Brief Industrial Profile of

1. General Characteristics of the District Singrauli District is a reflection of proud history of the state of Madhaya Pradesh. it makes the North-eastern boundary of the state. Singrauli district is a repository of natural. historical and cultural history. This district is Known for luxuriant natural resources. On one side the spectrum of its floristic socio-cultural diversity and ethnic history of tribal, the district has a panoramic view with flowers of flame of forest and intoxicated by the sweet smell of mahua flowers. Singrauli is one of the districts of Baghelkhand region and one of the remotest districts in the state of . The troika of township, comprising of -Vindhya Nagar -Singrauli in the district is the power hub of . is known for the six major thermal power plants located in Singrauli and in its neighborhood along with the second largest series of eleven active coal mine groups in Asia. Singrauli is also marked by the largest water reservoir in Rihand. 1.1 Location & Geographical Area. The district Singrauli is located in the northeastern part of Madhya Pradesh. It is approximately at a distance 742Km from the capital of MP and 200 km from circle head office, . It takes about twenty one hours from Bhopal to reach the district head quarter and the commonly adopted mode of transport is to travel by train from Bhopal to Rewa and then by bus from Rewa to Singrauli through a range of hills, called Kaimour hills, with an average height of 800 – 900 feet above sea level. 1. Height from Sea Leavel : 609 Meter 1.2 Topography Singrauli district is located on the Northeastern Boundary of the state between 23.49 and 24.42 Degree North Latitude and 81.18 and 82.48 Degree East longitude. The district is also known as the northeastern frontier of the state. The district is spread across a total geographical area of 5572 sq. Km.. The highest topographic elevation in the district is 609 m. above sea level in Chitrangi. The traverses the district flowing from west to east. Our watershed area lies in between these two boundaries of Kaimour hills and Son River. 1.3 Availability of Minerals The district is has at least types of ores and composite mineral deposits. Earth or bharat, Sand, Stone, Gitti, Murum is an important minor minerals extracted in the district. Coal occur in many locations across the district. Sporadic and some concentrated occurrence of granite veins were reported from the district. Similarly some low-grade copper and coal deposits were also recorded in various parts of . 1.4 FOREST Forest areas cover the land in the district. The total area or about 11841 Hactare has dense canopied forest. Of the three blocks of district, , Chitrangi, Waidhan have significant forest cover. The forests are also source for like Sagaun, Mahua, Chironji,

4 Tendu etc., which are an important source of livelihood for population residing in the close vicinity of the forests.
