occupied Kashmir soil by force, curbed fundamental rights of Kashmiri people, and India is using lethal chemical gases and weapons on innocent Kashmiri people. They demanded to international community for taking practical steps to compel India to step-down from Kashmiri soil. Walk was also staged in UoT’s main campus and Gwadar Campus to mark Kashmir Day and register their resentment against atrocities of Indian forces in the Indian-occupied Kashmir. The participants of walk were carrying national flags of Pakistan and Kashmir. They were also holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans against Indian army’s tyrannical action on Kashmiri people. Opportunities and Challenges assessed for online classes amid COVID-19 The Vice Chancellor (VC) University of Turbat (UoT) Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir said that Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a new strain of Coronavirus that had previously not been identified in humans and the spread of Coronavirus had badly affected academic activities in the educational institutions in Pakistan and across the world. University of Turbat will take every steps possible to save the academic year of the students. He shared these views on 6th April 2020 at UoT’s meeting room while presiding over a meeting to assess the Opportunities and Challenges faced by UoT’s students and faculty for commencement of online classes. It was proposed in the meeting that the remaining courses may be completed by adopting Distance learning Model or E-Learning Model or LMS in coordination with IBA Sukkar or HEC. After installation of required system/equipment by UoT, the LMS will be installed on UoT’s website for uploading teaching materials. The students will be able to either access the study materials directly or access the recorded and stored materials later on. University of Turbat’s dean faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and director Institute of and Culture (IBLC) Prof Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch said that besides introducing modern Balochi poetry, free poem, metaphors and new poetic techniques in Balochi language and literature, the legendary poet Atta Shad also gave Baloch literature a new identity with his distinguished poetry. He expressed these views on the occasion of 27th death anniversary of the legendary poet Atta Shad, organized by (IBLC) on 14th February 2020. He remarked that an important aspect of Atta Shad’s poetical creation is that his literary works were the true reflection of Balochi culture and landscape of Balochistan and Balochi language and literature gained a new dimension due to Atta Shad’s social philosophy, artistic approach and creativity. While addressing on the occasion other speakers said that Atta Shad represented various aspects of Balochi language and culture and brought changes in Baloch society. Assistant Professor Sadiq Saba, student Abbas Hassan and Shabir Sharif also presented research articles on Atta Shad’s arts and poetry while the young singer of Balochi language Asumi Baloch, Nawab Baloch, Sajid Qadir and Rabia Baloch received tremendous round of applauses from the audience for presenting Atta Shad’s Balochi song with rhythm. University of Turbat’s (UoT) Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir said that university administration was doing everything possible to give its faculty members the utmost opportunities for pursuing higher and advanced studies in the country and abroad for improving the quality of teaching and research in UoT upon their return, that’s why the faculty members were being awarded scholarships for doing M.phil/MS and Ph.D. in overseas and country’s best institutions of higher education. While presiding over a meeting on 29th January 2020, in connection with the start of new academic year at the university he appreciated the efforts of university’s Registrar and faculty members on the use of computerized system for fee collection and admission during the current academic year. Preparations underway to start online classes in Turbat University The Vice Chancellor University of Turbat Prof .Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir on 20th May 2020 chaired an important meeting at video conference room. Besides launching online classes, the matters related to installation of learning management system, conducting examinations and other educational issues were discussed in the meeting in view of pandemic coronavirus and lockdown across the country. The meeting was also attended by UoT’s Registrar Ghulam Farooq Baloch, Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Science Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch, Dean Faculty of Legal Education Prof. Dr. Gul Hassan, Dean Faculty of Science and Engineering Dr. Hanif Ur Rahman, Controller of Examinations Tanveer Ahmed, Director UoT Gwadar Campus Ijaz Ahmed, Heads of the departments, Deputy Registrar Ganguzar Baloch, PSO to VC Bilal Ur Rahman, and other officers from relevant sections. Social distancing and other preventive measures against Coronavirus were also observed during meeting. The VC briefed the meeting on decisions and guidelines made in the meetings regarding online classes and examinations, held between Chairman Higher Education Commission and Vice Chancellors. The meeting discussed the situation posed by the global pandemic, provision of internet facility, making it possible for students to access all the lectures and related materials provided, and the difficulties faced by the students. The Vice Chancellor directed the concerned officers of the Department of Computer Science and the Directorate of Information Technology to complete all the arrangements for the commencement of E learning and online classes as soon as possible. Education experts stressed the need for utilizing young generation’s potentials for the socio- economic development of the country. Panelists from diverse background stated this during lecture programs held in University of Turbat (UoT) on alternate days. The programs, part of lecture series, were organized by UoT’s Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC). “Opportunities exist all around the world. But the only thing needed is that we should have the strong will to move forward for exploring and capitalizing on these opportunities,” said Wells Fargo & Company Senior Engagement Manager Dr. Mansoor Baloch during a lecture session on “ Human Capacity Development and Role of United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals in Developing countries” held on 30th January 2020 in UoT. Dr Mansoor Baloch a research scholar from District Kech had done his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Istanbul Technical University Turkey, now associated with Wells Fargo & Company in the United States as a Senior Engagement Manager. He is also the founder of ENCLUDE Network, a Startup not-for-profit firm. During another lecture program on 31st January 2020, an economist and motivational speaker from Karachi Schools of Business and Leadership Dr. Sikandar Bezinjo shared his views on “Role of Youth in Socio-economic Development of Pakistan”. Faculty members and students from different departments also attended the sessions. The ORIC office also organized a session on 3rd March 2020, the speaker of the session was Mr. Abdi Khan, an officer in UoT’s Finance Section. He has given a presentation on “Sustainability of Higher Education Institutions: A case study of Pakistan and the model was Turbat University” Mr. Abdi Khan shared his experience in working with different sectors. The session was attended by the academicians and Administrative staff. In the closing remarks, Dr. Haneef Ur Rehman, Director ORIC appreciated Mr. Abdi Khan for his presentation and work and he also thanked the participants for their presence. On the occasion, ORIC’s Director Dr. Haneef Ur Rahman said that the nationally and internationally renowned scholars were being invited in UoT to interact with university’s faculty and students. He said that efforts were underway for encompassing all the research activities from development of research proposal to the commercialization of research products under the ORIC. Students of Education Department Organized Welcome Program

