4. Voice from Participants (Selection) ◆High School Student, Indonesia I already got so many new knowledge from the lecture such as Japanese Government, Japan’s peace keeping, how the atomic bomb was dropped in Hiroshima from the local teller, it’s really affected to open my mind about how important peace really is. I really fall in Love with Japanese people. My new friends in Kaita school successfully showed their kindness and warm welcome. They tried to help me understand about the daily activity in school and the Japanese lesson. I do not know how to say how proud and grateful I am to be the part of JENESYS 2016. I appreciate how Japan really wants to keep the peace with the other countries with peace, life will get better and people can stay alive peacefully. Again and again, I’m so grateful because I could feel and do how Japanese people spend their daily life. My host family lives in village, there was no WI-HI, so I can spend my time without caring about my real life for 2 days. I really enjoying my home-staying.

◆High School Student, Thailand From this program, I am totally impressed by the happy stay in Japan. I have received a lot from this JENESYS. First, by lecture, I have learned the formal and basic information about Japan, Japanese, the age of Edo Era, the royal family, the system of Emperor and Samurai, which I am really interested studying. Also, I have got the data about Nagasaki and its history. In the school exchange, I have exchanged the data, culture and have learned the Japanese people and feel they are so kind and lovely. In the government office of Isahaya City, I need to thank them so much for this wonderful program. They have managed everything brilliantly and see the importance of the culture exchange education. It is not just for learning about Japan, but also connects good relationship among the people abroad. Lastly in the homestay program, I really feel impressed a lot by staying in a Japanese family. They have taught the Japanese culture and have taken care of us so well. I can feel their love and kindness to us and I cannot describe how nice and lovely they are!

◆Student, Singapore Coming to Japan has shown and taught me a lot of things. How technology and tradition come together and how people treat each other. The lecture in Nagasaki about how the Atomic Bomb affected people showed me how devastating the wars are. Coming to the school, we made new friends and exchanged face book friends together. The weather does get very chilly at times but the views are fantastic. The amount of photos taken here are breathtaking. The homestay showed us the way of living and we love it. The food was amazing and the care given by the host family was amazing too. We were sad when we found out time flew by so fast. It feels as though now Japan has become a part of our lives. The family we stayed with was like our own family. The people that we met became like our brothers and sisters. This trip to Japan has influence me to be a better person back home in Singapore. If the chance would be given again, I would want to visit Japan again and stay even longer to appreciate the culture and natural beauties of this lovely country.

◆Student, Brunei My most significant impression of this program is the home stay. Homestay family showed normal Japanese life and they showed discipline and had high respect to others. .In Aoi Tori nursery, I was shocked to know that a 3 month child was attending the nursery. The children were leaning how to dance, eat and how to separate trash that surprised me really. They were taught to appreciate anything since small age, and I think this leads to good students. I am very sad and I give all my condolences to atomic bomb survivors and victims. They have suffered for a long time. The visit to the Nagasaki peace park is very meaningful to me and all members. The visit to the Saga University is important. This shows how Japanese people socialize and study. Some students don’t understand English enough but they tried their best. I was 6 surprised to learn the Japanese education system in which education is very important and everyone has a chance to study anything. Lastly Japanese culture is full of discipline and their attitude to others is very good.

5. Voice from Japanese Participants Student We had never had such a large number of people visiting to our school from overseas, and it was also my first time to have one-to-one communication with people from foreign countries, so it was a great experience for me. I was excited that I could communicate with them using English I had learned in school, although we usually use different languages. I found many cultural differences even in small things, and it was enjoyable to understand the differences. As nowadays we can connect to the world by Twitter and other services, I hope I can keep in touch with them, though we live in different places.

◆ An accepting local host family We had accepted people under the JENESYS program several times before, but this was our first time to accept high school students. I think it was good for the young students to do the homestay in groups of several students, because I think it reduced their anxiety. I was worried they might get homesick, but was relieved that they were all right. I’m grateful to the female staff members who kindly supported us when we first met with the students. The staff were attentive to everything and eliminated our anxiety. The three days and two nights of homestay passed by like a flash, but I’m glad I made wonderful memories. We wish we had one more day to take them to Miyajima.