The senior students of Department of Education organized a program on 11th February 2020 in the university’s Multipurpose Hall to welcome the fresh students of their department in the university. The event was attended by the Chairperson of the department Manzoor Ahmed, Deputy Registrar Ghous Bakhsh, faculty members and students of the department. Congratulating the organizers and performers of the event, Chairperson of the department Manzoor Ahmed said that organizing such events in the university was very imperative for the guidance of fresh students and providing them an opportunity for adjusting them in a new institution. The week-long Sport festival 2020 of University of Turbat started on 17th February 2020. The Sport festival was inaugurated by Dean Faculty of Social Science and Director of IBLC Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch. The sport week includes several games such as, football, cricket, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, Race, relay race, shot out throw, choki, long jump, Nau Gadadi, ludo, Carom Board, Musical Chair, Tug of War, Lemmon Spoon, Sack Race, Darts and Chess for boys. Further it had the several games for female students also such as: badminton, table tennis, ludo, Cricket, Chess, Word Scrabble, Musical Chair, Skipping and Dart for female students. The students of various departments of University of Turbat took part in different games according to their choice and capacity. Addressing at the occasion Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch said that sport is among the important activities of higher education, and Turbat University organizes Sport festival every year which gives the students a platform to display their talent. The sport in charge Mohammed Essa along with Assistant Professors, lecturers and students attended the inauguration ceremony of sport week. Teacher student and staff teams participated in various sports competitions for seven days. On this occasion VC UoT Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir said that , “It is pleased to note that like other parts of the country, besides quality academic activities, sports and other healthy cultural activities are being organized in Turbat University. This will help the students to disclose their hidden talent. In closing I was happy to see the students ۔remarks VC said that our students are talented and committed interest and excitement in sports and other recreational activities.” The Annual Sport Festival continued from 17 to 21 February 2020.

The Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court (BHC) Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail laid down the foundation stone of the Law College building at the premises of UoT’s Public Library on 8th January 2020. Senior Judges of Balochistan High Court Justice Muhammad Hashim Kakar, Justice Nazeer Ahmed Langov, Justice Rozi Khan Bareech, Justice Abdul Hameed Baloch, Inspection Judge Abdul Qayyum Lehri, Finance Minister Zahoor Ahmed Buledi, MPA Syed Ehsan Shah, MPA Lala Rasheed, UoT’s Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir, Dean Faculty of Law Prof Dr.Gul Hasan, Registrar Ghulam Farooq, Controller Examinations Tanvir Ahmed, Registrar BHC Rashid Mehmood, Deputy Commissioner Kech Zeshan Sikander, DPO Mir Hussain Lehri, Deputy Registrar Ganguzar Baloch, ADC Turbat Siraj Ahmed, Dr. Taj Baloch, UoT’s Procurement Officer Ayaz Baloch, Protocol Officer Meer Bahad Baloch, Assistant Registrar Ghous Bakhsh, UoT’s faculty members and other high officials were also present on the occasion. Giving briefing on the project to the Chief Justice, the Executive Engineer C&W (Building) Kech Abdul Qayyum Baloch said that the project comprising on 8 classrooms, multipurpose hall, library, principal office, staff room, common room and other components which will be completed within two years at the cost of 100 million. Pre-budget session held in Turbat University

A pre-budget session was organized by the provincial government at University of Turbat (UoT) on 6th March, 2020. Provincial Finance Minister Mir Zahoor Ahmed Buledi presided over the session. The pre-budget session was also attended by UoT’s Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir, Finance Secretary Noor Ul Haq Baloch, MPA Lala Rasheed, Secretary Industries Hafiz Abdul Majid, UoT’s Registrar Ghulam Farooq Baloch, Commissioner Makran Division Tariq Qamar Baloch, Deputy Commissioner Kech Major (R) Ilyas Kabzai, Director Gwadar Campus Ijaz Ahmed, university administration, faculty members, economists, civil society representatives, educationist, Journalists and UoT students at large number. Mir Zahoor Ahmed Buledi said that his government has allocated a significant amount in the provincial budget for education and health as well as social sector development so that the economic condition of the people of Balochistan can be improved. Speaking on the occasion Noor Ul Haq Baloch said that the budget plays a very important role in the development of the province and prosperity of the people. Hafiz Abdul Majid said that we can achieve our goals by increasing our economic growth, and by establishing industrial zones in Hub and Bostan the economic activities will be increased.
